Sparty NOT changing its logo now

Nice to see an administration take the response of its fans into account. Not that I *like* either of the logos, but the new one didn't look good at all.

Color me not surprised. My guess is the "leak" was just a widespread test of opinions. The results weren't good so they decide not to go with it.

If they weren't such a grabbag of losers they wouldn't have had to entertain the thought of even changing their logo. But since they can't even decide on a shade of green, or what to put on their helmets, or what design of football uniforms to sport, I guess one can't be surprised that they decided to stick with one thing.

Seems strange to me. Lots of design dollars go into any potential redesign, and reaction is almost never going to be favorable to a leak. Not that people always love big official announcements either, but you are at least setting yourself up so that you can position it the way you want and as such, you have a better likelihood of swaying people. Overall, just a weird chain of events...

And of course I went to Michigan, breaking their hearts. I think my mom said it best when she said "I disliked that logo more than you going to Michigan." I love it.

And there was much rejoicing in East Lansing and Okemos. I don't blame them for getting mad. Though the move to standardize the green that is used in their uniforms across all sports teams would be a good one, changing a logo they've had for like 40 years is stupid. If it's lasted 40+ years, and it isn't offensive or something, leave it alone. Especially in college football, where tradition probably matters more than in any other US sport.

Athletic Department allegedly has decided to go coincide their branding identity with Gholston's tattoo. They should just change their helmets to whatever his most recent ink will be. Think of the possibilities: 2011: Mighty Mouse 2012: Scarface 2013: Ionia Maximum Correctional Facility 4 Lif Hey, just ask the coaches. I shouldn't have said that.

They were for the new logo before they were against it.

I want to see sparty ditch the spartan logo for the "S" on the helmet and green stripes on the pants. Their uniforms have always sucked except for the John L Smith era unis IMO.

I'm bummed that they're not changing the logo again, but it's because right after MSU hired Dantonio, Valenti said something on the radio to the effect of, "This new guy is the real deal. No more fooling around, no more changing the helmets and uniforms." The following season, they immediately changed the helmet again. Would have been funny if they decided to do it again just now.

Sparty's fanbase may have won this battle, but they haven't won the war. Nike has been working with MSU on a uniform overhaul (which they will unveil in April). And if Nike's work with previous universities is any indication, the results will be hilarious. In my opinion, Nike is single-handedly ruining athletic design. Their gimmicks and arena football-esque design aesthetic is the opposite of what big-time college represents: tradition and taste. Just watch; Sparty's logo will stay the same, but Nike will trot them out next season in clown suits. They'll probably add black to look 'meaner', then they'll completely jump the shark by adding four or five different pairs of pants and four or five different helmets to 'expand their color palette'. This will result in a complete loss of Sparty's identity. Let me ask you this: what are Oregon's team colors? It's hard to tell anymore. Is it green and gold? Or black? Or silver? Or white? Or fucking CHROME? Who knows? And all of this works for Oregon. Why? Because the goofiness is now, ironically, traditional. Their jerseys are like the blue turf at Boise: Sure, it's wacky and ugly, but since nobody else does it, it seems quaint. Just watch. Come August, Sparty will come out looking ridiculous (in hopes of generating excitement in their abortion of a program), and some Nike huckster will be interviewed on the sidelines talking about the "complete armored experience" and "epic multi-fiber knit orgasmatron effect" of the new uniforms. This is when we Michigan fans will lean back, smile, and rejoice in the fact that we have the cleanest, purest, most beautiful look in college football. And we will laugh as our winged warriors beat the everloving fuck out of Little Brother in their Batman suits.
