I thought the Sparty sign flashed during the game was fairly creative.

Same here. For all the people on this blog who say things like "we don't curr bout Spartah!" there seems to be a lot of people who care a lot about Sparty.
People who claim they dont care are either blind or delusional. Coming from the basketball side of things, until recently Izzo had had his foot on our throats for the better part of 15 years.
Nobody believes you. You might as well quit pretending.
you live and are from. I'm not from and don't live in Michigan and don't really care about Sparty. I'm sure it would be different if I was from/ lived in Michigan. I don't work with or see any Spartan fans, so it's asy not to care.
"They're stuck with that quarterback (sophomore Braxton Miller) for the next two or three years, that's fine with me. He throws worse than (Tim) Tebow. - Steve Everitt
Agreed;
Ohio State
Notre Dame
.
.
.
Michigan State
I would guess this is true for a vast majority of people from outside the state of Michigan.
'06 BBA, '07 MAcc: Brabbs' walk-off 44 yarder to the escape vs. Ball State. 30-4 at the Big House.
I think Notre Dame is closer to Michigan State than to Ohio State in terms of how much we care about our opponents
When OSU or ND beat Michigan, their fans, generally speaking, act ike they've been there before. They offer some ribbing and move on. MSU fans? There is no moving on from anything when it comes to Michigan. Your players are still crying about some phantom BCS snub, which is fueling the fire of their mindless minions.
All right Lemmings. Bring the heat.
When you either grew up with Sparty fans or currently work and live with Sparty fans, you're sick of the bullshit they've been spewing the past month.
I don't blame those guys one bit for that sign. I'm sick of hearing about it from my MSU friends from home and I live 8 hours away from Michigan. MSU fans suck to be around.
Intensity is a lot of guys that run fast.
in light of Coupons essentially crying to the media about Michigan (and bowl selections) after losing to Wisconsin.
Michigan fans care about Sparty only because Michigan's dominance over Sparty has been temporarily paused. Sparty obsesses about Michigan whether it loses or wins the Michigan game. The sparty players' tweets show as much.
Every man at some point is gonna lose a battle. He's gonna fight and he's gonna lose. But what makes him a man, is that in the midst of that battle he does not lose himself. This game is not over, this battle is not over. So let's hear it .
I can't even accurately decribe what I felt when they cut to the sign. I hated it. I hated it in 100 different ways. If any of you four involved are reading this blog, please know that I hate you.
Making a sign about a team were not playing, a team that has beat us the last four years? and one that isn't even our primary rival? Thanks for making our fanbase look small and weak on a very national level.
"This might sound arrogant and if it is, it is .... but we're Michigan." -Brady Hoke
Look like a sparty
Mom, MGrad and life long fan living in So Cal
They're obsessed with us. They have a hard-wired inferiority complex about all things U of M related. They measure their self-worth by comparing themselves to us. Let's not start returning the favor.
"You know, for a bartender/bookie, you're pretty judgmental."
become "measuring our self-worth" by Sparty? It was an attempt at humor because of his tears. It was pretty funny.
Every man at some point is gonna lose a battle. He's gonna fight and he's gonna lose. But what makes him a man, is that in the midst of that battle he does not lose himself. This game is not over, this battle is not over. So let's hear it .
Because it was completely out of context. If we had actually been playing Sparty, it would have made sense and it would have been funny. We weren't even playing a game in the state of Michigan. It was cheap.
Cousins cried and directly called out Michigan's BCS eligibility. I'd say our appearance in said BCS game has context. Your suggestion that, to make fun of sparty, we must only be playing sparty is based on what?
Making fun of an opponent is one motivation to poke fun. Another motivation to poke fun: a senior QB (also a captain that leads by example) crying after a game--that Michigan didn't even play in--about the possibility that Michigan gets picked for a BCS bowl game. His crying is what is "completely out of context." The fans' sign is in direct response to Cousins. Hence it has context.
Think about what you're writing: If sparty had played Michigan in the BCS game, Cousins would have in fact likely not cried about Michigan's BCS eligibility. The sign would then make no sense and not be funny.
The sparty players are acting like their "leaders," Cousins and Dantonio. They're obsessing about Michigan and crying when the masses don't follow sparty "logic."
The sign was a joke and pretty funny at that. What about that can't you understand?
Every man at some point is gonna lose a battle. He's gonna fight and he's gonna lose. But what makes him a man, is that in the midst of that battle he does not lose himself. This game is not over, this battle is not over. So let's hear it .
no other statement here has come closer to the feelings i had about those signs, than yours.
But if you didn't like that sign please reach down and make sure you still have testicles. Class is what RVB said in response to the Cousins comment. Fans are allowed to be rowdy/classless occasionally, especially if it gets you on TV.
Fergodsakes!
That signage was pure awesome. Especially after Cousins crybaby ass comment.
Someone please call DeAnthony today so we have another reason to cheer.
Fergodsakes!
So you would have us stoop to their level? Grow up.
Or at least try not to be so serious. Have some fun! We won the Sugar Bowl and Kirk Coupons cried about it since he lost to Wisconsin.
Every man at some point is gonna lose a battle. He's gonna fight and he's gonna lose. But what makes him a man, is that in the midst of that battle he does not lose himself. This game is not over, this battle is not over. So let's hear it .
but I laughed my ass off when I saw it...just went to a level of creativity with the sugar bowl theme and the party comments...bottom line, sparty controlled their own fate, beat whisky and you play in a bcs bowl. Sorry you suck. Come fall of 2012 let team 133 make that sign irrelevant!
I was also very disappointed in the sign. Wheres the class?
I was not really a fan. I love schadenfreude, but I prefer to enjoy with a quiet smile, and not rub it in. Plus, having not beat them in four years makes it a little hollow. Also, I kind of view MSU as my pet cat: sometimes she knocks shit over just to get attention. You have to ignore them, or it validates their stupid behavior.
I mean, I get that it could be seen as not having class or being Sparty like, but it's only because they thought they should have been in this specific bowl over us and said we didn't deserve it. Had state gone 8-4 or whatever and someone made a sign dissing them I would have thought it to be idiotic, but given the specific circumstances, I think its justified.
I thought the sign was pretty good.
www.eatacheeseburger.blogspot.com Brian Cook has read this blog!
everyone places such a premium on beating state, regardless of their winning we are still a far superior University in every regard. Why the football game determines this to some of you is baffling.....
I don't care who wins, as long as it's Michigan.....
Ripping a sign you were holding.
Anyway, the sign made me titter, but then I realized that it was stooping to Sparty's level.
...of a sign by a Spartan fan.
Too bad it wasn't that - I'm glad I missed this sign during the broadcast. Why M fans would want to focus, even in jest, on a team that we're not even playing is small-time to me.
It only ends once. Anything that happens before that, is just progress.
I was really upset when I saw that. We're at a BCS bowl, concentrate and enjoy that. It's a shame that our third rival has won forty percent of the games in the last decade but we'll take care of that in time.
All in for some manball.
Not a good way to act. Not particularly clever. Not something to be proud of.
In the morning he would read the Bible with another coach. Then, in the afternoon, he would go out and cheat kids who had probably saved up money from mowing lawns to buy those raffle tickets. That's Jim Tressel.
Sign makes no sense in the context of the Sugar Bowl.
Those people involed in making that sign should not be allowed in michigan stadium ever again. If it was you, you are a loser!
Worry about us!
I thought it was humorous. Lighten up. Kirk Cousins (along with several Spartan players via twitter) used his opportunity on a National stage to disrespect Michigan and 4 Michigan fans were using their only chance on a National stage to give it right back. The main difference: 4 Michigan fans versus a 5 year full ride scholarship player who is supposedly the posterboard for integrity at MSU- ha! We won. Stop focusing on insipid things that really do not matter. kids will be kids. right Kirk?
At first I was like hurr SpartyLOL.
Then I was like wow isn't that petty as hell.
Then I was like it'd be funnier if MSU hadn't actually won their bowl game this year.
Then I was like oh crap, we might not even win our own bowl game.
But I thought it was kinda clever. But you have to think audience. Sure, well informed fans knew of Spartan comments. But that's was probably 5% of the people watching the game.
It was just confusing to most people including my father -in-law grad who asked me what that was about.
Sure, I care about MSU when I'm playing them or recruiting against them. But not IN- GAME vs another team. This is like the old MSU joke they would rather seem Michigan lose than win themselves.
I expect nothing and therefore never disappointed.
Fans of Michigan made a sign responding to Cousins tears about Michigan getting selected to the Sugar Bowl. In contrast, Sparty players were talking shit about Michigan in a game (BCS sugar bowl) they weren't even playing in. What's more motivation for next year's game? Four fans talking a little shit, or four players talking plenty of shit???
Every man at some point is gonna lose a battle. He's gonna fight and he's gonna lose. But what makes him a man, is that in the midst of that battle he does not lose himself. This game is not over, this battle is not over. So let's hear it .
The sign was funny but the Sugar Bowl was not the place to flaunt it, especially in the middle of a tight game. I know I didn't need another hypocratic "pride comes before the fall" coming from the mouth of Dantonio in case our luck ran out, which thankfully it didn't.
"I don't think we're rebuilding, period. We're Michigan."
--Brady Hoke
Hypocratic: adj. Referring to a form of government run by extremely energetic children.
BOOM OED'D
I cringed. Felt Sparty like. More worried about them then the game at hand.
I expect nothing and therefore never disappointed.
