Spirited effort by Ohio today

Submitted by GRBluefan on
Overjoyed that we won. Last w was during my bachelor party in Vegas (cool story, bro), and now I'm married with (almost) two kids.

Seems worth noting the effort and level of play from Ohio today. That is what I always hoped we would look like the last three years. Overmatched but ready to compete. Makes the W even sweeter,

I hope we cam teach those guys down south a thing or two about being classy in victory.

... but I think our mistakes (2 turnovers, if you include the botched punt) and Miller's inconsistency on the deep ball missing wide open guys leveled each other out.  And other than the horse shit on the goal line at the last minute, the game was evenly contested.

They looked good. Frankly, their offense looked like they had our number. At times, it seemed like Mattison relied on Miller not being able to make deep throws, and it almost bit him in the ass a few times. Thankfully, it didn't, and we came away with it.

Good game from the Buckeyes. Hail to the Victors.

Totally agree.  That was our worst defensive performance of the year I think.  But then again, maybe Mattison's game plan was let them chuck it even though they may bet some big plays because they won't convert more often than not.  But somehow I doubt this.  Miller just looked good.  I hope our D is up the challange in the coming years.

Excellent game, great effort by tOSU. Those kids have had a rough year.  Hats off to them.

But, tOSU fans on the other hand may be out for Fickell's head.  Perusing Bucknuts, etc. they are PISSED at him for spiking on 3rd and 6.  Hide yourself coach.  Get some bodyguards.

Yeah, I never did buy that Ohio was just going to roll over and die.  They played by far their best game of the year today, and with the field position we gave them on some of their drives, we had to play well to win.  I got a good laugh at one of the Ohio boards complaining about the officiating.  Man, I'm glad we prevailed, because that overturned TD with 2 minutes to play really sucked.  I still don't see how the play on the field gets overturned on that one.  If anyone had a reason to bitch about officiating, it was Michigan.

Let's enjoy the win, and then let's hope that we can find a way to deal with this guy next year. He missed a bunch of wide open guys, but his ability to create is scary. Hopefully, he will be looking at a bowl ban when the NCAA finally rules.

How in the hell does tOSU only score seven points against MSMoo when at home, and runs up 34 when playing in AA?  I know MooU has a good defense, but this seems like a disconnect.

I'm sorry, but I respectfully disagree.  OSU was supposed to be good run defense and they got shredded.  OSU was supposed to be a bad passing offense, and they were.

What made Nebraska a blowout in what should've been more evenly contested were a bunch of freak plays -- namely, costly penalties and fumbles.

This game was close for the exact same reason.  Freak plays, namely costly penalties and fumbles.  Except this time it was Michigan that was snakebit, turning a blowout into a very close game.

This was a game where everything that could've possibly gone wrong for Michigan, did.  And Michigan won anyway.  But if not for the dumb penalties and fumbles, this wouldn't have been close.

I mean, I can be gracious but OSU had nothing to do with yakety punt or replay.  Certainly can't say luck was on our side either.

If anything, though, that's kind of refreshing.  There's absolutely no way to sell this victory as lucky or controversial.  The seniors faced the toughest test of their lives and overcame everything.  Fitting, really.  I can think of so many "AARGH" moments where last year's team would've just rolled over.

They always save their best performances for us.  For most of the game, Miller was giving me nightmares of the Tressel-era QB Oh Noes against us.  Fortunately our offense (Borges plus ALL the points) was able to keep pace and our defense held serve when it absolutely had to (Mattison plus ALL the points, just fix your deep ball coverage).

Gibbons>Hagerup (!), but special teams didn't lose us the game (and nearly got the fumble recovery on the early kickoff).

Officials minus ALL the points.  Tressel was clearly flown up from Indy to be in the replay booth today.

Toussaint + Denard=ALL THE YARDS.  First pair of 1,000 yard rushers since Gordon Bell and Rob Lytle in the mid-70s.

RVB+MARTIN+BLACK SMASH.

Seniors.  Thank you for representing the Classes of '07 and '08 one last time so beautifully.

By getting back Posey et al., by having Miller with several more games worth of experience, by the kind of game plan coaches can come up with when they literally have nothing to lose, and by the gods of Michigan-Ohio State, where the floundering underdog often rises up.

All week I felt Miller's explosion coming and I hoped I was wrong. Just barely… A fantastic game! But it will be a while before visions of wide open Suckeyes stop prancing through my mental secondary.

I am relishing every moment of this victory right now, and I love that we have a fan base that takes a moment to acknowledge the effort of Ohio today. Even if many of their fans have the manners and intellect of feral hogs, their team gave a good effort. We held them up with some mistakes but they made us pay for those mistakes. Thank Hoke, we were a better team, so we could overcome some poor plays and horrific calls! This Christmas just got a whole lot jollier!! Go Blue!

They have talented players.  Had TP and Tressel been on the field, they might have won.

BUT THEY GOT BOOTED FOR CHEATING!!!

Great, hard fought win but we still have huge issues in the secondary. With Urban Cryer going to Ohio we need to be ready to step up our game. I live in Florida and watched him tear up the SEC. We need to be very aware. I think the current players and a great incoming recruiting class (along with a Manball coach and his witch of a D coordinator) will get this rivalry back to where it should be.

And he seems like a good kid.  Ohio's O-Line played very well.  We had problems getting to the QB and defending the edge.  As much as I wanted to be a classy winning fan, 7 years of living in Cleveland and putting up with Ohio nonsense made me say some things to Ohio fans fleeing the stadium that I'm not proud of...

I am worried about us playing Houston in the Sugar Bowl if predictions are accurate. Earlier in the week i was all for it, but after watching our pass defense I am concerned. I know they are two different QB's, but Keenum doesn't overthrow like Miller did. Also, maybe we can pin our ears back and blitz a bit more as Keenum isn't as eager to run like Miller.

Thoughts on playing Houston passing attack?

If the officials call holding when the offensive line holds, we should be able to hurry and sack Keenum enough to put him off his game.  Also, we should be able to hang 50-60 points on them.  But I would be a bit leery with some of the youth and weaknesses in our defensive backfield.  I still remember the Michigan BYU bowl game, too.  Bo was livid afterwards because the BYU offense was holding but not getting called.  Of course that wasn't one of the better Michigan teams, either.  We were middle of the pack in the Big Ten and had five or six losses overall.  What's funny is that was BYU's only signature win of the year, and it was enough to propel them to the top of the polls.  BYU squeaked by the 4th or 5th place Big Ten team and were crowned national champs that year.
