Some unfortunate injury news coming

Submitted by umbig11 on

TOS is going to release an update later today on WR Drake Harris. There is a real chance that he misses the entire season again. I will update the thread with any concrete evidence later today. I feel really bad for the kid. I am sure he wants to see the field.

Edit: Rivals. Two mods chimed in on a thread about the UCLA WR transfer. Some are hoping the transfer takes a look at us and this came up in the discussion.

I've experienced both. The pop I felt in the hammy hurt really bad and took nearly three months to completely heal. Sciatica. Oh lord, that's much worse, with not only lower back pain aching but also pain all the way down the leg. I have bad memories of driving a stick shift with mild sciatica. Fortunately, I was able to heal through yoga and acupuncture.

Yep, been there. What made my hamstring tears worse was the fact that I'm supposedly the one in five people whose sciatic nerves goes through their thigh instead of behind it (IIRC, I've tried to forget all of this), meaning piriformis is just about the worst thing ever. I spent like three years trying to shake all of that shit, and the sciatica still comes back from time to time.

Fuck. It. All.

I'm another of those 1 in 5.  Had piriformis syndrome about 10 years ago.  At least then the pain was pretty much localized to my ass.  When that nerve pain gets down to your ankle it just won't go away.  Not really any tissue to squeeze and try to alleviate the pain.

My L5 is wearing out, so I'm getting surgery as soon as my team's tennis season is over.  So hard to coach right now because I can't really do much from an athletic standpoint.

I've had several grade I and a  couple grade II hamstring tears, as well as a grade III tear of the calf.

1) They're super easy to re-injure, due to a true inability to tell when fully healed.

2) It heals (if left alone) to be just as strong as before and doesn't increase re-injury risk.

The other sight? Rivals board members frequently use this acronym to refer to the Scout site and probably vice versa. I guess because mentioning the other recruiting site was verboten. I've never seen it used around these parts, though.

This has to be so hard for him.

It does make you wonder if the same thing would happen playing basketball or if it's the wear and tear of football.

Regardless, hope he recovers and is able to follow his dreams.

Just is weird to me in general.  Hey, I heard from one site that another site has an update on Drake Harris and it could be bad.  I'll update when there is actual news.  I think it should probably be deleted until actual news comes out, or at least a link to something.

The poor chap just seems plagued...like he's offended the angry drake Harris hamstring crippling god.

Well, hope he can take a medical, did he redshirt last year or medical?

I don't think that's what "medical hardship" means. Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't medical hardships what it's called when a player basically waives their eligibility to play sports for injury reasons and in turn gets to stay on scholarshp in order to complete their degree.

Basically, if true, I think this is actually suggesting that Harris's career is close to being over.

but the term seems to be used a lot in the context of medical redshirts, from what I can tell.

I'm skimming, though.

It's really hard to find ncaa rules on the internet.  Anyways, apparently the term "medical redshirt" doesn't actually exist.

They're called "hardship waivers."

I think the exact term Henson used was "medical hardship," though.  Which might be the actual term for retiring a kid from the sport.

I think that's why Henson is saying that a transfer might be in the offing if the staff asks him to take a medical hardship. That he doesn't want to end his career, but the staff is telling him he should.

But for now, I'm assuming this is all speculation. Then again, he's already been out for two straight years and even a "tweak" can't possibly be a good sign. I would sadly not be surprised if his career never gets back on track.
