Some hate developing towards Denard Robinson already?

Submitted by dieseljr32 on

With any player that performs well and gets a ton of publicity and hype for such performances there tends to be some sort of anger or disgust towards that player (ex: Tim Tebow).

Obviously, Denard Robinson has been tremendously good these first two games.  So good that ESPN is bringing out the hype train saying Denard is the Heisman front-runner.  A group on Facebook has claimed tomorrow as "Shoes Untied like Denard Robinson Day."  While I was looking at this group, I noticed some comments that belittle Denard saying he's too stupid to tie his cleats and others claim they cannot wait for him to start playing terribly so they jump off of the bandwagon.

Why such hate just two games into the year?  Personally, I don't think he will be able to keep this torrid pace (hopefully he can though) but I just don't understand why there is hate already builiding up.  I find it kind of sad because he is a great person, always with a smile on his face, and extremely humble.

Here is the facebook group: http://www.facebook.com/?ref=home#!/event.php?eid=144149168960694&index=1

I live in TN where most people still hold a grudge over the whole "Manning not winning the Heisman" thing.  My wife and I were both sporting our Michigan gear today during a walk in the park and we were stopped three times by people that all said something like "That's one heck of a quaterback you guys got there".  He may not keep up the pace but it is good to be hearing good things from random watchers.

"It's an insult to Robinson to compare him to Pat White."

Though I agree, enough with the P. White comparisons.  Also, I happen to agree that Roundtree should have caught that ball in the end zone.  Tough throw, perfectly delivered and catchable.  A couple of other drops (Stonum/Koger?).  Denard's numbers could have been even more unbelievable.

All of the haters are just pissed off that he's not on their team.  Sorry haters you're going to hear Denards name quite a bit over the next few years, so learn to love it.

Yeah when the rival fans say "No way he can make it through the season playing like that!" They mean "Please please please don't let him make it to our game playing like that"

People will always have a problem with someone making a sudden change to the college football landscape..or have been at the top the entire time like Tim Tebow.

I don't think the hatred for Denard will ever reach the level it did for Tebow and other similar players.

Tebow is also a genuinly good person whom I have a lot of respect for as a player and a man. That and his skills as a player led to a lot of hype, and so people got sick of hearing about him if they weren't a Gator fan. If the Denard train keeps rolling, you better believe it will reach Tebow levels, and anybody here who is a Tebow hater should be seriously reevaluating their thoughts about good players and good people who get hype at least mostly deserving of it.

Does anyone have a better resolution of this picture somewhere?

I feel like this would be a perfect haters gonna hate for Denard, but It's be nice if it was a bit bigger.

Rival fans have seen what has happened to UCONN and ND. They have seen what happens to victims of a Dilithium attack. It fills them with dread. For they know that once stricken, Dilithium poisoning acts quickly. There is no known antidote, and it is always fatal. It's speed and lethality are well documented.

So if you were a rival fan, having already witnessed Death by Dilithium... knowing that your beloved team is going to suffer a similar fate... knowing that you are powerless against the force of nature that is coming... you would also be angry, bitter, and filled with hate... you would also know fear.

Oh yes, you would know fear.

Saw the comment you were reffering to. Funny because the poster had a pic of denard celebrating the unconn win as his profile pic. Why bash the guy and then glorify him at the same time? Just one of the crazies I guess

Actually I never hated Tim Tebow.  I don't agree with his politics, but hey, he's got an opinion just like everyone else.   He was a great college player and he's a good kid.

What I hated was the way TV analysts gushed over him.  "Spend five minutes with him and you're a better person".  It's that crap.

I don't hate Blake Griffin's parents, they seem like nice people.  I just hate the fact that CBS had to show them every 10 f'ing seconds in that Michigan game.

But I do hate Coach K.   They gush over him on TV, never telling you what an absolute PRICK that guy really is.

Let 'em hate.   I don't care about "them".

I'm going to bed.  My tooth hurts.

it would be a sign that we weren't winning games.

I have news for people: the natural order of things since 1969 is that EVERYBODY outside of the UM fan base hates Michigan—the institution, the football program, the coaches, and the players. Everybody else in the Big Ten loathed Bo all through his career, because they suffered so many epic beatdowns at his hands. That's why victories against us are such a big deal.

let the haters hate, when has michigan ever had such a dominating player like this as a QB.  Im excited for big ten play.  Sorry lil brother shoelace is coming for you! And he is humble and always smiling too!

It's not a stretch to argue that Tebow gave people a lot of reason to hate him.

Denard isn't arrogant or self-indulgent.  The only people with reason to hate him are rivals and those left in his dust so far.  He'll go a long way if he continues to put up numbers, stay humble, and flash that Desmond smile.

The reason they're hating is because over the last 3 years the sharks smelled blood in the water and it became popular to bash Michigan and Rodriguez. Now after the start they've had and terriffic play of Denard the haters don't know what to do. We're going to continue to see hate and love pouring in but I don't care. Just win.
