Sparty not playing well against Youngstown State
Been flashing back and forth between the Tigers (who have a comfortable lead) and the MSU vs. Youngstown game. Score is 7-6 MSU with a few minutes left in the first half. But for some stupid penalties and a blown extra point Youngstown should be leading. MSU's line looks attrocious. Can't open up a hole on the inside and the only runs they're getting are running to the sidelines where they're just flat out faster than the YSU players on most plays (thats how State gots its TD). Sparty has an absolutely horrible starting CB (White #32) who can't cover anyone without an interference penalty.
EDIT, and the second I post, Cousins drops a sixty yard pass play on Youngstown and they go in three plays later with solid blocking and an off tacle run be LeVeon Bell 14-6.

Boy MSU is picking right up where they left off in January. Their D must still think YSU is Alabama.

Does NO ONE respect the wrath from high atop the thing?

just switch to the MSU YSU game. The Tigers are up huge.

Don't they have like 3 new starters. Looking very beat-able
September 2nd, 2011 at 10:13 PM ^
Yeah, two of them are from the defensive second string and have never played offensive line. Plus they have a new center. Not to mention they have an annoying quarterback.

kirk cousins, seems like a nice enough guy.

YSU is overmatched. They will lose by 3-4 TDs. MSU has some problems, but looks good.
September 2nd, 2011 at 8:59 PM ^
Anyone see that draw counter type run play? It was pretty slick.

MSU looks very beatable.

Nobody from YSU could start for Sparty, but they are keeping it close. I still say Sparty is 6-6 or 7-5 and bound for Ford Field in December.
September 2nd, 2011 at 9:02 PM ^
I forget who State played last season at Ford Field, but they stunk it up pretty bad, and ended up winning a share of the Big Ten. I take games like this with a grain of salt.

To be fair, any other year and MSU probably would have finished with 8-9 wins, which kind of makes sense. Last year's game against FAU probably wasn't representative of MSU's ceiling, but those games against Iowa and Alabama definitely showed that they weren't amaing.

Thanks OP - you may have made my hour
September 2nd, 2011 at 9:04 PM ^
YSU has rushed for over 90 yards already against MSU. That's a "ruh-roh" for when they reach B1G play.
September 2nd, 2011 at 9:06 PM ^
What I've noticed in this game is all the penalties on MSU.
Reminds me of the Sparty of old.
Looking forward to some big Sparty No moments this year!

I think it's funny that a corner of state's lights went out and they played "All of the lights". They should probably install permanent lights... can they afford it?

Commented to my wife that they must not have had enough money in the budget for electricity

Alas, I hope this post is sufficient.

Penalty after penalty after penalty. How many underclassmen are starting for Sparty this year?
September 2nd, 2011 at 9:12 PM ^
Sparty can't seem to run anything inside the tackles. Be interesting to see if ND and OSU try to hem them in.
September 2nd, 2011 at 9:32 PM ^
I've been saying this for the last month. They'll win six or seven games this year. The positions they needed to replace are way too crucial. They are an inconsistent regional program. They had a losing record two years ago. People don't forget.
September 2nd, 2011 at 9:19 PM ^
They are playing on a Friday night, and yet they are stuck on BTN? That's just sad.
September 2nd, 2011 at 9:29 PM ^
It's a regional program. Nobody that's thirty miles out of the Lansing area cares.
September 2nd, 2011 at 9:30 PM ^
They are playing an FCS team. Pretty sure you'll never see an FBS vs. FCS game on national television, regardless of game time.
September 2nd, 2011 at 9:21 PM ^
Lets make this the last time a thread is started about what MSU is doing. The nation doesnt care, neither should we.
September 2nd, 2011 at 9:31 PM ^
You wouldn't care if they got Appy State'd? Neither would the nation?
September 2nd, 2011 at 9:36 PM ^
No, I wouldnt care and Amuurica wouldnt care if they got beat tonight because Amuurica doesnt even know they are playing.
September 2nd, 2011 at 9:39 PM ^
I get what you're saying, but the #17 team in the nation losing to an FCS team would be very nationally relevant.
September 2nd, 2011 at 9:43 PM ^
No one would care. I've maintained all along the only reason the App State game mattered was because it's Michigan (dammit). Va Tech got beat by James Madison. No one cared because Va Tech isn't Michigan.
September 2nd, 2011 at 9:40 PM ^
Fuck MSU, no one cares.
September 2nd, 2011 at 9:58 PM ^
and am watching. Wanna know why? 1) I like football and 2) we have to play this team. I like to watch teams that we get to play and get an idea of what to expect
September 2nd, 2011 at 10:12 PM ^
I appreciate this rationale on the surface.
However, based on your other posts, I think you're leaving something unsaid. Something that makes your alleged rationale look much, much different. But I could be wrong.

Bell looks pretty darn good. For an opening game, they're not disastrous, they're not dominating, they're just sort of getting it done.
This game is going to turn into one of those 35-6 deals real quick.

Davion Rogers sighting
September 3rd, 2011 at 12:31 AM ^
Caught that, too. I thought it was a rather poor effort on the part of the play-by-play team to say that Rogers had been recruited by Michigan State, with absolutely no mention of having committed to Michigan. Speaking of this play-by-play team, their commentary on Izzo's football days was also really poorly done. Izzo and Mariucci went to Northern Michigan, not Michigan Tech (as they stated).
September 2nd, 2011 at 10:00 PM ^
YSU needs to answer now.
September 2nd, 2011 at 10:05 PM ^
They made it until the end of the 3rd quarter to get the sideline interview with Izzo?
September 2nd, 2011 at 10:15 PM ^
I thought a few years ago that iowa was going to be awful when they had to block two FG's to beat UNI, they won the orange bowl.
September 2nd, 2011 at 10:23 PM ^
...against a very mediocre Georgia Tech team that didn't belong in a BCS bowl. But good point regardless.
