SOTS Reactions

Submitted by SBo on
I personally thought the SOTS was awesome and made signing day a lot more fun... Or that could just be Gary. However, some of the moments were very, very cringey. Sometimes it felt like the presenters didn't know anything about the recruits, even their name. But overall it was a great event for Michigan.

What do you guys think? Should we continue this?

only things they need to improve is fix mics/audio flow and have every recruit sit on the same couch man. Peters and mitchell all by their lonesome selves in the chairs.

They really should just have the commits come out for their part, get recognized, and then go backstage or back in the audience with their family. That was my only complaint. You're right, Peters, in particular, looked extremely bored. Can't blame the kid, but it's not a great look for Michigan.

The parade of celebrities and especially NFL people was awesome. I love that some of them have no obvious connection to Michigan at all. The whole thing just seemed fun in a totally silly way.

This only going to get better.  I mean, Harbaugh just sort of created something out of thin air and a vague idea.  Equally impressive is the ability to assemble a cross-functional team to pull it off.  Not bad for a first shot at something completely new and untried.

Maybe a couple of teleprompter issues and some guest speakers who couldn't pronounce recruits' names, but overall it was pretty cool, IMO. I really thought Lou Holtz stole the show, with his cheesy humor and effusive praise for Harbaugh and Michigan.

Very Awkward.

Genuine and real. But just...very awkward as well.

They need to hire me as a director and performance coach.

Would love if they continued to do it in the future, and infused it with some Michigan football history and stories and talks.

Fun and weird and surreal. Just needs to have an artistic director swoop in and tighten up the edges, trim the frays and get everyone on point.

Post-Modern to say the least. Very Post-Modern!!!!

Basically, the definition of 21st century media. We're all going back to being amateurs again.

I get it- Jim's the guy but the best line I laughed at was the guys who called it "Jimmy-Palooza-2016".

Seriously though, very good for the first go around.  I want a  little more emphasis on the kids.  I did not like them sitting in the background.  If it's all about them they need to be sitting at the front.

I actually thought Shanahan was great! I agree Holtz stole the show but I really admired McShay's professionalism. It is not easy to analyze tape with loud music blasting and thousands of people staring at you and the person your evaluating sitting right there. I thought McShay did a great job.

I thought it'd be kinda forced and lame. I tuned in just to take a peek and wound up watching the whole thing. It was actually fun, and the interplay of the presenters worked surprisingly well.

comprehension that Harbaugh got Jeter and Tom Brady sitting on the same couch with their recruits. I mean...Good grief.

I watched it and thought it was great.  Weird, quirky and totally innovative, just like our weird, quirky and innovative coach.  Just watch the rest of the country copy what we have started.  Recruiting will never be the same.....

Yes not a surprise.  We have 2 open spots and most think they go to Vic and Asiasi.

We could add a 3rd if you grayshirt someone but doesn't look like it is happening with Boss.

So we should expect 2 more today.

p.s. We added two top 100 players inc #1 overall and fell from 3rd to 6th overall in 247 compositive. Sheesh.  Ole Miss somehow has 3 5* - most in the country right now.  What a joke.  Thought we'd finish top 5 with Gary but looks like 6 or so.  Still cool.

Lou Holtz was a freaking home run.

I thought the production value was good - a few glitches but it looked well filmed and it was smart to do it on Youtube which can handle a live event like that easily.  I know it was also on Jeter's site but when I tried to look at it at 11:30 there were errors.

I think recruits will love it - these are 17 year old kids and some got to meet and sit with guys like Jeter and Brady.

It was interesting to see the connections of some of these people like Ric frigging Flair was a Michigan recruit in 1968!

I liked the format - Shannahan was a bit dry and McShay sort of repetative but asking him to analyze HS recruits is difficult.  He was needed in terms of the structure.

My only concern is if you repeat it who do you bring next year?  You had the wow factor this year as it was all new so other than Woodson not sure who else new you would bring and I dont think you just bring back all the same people.  Plus this was for a specific charity.

But based on my fears going into it, it was well structured and made sense while being fun.  If you redo it you need Holtz to sign on for a decade.

p.s. I was wondering where the hell Tirico was and he was apparently backstage as the Channel 7 sports guy tweeted him showing Gary's interview on ESPN to Harbaugh when Jim went off stage for a second.
