So following your logic, neither Wisconsin or MSU should go to the Rose Bowl since they each beat one another.
Those of us who live in Michigan are going to hear this crap for the next month so let's have at it. Let us venture to address the ever aggrieved Sparty..
WELCOME TO REALITY SPARTY. THE WORLD IS ABOUT MAKING MONEY!
Yes, the BCS is not about rewarding good kids, or creating the best match ups or any of that crap. It's about making match ups within perameters reasonable enough such that they won't get too harshly criticized that will bring in the best viewership for the tv rights so they can sell the TV rights for the most money and , ergo, make the most money for themselves. At what point was the BCS or even the Bowl system ever really anything else?
So ok Sparty, I'll give you this, if the BCS was about rewarding the very best teams, then maybe we don't belong this particular year if we do finish at 13 or 14. That said, you sure as hell don't either. The ones who deserve to bitch are teams like Arkansas who will finish top 10 (as there are exactly 10 BCS spots so under The Sparty poster's logic, the top ten teams should go) but will be on the outside looking in only because two better teams from their conference finished ahead of them in a year where there were a hell of a lot of good SEC teams.
No Sparty. You're not going to the BCS and we very well may. On top of that, you probably will be in Tampa playing in the Outback while Nebraska (oh yeah, a team that RIPPED you that we in turn ripped) will be taking your spot in Orlando. Maybe if you keep Wisconsin from putting up 40 something points on you or keep your thug ass criminal mitts off the Badger punter, we're not having this discussion and you all are still in beer induced, Upholstry flaming rapture celebrating your first trip to Pasadena since hair bands were still cool.
The system is the system and life is often unfair. Win and you don't have these problems. Choke when it counts and you're drinking tear-diluted beer. Learn to win and lose like men.
It's a terrible shame that posbangs are not possible.
Was an Instant ESPN Classic!
Hair Bands aren't cool anymore?
I'm officially upvoting every single post you make for quite a while. Like other people said above, that was incredible.
You guys, I don't think he wrote that. It's from RCMB.
What are you, a lawyer?
I am so confused right now. Did you mean to say all of that or did you just have a formating failgasm?
as if everything after "RCMB:" is a post from a Sparttard.
That whole passage is from RCMB.
The OP just messed up on quoting it.
That's a good one.
I love watching Douchetonio bitching and whining at PC after the game. The guy is delusional enough to think that his team can play a BCS bowl game if they make it high enough in the ranking.
Michigan State's loss likely takes the Spartans out of BCS at-large contention, while their rival Michigan, a team the Spartans beat on Oct. 15, could reach a BCS bowl. Dantonio made one final plea for his team.
"I do think the two best teams in the Big Ten played today," he said. "I do think we're worthy to compete and play at a BCS level, but you've got to get the votes to do that. I do believe we're a BCS-type football team."
You've framed your arguement with the "Douchetonio" line. Happy travels!
I do believe we're a BCS-type football team
That is true - someone has to be curb-stomped by Alabama in their bowl game.
I guess they may be abit ahead of themselves on this. I went to MSU site looking for a Danotnio postgame pressser... saw the pop up ...
while its hot. Fresh off the... wait Sparty didn't win? Oops. Sorry 'bout that.
It's not every day I get a sweet screen cap like that!
GREAT FIND. The Sparty Fails. They keep coming. It's so delicious. I just can't stop.
Soon to premiere in a third world country near you.
Cribbed from http://www.sporcle.com/games/schnoxl/sparty_no
Hey man, just post the link to Sporcle and let people play the quiz and appreciate the effort I went into updating it seconds after the game ended!
All this is when they were reasonably good. You should have seen the SPARTY NO's! back when they were bad. Like fumbling the opening kickoff for a Michigan TD.
I was heading from Ypsilanti back to ann arbor right after the game so I decided to put on wjr. I listened for about two minutes and heard more excuses made and refs blamed then any sporting event recent memory. I'll say it one more time, sparty hypocrites.
MSU is in the record books.
First team to ever lose the B1G Championship! The kids played and knew what was on the table; win and go to rose bowl, lose and go to capital one/outback/gator bowl. They lost. It's not about Michigan jumping them while being idle, its about State dropping below Michigan after losing and Michigan being a more attractive fan base to be selected by BCS.
If you want to get angry about something, get angry about Alabama playing for the National Championship without even winning thier division of thier conference, only playing four, YES FOUR, teams with winning records and losing to 1 of them, meanwhile Oklahoma State has beat 9 teams with winning records and hasnt already lost to the #1 team in the country once this year. Thank you BCS for giving us a MNC.
Dan Wetzel's 16 team playoff
11 conference champions get autobid, 5 next in line bids, keep the BCS rankings to determine the "next in line" bids based on highest rankings not auto qualified and the seedings, high seed get home field for first 2 rounds of playoffs then move it to "neutral" major bowl sites. with the national championship being played at rotating sites
Brian's and even plus 1 is better. First of all, 4 or 5 of the conference champions every year (MAC champ et. al.) have NO business being in a playoff and it would be a waste of space to include them. Second, including them would deny MUCH more deserving teams from the AQ conferences. If you are going to have a 16 team playoff, it's far better to simply have the top 16 teams in the BCS rankings in and seeded, then follow Wetzel's proposal
where some conferences get auto bids and others don't. So either every conf champ needs to get an auto bid or none do. I suppose just taking the top 16 probably gets you most of the major conferences anyway.
16 is the fairest number, but I just don't know if they would ever sign off on 3 additional games.
I don't think that selective allowance of conference champs a spot would be that tough a selling point since the Sun Belt champion cannot in good conscience expect to compete for a title. I think the top-16 makes the most sense, and rewards teams like Houston that play in crappy conferences but (nearly) made it to the end unscathed.
The Hanson Windows part was kind of funny. Let's hope we can pass them in the polls or we at least make it to 14. It would be funny to listen to MSU gripe about it (even though it may be a legitimate complaint).
Hey, I'd like to edit this so that it looks like I'm citing an RCMB guy and so people don't think that I wrote this. Can some one give me a step by step instruction of how to do that that involves ?????? profit?

Dude takes it up a notch.....
I'm probably in the minority here, but it's pretty offensive. I'm sure it's all in good fun, but just probably not the best idea.
here's the question. would it still be offensive if you knew she was an OSU fan??
I had to think about it, but yeah it's still offensive. Grand scheme of things... there are probably better gifs out there.
Violence against women is not funny
against women is totally NOT acceptable ...I can't stand people making a mockery of this horrible crime ...Signed Mike Tyson ...
Admit it though, if this wasn't about Michigan or Michigan State, you'd be calling BS on it too. Two teams with equal records with fairly equal losses, one having a head to head tie breaker over the other loses in the conference championship game in a really close 42-39 game to a team they already beat earlier in the year. No complaints about them being the #1 conference team. But then you're going to say a different team (that you also already beat) is the second best team in the conference over you and deserves a spot in the second best bowl?
Michigan State for sure should be out but Kansas State, not Michigan, really deserves to be in (assuming TCU is in).....let alone teams like Boise State who lost one game by one point or an 11 win Virginia Tech team.
Kansas State is in according to the latest projections.
Virginia Tech doesn't deserve a BCS game at all. The only currently ranked team they played all year was Clemson, and Clemson blew them out both times. They have zero wins over ranked teams.
Kansas State lost two games, just like Michigan did. Why should they go over Michigan or why should Michigan State go over them?
Boise State I can see. Boise State just got screwed.
Personally, my dream scenario is that Michigan and Michigan State are both ranked in the top 14, but then Michigan gets picked over Michigan State and there is great wailing and gnashing of teeth in East Lansing.
Boise's resume has one win over a top-25 outfit. K St has two, one of them on the road, and is second in the B12. I think they deserve some BCS love.
Michigan lost to what were ultimately a 7-5 team and a 10-3 team while beating a (using last week's rankings) #19 Nebraska team. Kansas State lost to an 11-1 Oklahoma State team in a shootout and a 9-3 Oklahoma team while beating #17 Baylor, #22 Texas, and #25 Missouri.
Appears that point is moot since TCU didn't make it and K State is in.
I agree with Virginia Tech that they don't deserve it but they still did have 11 wins in an AQ conference which should count for something (unless it's the Big East).
The only thing I'd feel guilty about is if they did squeak into the top 16 and we got in over K-State. That could still happen, right?
but frankly, the ACC isn't much better than the Big East past Clemson and VT you have...8-4 florida state and 8-4 virginia. No ranked teams. We deserve it more than VT
I think Kansas State will probably get in anyway with how it's shaking out, but yes they deserve it. Boise State is a maybe for me. They beat 7 winning teams, one of them the SEC East Champ, but still one win over a top 25 team is the same as us. And I don't think UGA>UNL. So I think Boise is a fringe BCS team if it was all about "deserves." Virginia Tech's two losses were not even close, and to a team that has been schizophrenic. And their wins have been uninspiring in the ACC. They're fringe-BCS at best, so I don't feel bad for them.
As for the M vs MSU argument, while I don't think losing your conference title game should disqualify you, and I do think you should look at an entire season's body of work, they did get handled by a Nebraska team we handled, and also handled by a ND team we squeaked by. Our Iowa loss was ugly and we lost the head-to-head, but that brings us even IMO. We didn't get handled all year - lost decidedly, yes, but not blown out. The only thing that puts them ahead of us is their Wiscy win, IMO. And they did lose on a neutral field - no matter how fluky or close the loss was, it's still a loss, andit goes a ways to negating their win at home. Not fully, but that's still one win over a top 25 team.
At the end of the day I think MSU is about as good as we are with a resume about as good as ours - which is to say, fringe BCS. If we both were in the top 14, I wouldn't feel guilty at all about taking that BCS berth over them. And if we're ranked ahead of them, I understand it.
Of the teams in the running for that last spot - K-St, Boise, VT, M and Sparty, only K St is clearly more deserving than us. Everyone else has a resume about as good as ours, with VT's being worse. If this were all about "deserves," they'd need some kind of tie-breaker. So the fact that our fanbase and brand-name gives us an edge doesn't bother me this year.
Correct. This is not a Michigan State thing.
The loser of a conference championship game typically gets screwed on bowl selection. They have an additional and fresh loss, and a disillusioned fan base that may not be predisposed to spend the money and time to travel to yet another big game.
This is how it works. Conference members know this when they chase the money of a CCG. MSU was just the first to experience it. Next year it will happen to someone else. Some year it will happen to Michigan. Is what it is.
Quit the whine.
Three times in BCS history an at-large bid has gone to a conference championship game loser. Two of those three were 2008 Alabama and 2009 Florida, which means Sparty should have known what was up before they agreed to play the BTCG.
"If that's so, fuck michigan playing in the BCS because they have a pimped out team that pulls in trailer trash to watch." - from the quoted RCMB source
...except our trailer trash travels well and piques national curiosity. MSU trailer trash is so....Delta Township.
Obviously we travel well, we already have our trailers ready to go.
I think that is the difference between UM trailer trash and MSU trailer trash. UM trailer trash is the type where you can drive it and actually go places. MSU trailer trash is the type that sits on cinder blocks in middles of a meth neighborhood that cannot move.
In all honesty, I think MSU is getting screwed because you shouldnt penalize a team for going to a big ten championship. If Michigan have gotten screwed like MSU, I know we would be all pissed off. I think it is hilarious that MSU got screwed. I drive bus for MSU and take the kids to class. I cant wait to laugh at everyone of those students that gets on my bus.
If MSU hadn't gotten creamed by ND and Nebraska we wouldn't be having this discussion. They got a shot at the B1G championship and a Rose Bowl but they didn't win. I don't feel sorry for them. Brady Hoke would have traded places with them in a second to be on that field, even if losing means you might not get a BCS bowl.
I sure love the schadenfreude, but I would happily trade our current position to have had a shot at the championship. And I'm actually feeling a lot of empathy for State today, having been the relatively recent victim of a 42-39 loss in a very important game, decided in part by a flag the ref really had no choice but to throw.... Suck it up and go win your bowl game.
They had their chance and LOST...And I would have to say the trailer trash is on the msu side..Have fun waiting another 20+years for a Rose bowl, losers ........
....that they are still "little brother" in mentality. Yeah, I would think that, if this were Denard being interviewed, mention of MSU would be conspicuously absent from his remarks. I do appreciate that they never shirk at an opportunity to give us a mention though - that's one more shirt sold somewhere.
Comments like that from Cousins make the roughing the punter call and the cruel way they lost all the more sweeter.
I think I'll send Kirk some roses.
Very well played. I called it "Insightful," even though that does nothing.
be a world-class university with 132 years of great football tradition, 42 Big Ten titles, the most wins and highest winning percentage, largest football stadium and a national following. You guys go work on that, and maybe this won't happen to you again. But be patient, because it takes generations.
but he always comes off as whiny and petty. The reason no one cares about MSU is because even MSU cares about Michigan more than MSU
Here's Johnny Adams. Sorry, but I just can find any sympathy for a guy who has something to say or some gesture to make after every single play.
Smoke up, Johnny
couldn't agree more.. ive watched several games this year where he should of been flagged several times... he is a classless player.. fuckin clown i can taste your sparty tears nom nom
It feels like they wanted to lose this game so they can complain about how the world is unfair to them. Seriously guys, you have a chance to win the B10, just shut up and play for a chance in the Rose Bowl. More time watching film, less time complaining about life. You will always be our "little brother."
Call the waaaaaaaambulance. Go Blue
That's some world-class cognitive dissonance there.
They think everyone on their team is a Kirk Cousins clone. (to be fair, we think every kid on their team is Gholston).
Meanwhile, they think every kid on Michigan is...wait, who are Michigan's bad apples?
I found it quite appropriate that a team whose players lack discipline in their personal lives was done in by an obvious penalty for running into the kicker. You can enable criminal behavior all you want as a coach, but it eventually comes back to bite you in the bleep. Just a tad more discipline in EL and all of the schadenfreude is directed toward Madison.
Sparty or Dantonio like to claim that they belong, but every time they get a chance to prove it, they lose, then make all sorts of excuses. Just proves that they haven't arrived.
When the game ended and the presser began, I wanted to say, "Act like you've been there...oh wait..."
At first they were like...
Then they were like...
This is a quote from The Only Colors thread that just made me laugh - and for the record, I'm an MSU alum (grad school).
We're one of the best traveling fanbases in the country With alums everywhere. Ohio State beats us out in bowl selections when possible, but beyond that, no other team has real legitimacy to based solely on +$.
When you can't sell out your rinky-dink stadium for home games, and had trouble filling whatever allotment the Cap One bowl gave you for last year's game in Florida, you have NO claim to being a national fanbase that travels well. Driving from EL to A2 for a Juggalo's convention does not a mobile fanbase make.
I'm shocked that MSU fans are crying about the penalty, claiming that it was a bad call or that the MSU player was blocked into the kicker.
1. Don't call a punt block with the kind of field position you can get with plenty of time on the clock and an offense that had been moving the ball really well. It was almost guaranteed to at least go into OT.
2. The blocker barely touched the guy rushing and certainly didn't block him into the kicker. The angle was overly aggressive and he put himself in a bad position.
3. Flop or not (and it was a bit of a flop) - that penalty will get called 99% of the time in at any point of any game. I've seen the penalty called on much less contact than that before, so even if he "grazed a hamsting" he still ran into the kicker. And punters/kickers are coached to go down like that if there's contact - any smart player on any team would've done the exact same thing.
The penalty wasn't even remotely close to "borderline" as some Sparties are saying. Quit making excuses and own up to your team's mistakes.
They played a great game, and then blew it. It is their own fault. LOL Sparty !
Karma is a bitch ...
Not to mention that the Sparty player's foot whacked the kicker on the way through anyway. Even if he'd missed him with the body, the foot hit the punter. I laughed so hard when I saw it happen. The punter getting up and celebrating made it even better!
The punter was absolutely roughed. Yeah he acted, but it just made it an easier call for the ref. Whining about that call is really digging for something to complain about
Also, and maybe because there were no replays it wasn't that big a deal, but on the return I thought there was a block in the back that would have negated return anyway.
It was a tough way to lose a game, but so was allowing a 40+-yard bomb on 4th down.
Egad, my good man - this made me spit out my mimosa:
Driving from EL to A2 for a Juggalo's convention does not a mobile fanbase make.
Brady Hoke, after losing to Wisc in the first ever B1G Championship game: "I made a mistake calling for Lewis to block that punt. He played aggressive football, just like we coach him..my bad."
Mark Dantonio in the same situation:
“I don’t know if he hit him,” Dantonio said. “You probably have seen all the replays, but he threw the flag. I thought he flopped a little bit.”
If it weren't for low class they would have no class at all.
He can't be sure whether he hit him or not because he hasn't seen the replays. Okay, fair enough. But, how is he then sure that he flopped?
Again, for all the "Dantonio is a hard-nosed coach who loves his team" crap we hear, he sure does whine a whole lot. He's an average coach who had a senior-laden team and a down rival for a couple of years - I'd be amazed if they won more than 8 games next year considering they have only a couple of playmakers returning on offense, are breaking in a new QB, and have holes on the defensive side that probably won't be filled easily. Heck, getting bowl eligible may be tough considering they also have to go on the road for a bunch of games.
That the hail Mary Td pass over wiscy didn't guaranty a victory since the game was going to OT, no penalty on the punt doesn't guaranty a victory as MSU likely scores and leaves about a minute on the clock for wiscy, which is a lot of time.
hahahaha, "decent kids"!?!?!?!?!?! This guy is fucking kidding himself. HAHAHAHAHAHA.
What will their Rose Bowl billboard say this year? I think "he didn't touch the punter much"
But I'm sure Sparty Nation will state their case clearly and rationally on the myriad of billboards that are sure to pop up all over Michigan decrying the injustice of this whole BCS mess.
Is anyone else having trouble loading images?
The Pop-Up on msuspartans.com is priceless. It was still there at the time of this message.
5 years ago when Dantonia made the "look down at your feet. in 5 years those feet will be standing in the Rose Bowl" comment...
HE LIED TO THAT POOR UNKNOWING KID
he was pretty darn close to being right. Like one roughing the punter penalty away from being right
No, he was a roughed punter, a drive and a field goal away from the possibility of an overtime win, or a roughed punter and a touchdown away from the rose bowl. They had a lot of work left in that game if they didn't rough the punter
If they hadn't roughed him, they had 1st and goal from the 2 with a 1:45 to go. Given the amount of defense played in that game to that point, I'd be willing to be MSU punched that in in one or two plays
This. I know people love to talk about the fact that Martin nearly returned it to the house, but it looked like the Wiscy players kind of knew a penalty was coming (a couple had noticeably slowed down on that return). But regardless, MSU still has to score, then kick the ball back to Wiscy with about 1.5-2 minutes left to march down the field and try to score. Considering how bad MSU's defense had looked that last quarter, there were worlds of things that could have happened.
Big Ten sees a loss triangle of Michigan - Nebraska - MSU with an additional Michigan loss.
Nationally, they see two loss triangles of Michigan - Notre Dame - MSU and Michigan - Nebraska - MSU.
Notably, none of these matchups ended with the road team winning.
There are the extra losses as well: Michigan has a close loss at Iowa. Michigan State has a close loss in the title game.
I'd say that under these circumstances alone Michigan State does have the slightly better resume when it comes to loss analysis, but this likely evens out when you factor in that their loss to nebraska was a completely noncompetitive one-sided jailsexing
At the end of the day, you have three factors playing into this:
1, three-loss voter knee-jerk reaction, (unjustly against sparty)
2. Money factor, Michigan will bring it due to program name + storylines + Denard dilithium (unjustly against sparty)
3. SpartyNoo / Dantonio team in bowl game beatdown factor:
Last year both michigan and michigan state played in bowl games that weren't anywhere near competitive. Voters remember this. People write off michigan last year because the improvements from then this year are legion and the team has a completely new identity. Nobody, however, is convinced that Michigan State is a significantly different team than the one that got braincocked by Bama.
This is evidenced by how they've lost games this season:
1. Laid a complete egg at notre dame and weren't ever really in it
2. Aforementioned nebraska annhilation
3. Undisciplined play throws away an otherwise dominant chamionship game performance (Pathetic late-game 4th down punt and, seriously, why were you within 10 yards of that punter). As a result, Michigan State's situation, while unfortunate, comes across as easily avoidable with some disciplined football.
I love seeing the good guys proving the bad guys wrong, but that we do it with the use of actual statistical information. Not just "fuck that team" logic.
MSU hasn' t been to Pasadena since 1987 season (1988 Rose Bowl).
They had a good defense that year.
For 2012 I think they'll be pretty good defensively, but replacing that quarterback, those receivers and winning another 11 games is going to be serious a challenge.
Wisconsin played a great game too and that fact seems to have been lost on Dantonio and his staff given their post game comments.
Let's see what Valenti has to say....
I put in 3:1 odds that Valenti calls in "sick" tomorrow.
"trailer trash?" I think he's just mad that our RV party machines are a little bit nicer than his 1993 Chevrolet Celebrity
maybe the BCS committee didn't want roving bands of ski masked thugs beating up people in their cities, and didn't want' 60 minutes of unnecessary roughness on the field. "decent kids" my ass.
Yes. Last night and this morning was painful, but after reflecting a bit I can say that I'm extremely proud of this team and what they were able to accomplish. I went to school in the JLS era and would be salivating at even the opportunity to appear in the Insight Bowl. Now, they are coming off 2 10 win season and the future looks bright. The team played a hell of a game last night, especially the seniors. Hats off to Wisconsin as played a great game. It just did not work out for us. After the game I was talking to a Michigan buddy of mine and asked if this is what 2006 OSU felt like. He said yep. Sucks, but looking back, still a solid season.
You seem like a nice enough guy and certainly an exception to the masses of MSU football fans (and players). However, that's entirely inconsistent with your statements of being extremely proud of the team. I'd rather have a losing season and do it with class than a winning season without it. Your players are a bunch of classless, thugs whose actions on the field and off it are despicable, up to and include Cousins whining about not going to a BCS bowl. I guess MSU players can win AND lose without class.
Well, sort of...except we were 11-0 and looking at a trip to the national championship game, not just another B1G championship. You've got to be a pretty old Spartan fan to remember anything like that.
And that's why it makes no sense for a recruit to go to MSU over Michigan. Do you want to languish in obscurity or play in the spotlight? MSU has a good team this year, but no one cares.
Sparty will always be a second class program.
Oh little brother... sorry our team isn't made up of a bunch of inmates.
Sparty wants it both ways - the benefit of playing for the Big Ten championship, without the risk of getting punished by voters should they lose.
Here's an idea. The winner of each division can go ahead to play in the conference championship game, or they can opt out but select another school to play instead. This removes the fear of losing and getting hosed by the voters. So for example MSU could've chosen Michigan to go in their place - forcing Michigan to play for the championship and assuming the risk as well.
Every Sparty is forgetting one thing...they LOST in the Big Ten Championship game. It's as if they are trying to sweep that little bit of info under the rug to get people to feel sorry for them. They are not being "punished" for playing, they are being "punished" for losing. Nobody wants Sparty in the BCS picture because everyone knows they are a fraud. They proved that point last year going 11-1 and STILL getting left out of the BCS hunt while getting spanked by Alabama in the Cap One Bowl.
