EDIT: Here is a link to an online column by Grinczel from the site: http://www.msuspartans.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/091311aac.html.

Love this line:

"Unveiled Tuesday morning by Nike, the uniforms are stylishly understated compared to many contemporary alternative uniforms seen these days throughout sports, though beyond hip for today's techno-savvy college football player."

"If an iPad were a football uniform, it would look like this."

Stupid, stupid, stupid.

I remember a few years back MSU bball changed its uniforms to silver, and everyone hated it.  One of those games was against Duke at home, and they proceeded to stomp us in our fancyboy silver uniforms.  What's wrong with keeping your school colors?

And what's with the gloves?  I fear that ridiculous trend may be catching on so that players can gesture towards the crowd/cameras like idiots.  Goddammit corporate 'murica.  rant over

From the article linked above:

In the '30s, Michigan State College teams wore black and gold and sported winged helmets even before that certain team down the road did. After MSU lost the '47 opener to Michigan while wearing white helmets with green wings, the look most closely associated with the Spartans - especially those great teams of the '50s and `60s - was adopted.

So I guess gold was part of the MSU color palette at one time or the other. How old is their fight song, though?

I think Hoke has changed the tide on the rivalry. Hell people in Ohio are starting to believe him. Never in a million years I would have thought that. Selling Michigan jerseys is a good start.

The same school whose fans scream that their team is now more relevant than Michigan disproves the point made by their fans and coach by elevating the Michigan game to special uniform status.  If that's the true color, they are even changing their color for the game.

It seems like everybody wants to trot out a special uniform for Michigan.  Bring it on, Sparty.

Stop downvoting this man!  He pointed out MSU's flawed logic, claimed that he felt it was a stretch of the imagination, & then distanced himself from any personal relationship he might have with their fan-base.  I think he's in the clear!

... That being said, if you do turn out to be sympathetic to any spartan cause, I will downvote myself a thousand times for defending you.  Don't let me down. :P

I appreciate your defense and assure you that I will not let you down.  However, I feel that I may have deserved the MGoPunishment of the downvotes from my MGoBrethren due to the fact that left open the slight possibility of a sparty relationship, and for this, I humbly apologize

I think what really bugs me with this whole trend is that now there will be no photos from big games with teams in their classic unis - the history books are going to look like a freak show. Tradition is dead. Dolla Billz uber alles.
