Speaking of Presidential Trivia

Submitted by Wolfman on

Although I realize the author of the other piece on this topic was just having fun, I don't know why he didn't just leave Ford at center, where he actually played well enough to receive offers from both the Lions and the Pack.

And to leave the Gipper off completely was an egregious error.

Now for the trivia: Can you name the only man to ever be a king, congressman and then president?

Don't anticipate this one staying unanswered for too long, given the overall intelligence of the audience.

If you're talking about the EDSBS piece, he didn't leave the Gipper off. Reagan was drafted 6th overall:

"6. Ronald Reagan, Quarterback. Charismatic and well-liked by draft analysts, but lacking an impressive stat line. Like the best quarterbacks, seemingly has no memory. Great in rivalry games. Think Brett Favre."

The only one he left off was Benjamin Harrison, because he was a regent or something at Purdue, and Orson has something against Purdue (no idea why).

As to your question, I think I've heard it before, but I don't know it.

Uhh, is it in the United States, or, just, generally, "any man?" Because I imagine there is some dictator somewhere in history who has held titles of king, congressman, and president, possibly all at the same time.

EDIT- Interesting; didn't know Gerald Ford was born with the last name King. I still wouldn't be shocked if some dictator was once a member of a legislative body, effected a coup to become president, and then  while president/dictator, declared himself king.

There have been several former Kings (in Europe) that have gone one to represent in various parliments/congress of thier countries after they have vacated the throne. Not all Kings are deposed French style.

Once the Tsar of Bulgaria he was also elected to the position of Prime Minister of Bulgaria.

But he didn't play football for Michigan.

I might be the only one who thinks this, but somehow it would be far less memorable if a history book read "President Leslie King - 1974-1977".  It would make kids in the future wonder about the 70s just that much more.
