Southfield lawyer offering services to Mike Weber, pro bono

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

Apparently Detroit-area lawyer, Neil Rockind, has offered his service to Mike Weber pro bono if OSU does not grant him a release.

He has been tweeting all about the story.

Someone close to the Weber family needs to let them know that I will volunteer my services to help him get out of LOI

But keep in mind, if Harbaugh wanted more time with recruits he would have left the 49ers earlier, knowing how important relationships are. He would have resigned. But, to keep face - the door open in the nfl - he needed to finish his duties.
In the sporting world, everyone including coaches are looking to network. The kids get dumped on. It's sad.

It happens more often in baseball at the collegiate level. These kids give verbal commitments - (baseball has much less scholarships- 11.7 ) these college coaches offer 5x the allowance, let the season play out and then award the select few the partial scholarship. In the meantime, the athlete is loyal to the school and let's other schools know he's Committed. Losing out on other opportunities.

You certainly are valid with your points and opinion. Go Blue.

He makes some good points on his twitter. Minors can disaffirm a contract when they reach 18 and osu most certainly did get his signature under false pretenses. If it went to court weber would easily win.

This is so dumb. Lawyer obviously wants publicity.

The entire situation is shitty, but it's not like the world is collapsing around Weber. He is still going to play football for defending national champions and will have a great opportunity to expand his craft. Honestly, this is getting way too overblown and some Michigan fans are acting like scorned exes in denial.

Is the Cass Tech coaching staff is going to much more inclined to turn their kids away from the Arm Pit in the future. I don't really care about getting Weber, JH will do just fine in the 2016 class. This incident will only help Michigan retain the best in-state talent in the future.

Dame Webb has a very realistic chance to start this year, either at corner or nickel. It's basically him and Gaeron Conley as the two favorites for those two positions, especially now that Reeves is gone.

As for Weber, he'll get his carries if he's good. Samuel got carries as a true frosh. Zeke got carries as a true frosh. Hell, even Dunn got carries as a true frosh.

Regardless of Weber's future, this will be good for us in the the near recruiting future. Unfortunately I expect it will settle down by the fall.

This kid could have picked a hundred other places to play football after he decided it wasn't going to be at Michigan, and he picked Ohio State. Do we really need to know any more than that?

If anyone is interested, here is Rockind's background from his own firm's site - LINK

Highlights include:

As a special prosecutor, he handled the most complex and high profile cases in the office, including but not limited to People v Kevorkian (the prosecution of famed assisted suicide advocate Jack Kevorkian)

...as well as...

In 1997, Rockind made a change: he pursued a career as a criminal defense lawyer. In private practice, Rockind has handled countless high profile cases. He was the legal commentator for WDIV (NBC) and had a recurring role on a legal news series for WJBK (Fox 2).

...and even...

He has represented clients in matters ranging from drunk driving to complex federal cases. He has represented lead defendants in cases involving no notoriety whatsoever and others, such as the infamous Basketbrawl (Piston v Pacer) assault case

He'd likely have redshirted behind Green, Smith & Isaac.  True, he may have played, but the idea of him redshirting isn't far-fetched.

So try to sell him on transferring to UM, sitting out a year as he would have likely done anyways, and move on as if nothing happened.

It is in our best interest as UM fans to see this go to trial. When John Fox and other Bears staff gets subpoenaed and testifies that Urban knew Drayton was leaving in advance of signing day, it will make him and his dirty program look even worse.
