Spring depth chart question

Submitted by Todd Plate's n… on
I see the folks at Rivals, specifically Michael Spath, have a projected Spring depth chart up...but alas, paid content. Knowing full well that poaching paid content is a no-no, I was wondering if anyone with a premium membership may give us some insight as to what he has the 2-deep at the tackle spots looking like. Non-willingness to do so is completely understood.

Smitty D gave you what Rivals said. Personally, I don't think Dorrestein will ever play left tackle. He's too stiff, and I wouldn't want him protecting Forcier's blind side. I could see moving Omameh to LT before putting Dorrestein there. My projection: LT - Omameh LG - Schilling C - Molk RG - Huyge RT - Dorrestein

I don't post much& have meager points. I heard from a reliable source(relative of player) that RR apologized to the o line after the season for making them drop too much weight compared to the old regime. He told them he wanted them to put on more weight& that small, strong,& quick works in the Big least but not in the Big 10. He doesn't want them borderline obese, but that they needed more of their bulk back. More of a happy medium. I thought it was good info& worth mentioning.

So it took Rich Rod 2 years to figure out that we need to rebuild our numbers on the defense, and now he just figured out that our way too small OL were getting destroyed by Big 10 DLs? Did Rich Rod even do any research before taking this job? Stories like schone32's makes me wonder sometimes if Rich Rod isn't cut out for this job.

This is exactly like his recent quote (sorry, couldn't find the link) where he says (in paraphrasing) "Well, we're thin at DB so we're going to recruit heavily there now". It's his job to foresee issues like this coming up but instead it takes a season of us getting hammered defensively before he realizes it. I'm still hoping he can get the job done, but come on...

Rich did say something about size, and needing some big guys late in the season (after the Illinois goal line stand or after the Wisconsin game, can't remember which). My view is he needs at least one big back as well (and should have used Kevin Grady in that goal line stand with Moundros at fullback). IMO he threw out the baby with the bathwater by firing everyone when he came in, so now he's learning the hard way that he needs to modify his way to be successful (this is where Urban Meyer is a better coach). Like I've been saying all along, we'll wind up on the modified "Barwiscize with a pizza a night plan" for linemen. Anyway, patience you all. We'll all have to wait through a re-learning process, as they have lost lessons learned over the Bo, Mo, Lloyd era. That said Bo, Mo and Lloyd didn't really adapt well to change outside the Big Ten. But the lessons of the past do matter (no matter what the monkey says), and our Florida win showed us somewhere in the middle is where the real path to success lies.

I tend to agree with you on this one, I just think Dorrestein is way too stiff to play LT for any great amount of time. Just havent been impressed with his play so far. Here's to hoping he takes some big steps forward before next year. But yes his best position will probably end up being RT.

Barnum is likely going to play guard and only guard. He's played some tackle in practice - just as all offensive linemen on the team learn a neighboring position - but he's a guard.

Magnus, any chance Ferrara moves back to the D-line? He's pretty much out of luck as far as cracking the O-line at this point and they're pretty shallow at NT/DT. He's certainly got the size and seems to know how to play any position they ask him to. Also, related to position changes, I noticed the Rival's depth chart had James Rogers back with the wideouts...

Nah, I think Ferrara's going to be a depth player on the offensive line this year. I think it would be unfair to move him for his final year of eligibility. They should just give him a shot to earn PT on offense. At this point, he probably wouldn't do much good on defense, anyway.

in hoping that Taylor Lewan is our starting LT on offense in 2010? I was really hoping for the following line up for 2010: LT Lewan LG Schilling C Molk RG Barnum (or Washington) RT Omameh

Does anyone know where LaLota will fit into the depth chart for 2010? Has there been any information regarding his progress since his enrollment last year?
