Sorta OT: Eric Berry Heisman Video

Submitted by dmccoy on
Well over a decade later, and Vols fans still can't get over Woodson winning the Heisman over Peyton Manning. Relatively entertaining video overall, but... Really? Still? Woodson played on offense, defense, and special teams and completely dominated games from a position where few, if any, players have the ability to do so. Hey Peyton, if you wanted the Heisman, try beating Florida. Woodson lifted Michigan over its rival with a punt return for a touchdown and a key redzone interception. Peyton's team couldn't get it done and the voters couldn't help but consider Woodson's play against OSU. BTW, the hit on Knowshon Moreno is awesome. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/thelife/news/story?page=goingviral/090909

Moreover, with highlights from last year, why is this even relevant? They should at least wait until the guy has an awesome game against a decent opponent.

I think it's rather ironic that Tennessee is the team that has a potential two-way, primarily defensive guy vying for the Heisman (to the point that they've started campaigning for him), given that they were so pissed about Peyton not winning the thing. Here's one person who's happy to not have to look at Fulmer on the Vols sidelines anymore!

Eric Berry will only be close to winning if Tennessee wins the SEC. If it went by just stats, Kevin Smith should of won it.

Must've dropped the "shirtless dudes with chains in front of a Lamborghini" theme. Gotta love the "Gave it to Woodson and now it's payback" bit.

As much as I am getting bored with hearing of the Eric Berry for Heisman campaign too, I must admit he is one hell of an athlete. I traveled to Tennessee last fall to watch the game vs Northern Illinois and he was very impressive. I don't remember stats but there was one big INT. He is involved in every play no matter where on the field he is. I went back a little over two weeks ago to watch the Tennessee scrimmage game and just the enthusiasm this kid bring is contagious. I was even more so impressed by him as a person when in the second half, the defensive starters were running stairs. He had already made one trip around and was on his ssecond trip when we went down to try to get a picture. There was a kid there, 8 years old or so, that asked if he could sign a helmet for him. Not only did he stop to at least acknowledge the kid, he made the comment that to do so he would need to hide behind the partition wall because if his coach saw him he would be in some serious trouble. It's refreshing these days to see a nationally known athlete has not let the attention shown on him change his promise he has openly made that he will never deny a fan, especially a child, an autograph or a moment of his time. Is he a Heisman winning player, probably not given the fact that his team will not be contending for a NC, but having seen him in person twice I do admit he's very deserving of all of the praise he's gotten.
