I see they said that salary cap was a likely cause:

Mesko's salary -- he was due to earn $1.323 million this season -- also likely played a factor. Don't be surprised if Mesko catches on elsewhere before the season is through.

the pats picked up a good punter in this year's draft for about 1/4 of what they were paying mesko.

the emperor is not done though -- he'll be kicking soon in some other space.

Yeah, the salary makes sense. Could they not have renegotiated though, instead of cutting him? I suppose Mesko feels like someone will be willing to pay the price for him, but he's a legit punter.

but the rookie punter was better and was more consistent. Zoltan can either boom a punt with great hang time or he shank it or boomed it with zero hang time.

I bet the Pats are tired of seeing the inconsistencies from Zoltan.

In other Michigan-NFL news, the Toledo Blade expects Jordan Kovacs to sign onto the Dolphins' practice squad once he clears waivers.

Also, I hope the Patriots realize that one does not simply cut the Space Emperor. The people - what remains of civilization anyway -  of Altair VI can tell you why this is so.

Mesko is a good punter, he should find work.  What happened to Molk...hopefully he still gets a shot.  On the positive side, Junior Hemingway will stick with the Chefs.

First and foremost, I want to thank the New England Patriots for everything they have done for me. I have nothing but love in my heart as I depart this great organization. Mr. Kraft, the coaches, the strength staff, the trainers, the media personnel, the marketing department, the rest of the amazing staff members at Gillette, and especially my teammates…THANK YOU for all that you have given and have done for me. I want to say that I see the silver lining in things now more than ever, and am a true believer that things DO happen for a reason. This goes out to anyone that will ever come across a mere bump in the road; be thankful, be positive, because there’s a deeper purpose of WHY things happen that we may not yet, or may never come to understand. Just believe. I will miss New England, and more than anything, I’ll be missing the smiles on those kids whom I visited and acted like a goofball in front of. It was ALL worth it. God bless.
