Sparty not playing well against Youngstown State

Submitted by James Burrill Angell on

Been flashing back and forth between the Tigers (who have a comfortable lead) and the MSU vs. Youngstown game. Score is 7-6 MSU with a few minutes left in the first half. But for some stupid penalties and a blown extra point Youngstown should be leading. MSU's line looks attrocious. Can't open up a hole on the inside and the only runs they're getting are running to the sidelines where they're just flat out faster than the YSU players on most plays (thats how State gots its TD). Sparty has an absolutely horrible starting CB (White #32) who can't cover anyone without an interference penalty.

EDIT, and the second I post, Cousins drops a sixty yard pass play on Youngstown and they go in three plays later with solid blocking and an off tacle run be LeVeon Bell 14-6.

Nobody from YSU could start for Sparty, but they are keeping it close.  I still say Sparty is 6-6 or 7-5 and bound for Ford Field in December.

I forget who State played last season at Ford Field, but they stunk it up pretty bad, and ended up winning a share of the Big Ten.  I take games like this with a grain of salt.

I think it's funny that a corner of state's lights went out and they played "All of the lights". They should probably install permanent lights... can they afford it?

I appreciate this rationale on the surface.

However, based on your other posts, I think you're leaving something unsaid.  Something that makes your alleged rationale look much, much different.  But I could be wrong.

Bell looks pretty darn good.  For an opening game, they're not disastrous, they're not dominating, they're just sort of getting it done.

This game is going to turn into one of those 35-6 deals real quick.

Caught that, too.  I thought it was a rather poor effort on the part of the play-by-play team to say that Rogers had been recruited by Michigan State, with absolutely no mention of having committed to Michigan.  Speaking of this play-by-play team, their commentary on Izzo's football days was also really poorly done.  Izzo and Mariucci went to Northern Michigan, not Michigan Tech (as they stated).
