Spanellis is joining Drew Henson, Brandent Englemon and Zoltan Mesko as Wolverines to receive this honor. Among the other four recipients this year, two are at Princeton, one at Phoenix College and the other was a 3* TE who ended up at Stanford. Seems like good company to keep.

It isn't just the grades. You can get great marks, and still be a jerk.
Spanellis spent time working and volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, committing 50 hours of his time to help build homes for those less fortunate, and he participated in a weekly bible study group throughout his high school experience.
Spanellis is a high character guy who does things apart from and beyond the football field and the academic classroom. Those are the kind of guys you want on the team.

That's nice, but he's no Weston Steelhammer (one of the 2013 recipients). That sounds a D&D character name.
Also past recipients: Drew Henson, Brandenton Englemon, Zoltan Mesko, Andrew Luck and Josh Rosen.
