Sparty on the pay to play train?
Didn't catch it when I searched quickly. I had it taken down but after someone posted some decent content, I'm just gonna leave it. Sorry since already posted. Ignore if you have to.
Hey, I don't really care. I'm not one to go nuts on people who haven't seen something posted and start negging or anything. Just a gentile push towards the search feature.
Since we're being reasonable people I'll add my two cents and say that it could be very funny news if OSU could get caught after Tresselgate is done with, repeat violators and all.
RR has said the hammer is going to drop on two more schools this summer, I'd bet a lot that Auburn is one of them, though I doubt I could get good odds.
I appreciate it. Point well taken.
justingoblue after Health Care Finance and Policy and after the girlfriend leaves for South Dakota:
seriously, though, have you even commented on a post that is not on the front page? what is the point? even if this was already posted, i would guess that there are 1000 people a day who don't look to see what was said yesterday who might want to comment.
slippery slope, don't want to encourage unnecessary postings or sililness. i think this problem also takes care of itself when there is actually something happening - in 6 months :(
Yea that sucks. Honestly some things deserved to be tossed around a few times. I'd just say, hey this discussion was good yesterday who else wants to chime in, or what's changed or something.
I hate not being around for the good part of an MGoComment session.
I, too, like to give non-Jewish pushes towards the search feature.
I was turning over some clever stuff about the "gentile push", but see you beat me by hours.
Back to my nap, I guess.
I can't believe how much momentum this train has taken on.
As something of a purist, I really do hope that the NCAA grows a set and really starts to crack down on this. They should throw some serious resources at this issue and try to clean it up.
I recognize that this is counter to the NCAA's interests - they don't particularly care what goes on behind the scenes, so long as it props up cash cow programs and generates $$. But, I hope that we get a response akin to the MLB's more recent handling of steroid use: they knew it went on - in fact the increased home runs provided big $$ for MLB - but once the story took on a life of its own in the media, MLB was forced to crack down and actually try to police it.
I am of the belief that Michigan - under LC, RR and now Hoke - really does play by the rules in terms of recruiting. As an institution, we learned some hard lessons with the BB violations, and I believe that we play it straight. It kills me that some of the teams that have really dominated during the past decade - a decade in which we have been largely surpassed as a perennial power by others - have probably done so by obtaining unfair advantages in terms of recruiting.
I think it's safe to assume that we play it straight. If we have been on the pay to play train, we haven't been getting a very good ROI.
You mean other than being the winningnest program of all time?
BTW, Sparty wasn't exactly tearing it up on the gridiron under Bobby Williams.
No, I was referring more to our 42-33 record since 2005, which is tied with MSU for 49th best during that period.
Your point about Bobby Williams is well taken, however.
I think most programs play by the rules with recruiting, but boosters are something completely different. I don't think athletic departments have any control over rogue boosters, no matter how hard they try.
If Sparty boosters are handing out money to recruits, you can be sure that many, many other programs are doing the same.
In my opinion, rogue boosters are primarliy a function of program popularity, size and propensity for success.
A large, popular and successful program like OSU should produce plenty of rogue boosters.
Apparantly, a middle of the road program with so-so success and fanbase can also produce rogue boosters.
One could only assume that a more popular, more successful program like Michigan also has the same issue.
Hey...a bit off topic bu you guys here anything new about the whole RR coaching thing? Is Brandon going to give him an extension on his contract or what?
Maybe if we take out Rich we can go get somebody like Harbaugh. I heard he's dying to take the Michigan gig.
I'll keep you guys posted on things if I hear anything new to report.
I believe its HEAR** Spellcheck. If you're gonna grill me, you should consider checking yourself.
So says the guy that spells "it's" wrong,
Attention to grammar and spelling on MGoBlog > half the papers I do in college. Something is wrong here ha
... may soon be available. He may be in some NCAA troubles now, but I believe he's innocent because of all the games he's won down in Ohio.
Available for what? If the NCAA gives us what we deserve we'll get the death penalty in every sport indefinitely.
How do you not know this?
that even the walkons at Michigan receive thousands of dollars each year. How is it possible we continue to thumb our noses at the NCAA?
Walkons get what money from whom?
This may or may not be his real name, but he speaks with authority. He is certifiable.
(do I really need this)> /s
(yeah I guess I do)
Any update on Rojo?
How many Sparty's do you know with an extra $500 lying around? Did Walmart increase pay for greeters? Did bags of seeds/stems and 22 ounce Bud Lights get cheaper? I don't buy it.
Did someone mention a train? I like trains. Trains are cool.
I'll go back to sleep now...
Speaking of trains though:
