Spartan Stadium experience

Submitted by UMxWolverines on

It's a giant concrete mess for one. The gas station on the east side sure is a nice touch. You only have to walk up like 10 different ramps to finally get up to the upper deck(which is in outer space).

Video boards(excuse me, board) was awful, they had to stop the play and fix the clock and playclock more than once (I guess they brought spartan bob back for a game).

Atmosphere: good lord I thought I was at a minor league baseball game for a while. Nice choice of music. Not. That crappy Gwen Stafani song especially did it for me. Plus they play that trumpet tune that is played at the Red Wings and Tigers games. Entrance video was a cheesy animation, and to top it off, they even did the "three helmets which one is the ball under" animation. I will admit it got pretty loud at times.

The campus is very nice, I will admit that, but Sparty, your stadium could use some tlc. Anybody else feel free to share their Spartan Stadium experience.

Actually the crowd was fairly well behaved, except for one asshat that was behind us inciting his brah's.  I was upper deck next to the student section and had to pee before kickoff  - thus entered the long line with the buzzed students ... and except for 1 asshat jr. the barbs were fun and I walked out with NO problems.  I was in "full M gear" w/ jersey  too.   IMO the adults were FAR worse in the stands than the students.

As for the stadium.  It's old, really old ... they need to spend that 1M that Izzo gave the football program just to bring the bathrooms out of the 1950's.   I thought the view from the upper deck was good and seating was spacious.  I think Michigan Stadium is louder.

Parking was OK, but traffic really bad as they didn't have police helping to direct traffic in or out.  On a 1 - 10 scale I'll give it a 6.5.  (just FYI  -  Northwestern was a 2).

Go Blue!

My first time in spartan stadium and i was in the student section. I didn't wear any michigan stuff but I did cheer obnoxiously. The michigan fans in the student section got the typical asshole chant and they chanted virgin and flicked them off etc. etc. They also threw stuff at them but usually missed. But i thought during the game they kept the harassing down. Stadium concorse for the very little time I saw it seemed like a old baseball stadium definetly needs to be upgraded. Also the scoreboard is absoultely garbage and they do a bad job of showing replays and that other message board on the other endzone reminds me of a minor league baseball team. Seriously upgrade that stuff my god.

I was row 10 in the North Endzone yesterday at the game and I got so sick of the MSU fans complaining about the calls that the refs were making. Then at the end of the game a fan behind us was screaming at Mike Martin calling him a motherf***** and saying that you talked trash coming out of high school and then you never beat us. I never knew how bad MSU fans were until I went to that game yesterday they were terrible.

Yesterday was my first NCAA football game not in the Big House.  I sat with a couple Michigan friends and Spartan friends in the student section.

I felt like I was in a toy stadium.  I suppose I'm spoiled by Michigan Stadium, but Spartan stadium sucks in [my biased] comparison.  The video boards board (I hesitate to even call them/it that) were (was) terrible, and of course I couldn't see any replays on all of those questionable Spartan hits.  The student section faces only a scoreboard and a literal shit ton of advertisement.  Would I like some Coke with that late hit?  Sure.

Did I mention there was no color, like, anywhere?  I felt like I was in an asylum, or -- wait for it -- a prison.  I guess they want their convict players to feel right at home when they play in Spartan Stadium (too soon?  Ah, hell, whatever).

The girl behind me who was heckling me for wearing my maize sweatshirt wore a green and white hat that simply said "Play Dirty."  That about sums up East Lansing for me.

Things went swimingly until the second half.  As I was walking down to the concourse to use the bathroom I was kicked in the back and almost knocked down the stairs.  I turned around to the guy with a "Seriously?" [insert WTF? look here] and he threw a punch at me.  I approached the three (they need three at every entrance?) police officers by where I was sitting and told them what happened/who hit me.  They said I provoked them because I was wearing maize and refused to do anything about it.

After the game (and Michigan's spectacularly bad loss) I was walking to my car (which received a ticket despite NO signage designating a no parking area) when I was approached by an old(ish) woman (I'm thinking mid-50s).  She was shitfaced and she spat in my face.  I, being the classy representative of U-M I am, said "Feel better now?"

Also, I hate East Lansing.  Please, someone burn it down.  Lord knows I would've but, heck, they've probably already beaten me to it /insertcouchburninghere.

and I know it was windy, but it was still nice of Meijer to give out free plastic bags for everyone in the stadium to throw towards the field.  Made for a nice atmosphere I would imagine.
