Sparty NO Schadenfreude Thread

Submitted by Gorgeous Borges on

i figured we might get a head start on Sparty schadenfreude and post some of the good stuff here. Maybe we'll even help Brian with TWIS!

Here's what I found, from RCMB:

It's all about the BCS

You know that's the pathetic part of this crap.

It is all about the BCS and how "it" makes money.

At the start of this season somebody posted an article about the NCAA and what complete sham it is. To sum it up, the NCAA is fucking over the players. That someday somebody will take the NCAA down.

Aren't these games supposed to be about the kids playing the game?

If that's so, fuck michigan playing in the BCS because they have a pimped out team that pulls in trailer trash to watch. Because the only reason I;m seeing about them getting a BCS bid has nothing to do with their season, it's purely bucks. So as a Spartan fan I feel I have every right to be bitter that a team made up of decent kids is going to get fucked over just because they put themselves in a position to go to a higher level. Yep, tell them that they are second rate to a team they beat.

Guess the part that sucks is that by losing their way into no shot at a championship Hoke a joke and pizza boy have had a week open to lobby and suck dick. And they have. Hope I'm wrong and the rest of the nation watched tonight and realize the kids are more important than scummers sucking in cash to pay more off on the Hanson Window renovation of the shit hole. I guess I doubt it.

Everybody knew going into this game that the loser would most likely not go to a BCS bowl.  That is generally how things play out with Championship Games.  In the B1G when all was said or done, there were only two teams that could have guaranteed themselves a spot in the BCS.  Wisconsin sealed it for themselves (or should we say MSU sealed it for them?).  We had two regular season losses, same as them.  We beat both of the teams that beat them, one of them in epic beatdown fashion.  At the same time, they got horrendously beaten in both of their losses, while we were within one score in the 4th quarter in both of ours.  Why exactly do they deserve to go?  Because they beat us, at home, in a trash tornado by exercising despicable post-play violence?  MSU most definitely did not get robbed.

Correct.  This is not a Michigan State thing.

The loser of a conference championship game typically gets screwed on bowl selection.  They have an additional and fresh loss, and a disillusioned fan base that may not be predisposed to spend the money and time to travel to yet another big game.

This is how it works.  Conference members know this when they chase the money of a CCG.  MSU was just the first to experience it.  Next year it will happen to someone else.  Some year it will happen to Michigan.  Is what it is.

Quit the whine.

...except our trailer trash travels well and piques national curiosity. MSU trailer  trash is so....Delta Township.

In all honesty, I think MSU is getting screwed because you shouldnt penalize a team for going to a big ten championship. If Michigan have gotten screwed like MSU, I know we would be all pissed off. I think it is hilarious that MSU got screwed. I drive bus for MSU and take the kids to class. I cant wait to laugh at everyone of those students that gets on my bus.

If MSU hadn't gotten creamed by ND and Nebraska we wouldn't be having this discussion. They got a shot at the B1G championship and a Rose Bowl but they didn't win. I don't feel sorry for them. Brady Hoke would have traded places with them in a second to be on that field, even if losing means you might not get a BCS bowl.

I sure love the schadenfreude, but I would happily trade our current position to have had a shot at the championship. And I'm actually feeling a lot of empathy for State today, having been the relatively recent victim of a 42-39 loss in a very important game, decided in part by a flag the ref really had no choice but to throw.... Suck it up and go win your bowl game.

Kyle Meinke
MSU's Kirk Cousins had scathing remarks regarding the BCS: "Michigan sat home tonight on the couch and watched us. We played our hearts out"

Somehow I don't thin we'd ever see a UM player discuss MSU if roles were reversed.

....that they are still "little brother" in mentality. Yeah, I would think that, if this were Denard being interviewed, mention of MSU would be conspicuously absent from his remarks. I do appreciate that they never shirk at an opportunity to give us a mention though  - that's one more shirt sold somewhere.

Um Kirk, aren't you supposed to talk about what a magnificent privilege it was to play in the first ever B1G Champoinship Game and all that jazz.  C'mon man, keep your Eddie Haskell front on.  You sound like some whiner who feels entitled to a BCS bowl despite the fact that you had a shot at one and Sparty No!!!'d it away.  Now Kirk,  I wanna hear you say something like  hard work...blah blah blah.  We had our shot...bla blah blah.  Oh, and when I run into you at a wedding or something I will certainly not mention how Denard and company, whom you beat three times, went to a BCS bowl while you and the Ingham County Work Release Crew went to some anonymous Bowl named after either a shitty restaurant or a bottom feeder credit card company.

be a world-class university with 132 years of great football tradition, 42 Big Ten titles, the most wins and highest winning percentage, largest football stadium and a national following.  You guys go work on that, and maybe this won't happen to you again.  But be patient, because it takes generations.

Here's Johnny Adams.  Sorry, but I just can find any sympathy for a guy who has something to say or some gesture to make after every single play.

It feels like they wanted to lose this game so they can complain about how the world is unfair to them. Seriously guys, you have a chance to win the B10, just shut up and play for a chance in the Rose Bowl. More time watching film, less time complaining about life. You will always be our "little brother."

I found it quite appropriate that a team whose players lack discipline in their personal lives was done in by an obvious penalty for running into the kicker.  You can enable criminal behavior all you want as a coach, but it eventually comes back to bite you in the bleep.  Just a tad more discipline in EL and all of the schadenfreude is directed toward Madison.

Sparty or Dantonio like to claim that they belong, but every time they get a chance to prove it, they lose, then make all sorts of excuses. Just proves that they haven't arrived.

This is a quote from The Only Colors thread that just made me laugh - and for the record, I'm an MSU alum (grad school).

We're one of the best traveling fanbases in the country With alums everywhere. Ohio State beats us out in bowl selections when possible, but beyond that, no other team has real legitimacy to based solely on +$.

When you can't sell out your rinky-dink stadium for home games, and had trouble filling whatever allotment the Cap One bowl gave you for last year's game in Florida, you have NO claim to being a national fanbase that travels well.  Driving from EL to A2 for a Juggalo's convention does not a mobile fanbase make.

I'm shocked that MSU fans are crying about the penalty, claiming that it was a bad call or that the MSU player was blocked into the kicker.

1. Don't call a punt block with the kind of field position you can get with plenty of time on the clock and an offense that had been moving the ball really well. It was almost guaranteed to at least go into OT.
2. The blocker barely touched the guy rushing and certainly didn't block him into the kicker. The angle was overly aggressive and he put himself in a bad position.
3. Flop or not (and it was a bit of a flop) - that penalty will get called 99% of the time in at any point of any game. I've seen the penalty called on much less contact than that before, so even if he "grazed a hamsting" he still ran into the kicker. And punters/kickers are coached to go down like that if there's contact - any smart player on any team would've done the exact same thing.

The penalty wasn't even remotely close to "borderline" as some Sparties are saying. Quit making excuses and own up to your team's mistakes.

Brady Hoke, after losing to Wisc in the first ever B1G Championship game: "I made a mistake calling for Lewis to block that punt.  He played aggressive football, just like we coach him..my bad."

Mark Dantonio in the same situation:

“I don’t know if he hit him,” Dantonio said. “You probably have seen all the replays, but he threw the flag. I thought he flopped a little bit.”

If it weren't for low class they would have no class at all.

Again, for all the "Dantonio is a hard-nosed coach who loves his team" crap we hear, he sure does whine a whole lot.  He's an average coach who had a senior-laden team and a down rival for a couple of years - I'd be amazed if they won more than 8 games next year considering they have only a couple of playmakers returning on offense, are breaking in a new QB, and have holes on the defensive side that probably won't be filled easily.  Heck, getting bowl eligible may be tough considering they also have to go on the road for a bunch of games.

That the hail Mary Td pass over wiscy didn't guaranty a victory since the game was going to OT, no penalty on the punt doesn't guaranty a victory as MSU likely scores and leaves about a minute on the clock for wiscy, which is a lot of time.

What will their Rose Bowl billboard say this year?  I think "he didn't touch the punter much"

But I'm sure Sparty Nation will state their case clearly and rationally on the myriad of billboards that are sure to pop up all over Michigan decrying the injustice of this whole BCS mess.
