Sometimes in the morning

Submitted by JonSobel on

I am petrified and can't move, awake, but cannot open my eyes

And the weight is crushing down on my lungs I know I can't breathe and hope someone will save me this time.

And your mother's still calling you insane and high swearin' it's different this time

And you tell her to give in to the demons that possess her, that God never blessed her insides.

And you hang up the phone and feel badly for upsetting things, crawl back into bed to dream of a time

When your heart was open wide and you loved things just because like the sick and the dying.....

And sometimes when you're on, you're really fucking on, and your friends they sing along and they love you

But the lows are so extreme that the good seems fucking cheap, and it teases you for weeks in its absence

But you'll fight and you'll make it through, you'll fake it if you have to, and you'll show up for work with a smile

You'll better and you'll be smarter and more grown up and a better daughter or son and a real good friend

You'll be awake. You'll be alert. You'll be positive though it hurts. And you'll laugh and embrace all your friends

You'll be a real good listener you'll be honest you'll be brave

You'll be handsome

and you'll be beautiful.

You'll be happy

Your ship may be coming in. You're weak but not giving in to the cries and the wails of the valley below.

Your ship may be coming in. You're weak but not giving in, and you'll fight it.

You'll go out fightin all of em.

Go Blue! Be brave! Be beautiful! Beat Ohio State!

I don't know what to say, really. Three minutes to the biggest battle of our professional lives. All comes down to today, and either, we heal as a team, or we're gonna crumble. Inch by inch, play by play. Until we're finished.

We're in hell right now, gentlemen. Believe me. And, we can stay here, get the shit kicked out of us, or we can fight our way back into the light. We can climb outta hell... one inch at a time.

Now I can't do it for ya, I'm too old. I look around, I see these young faces and I think, I mean, I've made every wrong choice a middle-aged man can make. I, uh, I've pissed away all my money, believe it or not.

I chased off anyone who's ever loved me. And lately, I can't even stand the face I see in the mirror. You know, when you get old, in life, things get taken from you. I mean, that's... that's... that's a part of life.

But, you only learn that when you start losin' stuff. You find out life's this game of inches, so is football. Because in either game - life or football - the margin for error is so small. I mean, one half a step too late or too early and you don't quite make it. One half second too slow, too fast and you don't quite catch it.

The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break of the game, every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone else around us to pieces for that inch.

We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when add up all those inches, that's gonna make the fucking difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!

I'll tell you this, in any fight it's the guy whose willing to die whose gonna win that inch. And I know, if I'm gonna have any life anymore it's because I'm still willing to fight and die for that inch, because that's what living is, the six inches in front of your face.

Now I can't make you do it. You've got to look at the guy next to you, look into his eyes. Now I think ya going to see a guy who will go that inch with you. Your gonna see a guy who will sacrifice himself for this team, because he knows when it comes down to it your gonna do the same for him.

That's a team, gentlemen, and either, we heal, now, as a team, or we will die as individuals. That's football guys, that's all it is. Now, what are you gonna do?

BEAT OHIO STATE!!

this just gets me thinking about all the inspirational quotes from sports movies over the decades....things to be remembered by....the kind of speech that makes you tingle and gets you pumped up....thats what that song gets me thinking and feeling. And boy do I think we are going to come out tomorrow and hit tOSU in the mouth. Our boys know how important this is and they definitely have a shitton of pent up rage ready to be unleashed.

-cant wait to see Mike Martin blow through the line and clock Pryor

-also can't wait to see Pryor throw some picks or see some flat out amazing play from UMich, whether on D or O

Bluto: Hey! What's all this laying around stuff? Why are you all still laying around here for?
Stork: What the hell are we supposed to do, ya moron? We're all expelled. There's nothing to fight for anymore.
D-Day: [to Bluto] Let it go. War's over, man. Wormer dropped the big one.
Bluto: What? Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!
Otter: [to Boon] Germans?
Boon: Forget it, he's rolling.
Bluto: And it ain't over now. 'Cause when the goin' gets tough...
[thinks hard of something to say]
Bluto: The tough get goin'! Who's with me? Let's go!
[Bluto runs out, alone; then returns]
Bluto: What the fuck happened to the Delta I used to know? Where's the spirit? Where's the guts, huh? This could be the greatest night of our lives, but you're gonna let it be the worst. "Ooh, we're afraid to go with you Bluto, we might get in trouble." Well just kiss my ass from now on! Not me! I'm not gonna take this. Wormer, he's a dead man! Marmalard, dead! Niedermeyer...
Otter: Dead! Bluto's right. Psychotic... but absolutely right. We gotta take these bastards. Now we could do it with conventional weapons, but that could take years and cost millions of lives. No, I think we have to go all out. I think that this situation absolutely requires a really futile and stupid gesture be done on somebody's part!
Bluto: We're just the guys to do it.
D-Day: [stands up] Yeah, I agree. Let's go get 'em.
Boon: Let's do it.
Bluto: [shouting] "Let's do it"!
[all of the Deltas stand up and run out with Bluto]

I'm going to go with the movie "Miracle"

..."If we played them 10 times they might win 9, but not this game, NOT tonight. Tonight, WE are the greatest football team in the world."

"We want the Big Ten championship and we're gonna win it as a Team. They can throw out all those great backs, and great quarterbacks, and great defensive players, throughout the country and in this conference, but there's gonna be one Team that's gonna play solely as a Team. No man is more important than The Team. No coach is more important than The Team. The Team, The Team, The Team, and if we think that way, all of us, everything that you do, you take into consideration what effect does it have on my Team? Because you can go into professional football, you can go anywhere you want to play after you leave here. You will never play for a Team again. You'll play for a contract. You'll play for this. You'll play for that. You'll play for everything except the team, and think what a great thing it is to be a part of something that is, The Team. We're gonna win it. We're gonna win the championship again because we're gonna play as team, better than anybody else in this conference, we're gonna play together as a team. We're gonna believe in each other, we're not gonna criticize each other, we're not gonna talk about each other, we're gonna encourage each other. And when we play as a team, when the old season is over, you and I know, it's gonna be Michigan again, Michigan."

You guys can have the all the movies scenes performed by actors and written by screenwriters you want. I'll take the one above, given from the heart, unrehersed any day of the week.

We may have gotten beat (infrequently) under Bo but we were almost never flat. That man could flat out motivate.

One of my favorite movie motivational moments came from the movie "Hoosiers". My basketball team in school kind of used it as a parallel of our own team. However, I think it's fitting in this case. It comes from the locker room scene before the state championship game. The coach asks for the reverend for a few words.

It goes:

And David put his hand in the bag and took out a stone and slung it, and struck the Philistine on the head, and he fell to the ground.

GO BLUE!
