some good news

OK So in light of today's bad news,  I stumbled upon a nice quote concerning Barwis and Craig Roh.

Doree Fox Senesac Per Craig Roh: "And it's safe to say that Roh has become a disciple of Coach Mike Barwis. It's ridiculous, today I squatted 455 lbs. for 6 reps. I power cleaned 315 for 8 reps. Coming in, I was not doing that. I've always been strong overall, but the gains are ridiculous. Barwis is a genius. He is making me and the rest of the team ridiculously strong"

Here's hoping the D line with Roh will compensate for the paper thin secondary.

I am getting a bit sick of Barwis fluff.  Granted, there is clearly a large correlation between physical fitness and ability to dominate on the gridiron, but at this point I don't really give a rat's behind how much Craig Roh can squat, how quickly JT Floyd can shuttle, or how many Boeing Dreamliners Mike Martin can pull using only his teeth and an exercise band.

I just want to know if they can play football!!!!!!

it definitely isn't a bad thing that people are getting stronger.

My main point, I suppose, is just that for two years now we have had people jizzing their pants about what a dramatic effect Barwis is having on the program, and we just haven't seen it on the field.  I don't recall the team looking any stronger in the second half of games than the first.  It is at best a mixed bag...positive (ND, MSU) and negative (Illinois, Purdue, Wisconsin, PSU).

Now it could be that the team would be even worse off without Barwis, and that instead of a 5 win team we would have been a 3 win team, but who knows.  I don't dislike Barwis, I am just frustrated and would like to see the obvious physical gains translate to the field.
