Spare me your Hoke hate

By Professor Greenberg — January 11th, 2011 at 4:23 PM — 43 comments
Yes, he is unproven. But has had only two head coaching jobs at subpar programs and turned them both around. He went to a 2 win SDSU team and in two years took them to their first bowl win in 40 years. Impressive by any standard. But to me what is most important is that he loves Michigan, and I believe he will work tirelessly to turn us around and prove the doubters wrong.

If our coach is Hoke, you should support him. That includes not agonizing over his hire on a website that fans, players and potential commits read.

Go blue.

Where that support was. Everyone keeps saying support this coach whoever it is but some of those people didn't support RR. And then people act like we can't be upset about RR getting fired losing all our recruits and possibly are best player among others on current roster for a coach who has done nothing compared to the one we had?? Do me a favor and wake up people smell the Juan Valdez.

You can be upset, I am too, still wanted RR myself. I agree that it's obvious a significant portion didn't accept him from the get-go.

I'm just saying that's it's like crying over spilt milk, there's no turning back. Hoke (if it comes to be) deserves a shot for the same reason RR did: he's the UM coach. Let's not make the same mistake twice.

You are correct that RR's lack of support may have doomed him from the start. It was disgusting how the community treated him, and the arrogance involved. But I for one will not do that to another coach. Whoever he is needs to be successful for our program to stop this downward spiral.

I will say that we have a very slim chance to win on a national level with Hoke if he doesn't loosen up on his anti-basketball on grass offensive philosophy. I'm glad all you Hoke Haters are looking at this deeply. To a man all the former players love him. They will play their hearts out for him. They will play with character and toughness He will respect Michigan traditions, rivalries and standards. He is going to recruit the Midwest and go toe to toe with OSU in Ohio for kids. He will have the full support of every player who played for him including Brady, Hutchinson, Woodson, Griese, Steele etc.

In a nutshell he is everything one wants from a Michigan coach. Unless you are the same "fan" who was crying for Lloyd Carr's head in 2004.

People are forgetting that Hoke took FIVE years to turn around Ball State. Then promptly lost to Buffalo when he was 12-0. Then lost his bowl game. I see every reason to be concerned about this hire if it happens.

We lost out on a coach with a NC ring and a 62-17 record. I know this is total rumor, but how do we know Carr doesn't have any say in this? I mean, it's no secret he and Les weren't the best of friends and he left when Carr was hired. Are we being run by a cronie crew? Hoke cannot be our best candidate. DB even said he had been contacted by others. There is something that just doesn't make sense. We are looking like a joke nationally.

The fact that he went 12-0 in any conference shows that the man can coach.

And it's not like he was coaching Alabama when he lost to Buffalo. He was coaching freakin Ball State.

Question: What makes you think that Rosenberg and the funky bunch won't turn again? Remember Lloyd circa "The Horror".

Believe me, by tomorrow most here will turn the focus on to more pressing matters like Tom V and the commits. (Please Lord, let us keep Delithium.

I promise this time...I won't do it ever again...I just won't.)

Have you ever come across the parent out in public that looks at their kid with a warning or timeout and uses words which sort of sound like, "Timmy I swear you

better not do that again, so help me..."? You glance over at Timmy's face and he's looking like "What the F if I do, Huh!".

Just say'in.

My hope is now with Hoke but this process and how it unfolded was very telling. This has no positive spin at the moment.

I think the general frustration is more about Brandon than Hoke. If DB believed in Hoke all along, he should have been clear and decisive about that. Why dither? Now Hoke looks like a consolation prize. This does him no favors, especially with NSD just around the corner. And it certainly doesn't inspire much fan enthusiasm, confidence, or unity.
