Support for a coach who came in cupboard bare completely changed the entire system went from 3-5-7 wins would have at least 9 wins next year and beyond would have been great?????????????? People have a right to be pissed, this is all because of M arrogance. Open your eyes.
Spare me your Hoke hate
If our coach is Hoke, you should support him. That includes not agonizing over his hire on a website that fans, players and potential commits read.
Doesn't give you the license to not support Hoke. I was hoping for someone of higher stature too but he's entirely right that we need to give the new coach 100% support. It wont be Hoke's fault we didn't get a bigger name.
Where that support was. Everyone keeps saying support this coach whoever it is but some of those people didn't support RR. And then people act like we can't be upset about RR getting fired losing all our recruits and possibly are best player among others on current roster for a coach who has done nothing compared to the one we had?? Do me a favor and wake up people smell the Juan Valdez.
You can be upset, I am too, still wanted RR myself. I agree that it's obvious a significant portion didn't accept him from the get-go.
I'm just saying that's it's like crying over spilt milk, there's no turning back. Hoke (if it comes to be) deserves a shot for the same reason RR did: he's the UM coach. Let's not make the same mistake twice.
I supported RR, and will support Hoke if he is hired.
You are correct that RR's lack of support may have doomed him from the start. It was disgusting how the community treated him, and the arrogance involved. But I for one will not do that to another coach. Whoever he is needs to be successful for our program to stop this downward spiral.
How many teams starting 8 fr, so and walk-ons on d finished with a better record?
How many teams starting a so qb, RS fr lt, RS fr lg, so tb, and so slots finished better?
Rich's team never got to take the field as upper classmen.
Lloyd's last few teams, who happened to be coached by RR, had real issues.
The support for RR from the masses was lost when he could only muster 6 wins in the Big Ten and 1win against MSU, Wisc OSU PSU and Iowa. If DB thought we would win 9 games next year RR would still be coach.
Let it go.
After he had a hissy fit after Rich was fired, he swore to never return. It didn't last a week. I don't think "let it go" is in his vocabulary.
On my next comment, obviously I was upset/still am. You guys can continue to live in the dark if you choose. Goodbye Denard.
I'm with ya on Hoke. Seems pretty passionate about being here from statements he has made. Don't know why everyone is so willing to be behind coaches who don't want to be here but won't give Hoke the time of day or respect for what he has done with other programs.
Look at Ball State's close to last season and their record this season. That's called a fluke year, not an impressive job turning around a program.
give me the job.
Loving a school is not a qualification at this level of athletics. This dude is unproven, no matter how you slice it. Can you honestly say this dude is an upgrade over RR? Don't forget to take into consideration the fact that the most electrifying player in the history of this damn school will almost assuredly transfer.
But that's cool...I'll pretend like it's all hunky dory, even though I'm punching a thousand babies in the face on the inside.
This is the worst hire at a major FBS program since Gene Chizik. I wonder if people will boo him at the airport like they did at Auburn?
That winning a national championship in your second year as coach makes it a great hire.
I think you missed some sarcasm there.
That's not sarcasm. At the time the Chizik hire was not a good one because he had no success at a smaller program and they hire him. Many fans didn't like that hire at all.
I would argue that we are not Auburn nor should we ever aspire to be. Auburn pushed out Tuberville, so their boosters could get back doing what they do best and paying for top talent. Chizik was hired to be their puppet. Let's not use Auburn's turnaround as any kind of example
Of course we aren't Auburn, we pride ourselves on doing things the right way. However, Tuberville was fired in part because his incompetent position coaches torpedoed his (offensive) coordinators.
Eh. I'm not sold on Chizek yet as a long term coach. He deserves credit for getting an letting Newton loose (however he may have gotten him...), but without Newton, I don't think that team is any better than the 8-5 they were last year. Maybe a game better because Fairly had a Graham type of breakout year.
I'm wrong but even if Hoke is successful and wins the big ten, goes to the rose bowl a few years from now are we going to be competing strongly on a national level? Are we going to compete for national titles? I'm sorry but if we had kept RR we would have in a couple years from now. But I know most of you are content with winning big ten and getting smashed in the rose bowl. I'm not and that's why I'm pissed. Get mad at me all you want, this whole situation has divided the fan base way more than before. And Dave Brandon and all arrogant boosters, etc. have screwed us for a long time now.
I wouldn't discount Hoke quite yet. We haven't even seen his product on the field. While I agree with you on the RR part, that's behind us now and we can't so much about it. I will say that we have a very slim chance to win on a national level with Hoke if he doesn't loosen up on his anti-basketball on grass offensive philosophy. Any team needs diversity and flexibility to win.
I suppose I just expected more from Brandon. I can support our head coach while still despising the firing of Rodriguez and the pathetic debacle of a coaching search that our AD has performed.
I have plenty of Hoke hate to spare. If you need some let me know.
I'm glad all you Hoke Haters are looking at this deeply. To a man all the former players love him. They will play their hearts out for him. They will play with character and toughness He will respect Michigan traditions, rivalries and standards. He is going to recruit the Midwest and go toe to toe with OSU in Ohio for kids. He will have the full support of every player who played for him including Brady, Hutchinson, Woodson, Griese, Steele etc.
In a nutshell he is everything one wants from a Michigan coach. Unless you are the same "fan" who was crying for Lloyd Carr's head in 2004.
And that helps us on the field... how?
Well since RR's recruiting classes have filled the program with as much talent as Florida and were on track to contend for a National Championship next year Hoke should have no trouble on the field at all
That didn't support RR when he was here. If they didn't then they can go to hell when they rush to support Hoke
Can I borrow your crystal ball Ken?
What's your address?
People are forgetting that Hoke took FIVE years to turn around Ball State. Then promptly lost to Buffalo when he was 12-0. Then lost his bowl game. I see every reason to be concerned about this hire if it happens.
We lost out on a coach with a NC ring and a 62-17 record. I know this is total rumor, but how do we know Carr doesn't have any say in this? I mean, it's no secret he and Les weren't the best of friends and he left when Carr was hired. Are we being run by a cronie crew? Hoke cannot be our best candidate. DB even said he had been contacted by others. There is something that just doesn't make sense. We are looking like a joke nationally.
Hoke didn't coach the bowl game, but yeah your point still stands.
To freakin Buffalo
Your new football overlord.
Whoever the coach is. Go Blue!
Overall record as a head coach 47-50.
Listen guy, o'friend, o'yell'a, relax Francis. Jeff Garland whoops I mean The Hoke & Toke will 'shirley' have a shot with the posters
and fans of this board. It's the abhorrent attitudes and sadistic folk outside of this jurisdiction whom you need to worry about.
The problem if any will not germinate here @ Mgoblog. After all, we have mods and they have nukes, votes, and lockdown mode at their disposable. This we like!
Question: What makes you think that Rosenberg and the funky bunch won't turn again? Remember Lloyd circa "The Horror".
Believe me, by tomorrow most here will turn the focus on to more pressing matters like Tom V and the commits. (Please Lord, let us keep Delithium.
I promise this time...I won't do it ever again...I just won't.)
Have you ever come across the parent out in public that looks at their kid with a warning or timeout and uses words which sort of sound like, "Timmy I swear you
better not do that again, so help me..."? You glance over at Timmy's face and he's looking like "What the F if I do, Huh!".
My hope is now with Hoke but this process and how it unfolded was very telling. This has no positive spin at the moment.
DB's unite the fanbase is a tall order!
P.S. However, the lock on the pitchfork cabinet will remain open.
I think the general frustration is more about Brandon than Hoke. If DB believed in Hoke all along, he should have been clear and decisive about that. Why dither? Now Hoke looks like a consolation prize. This does him no favors, especially with NSD just around the corner. And it certainly doesn't inspire much fan enthusiasm, confidence, or unity.
