Solidarity with McHobbit - Duke fans are the worst.

Submitted by JCV16 on

Duke fans chanted "how's your grandma" as Tyler Lewis (aka McHobbit), who just lost his grandma (with whom he was very close), shot free throws.   Certainly not all the students were doing it, but sounds like at least 100 of them.   I'm sure KG approves - everyone else should not be surprised.

I wonder if Grant Hill will write a sanctimonious op-ed blaming this on Jalen Rose.

The Cameron C**ts are the most over-hyped buncha nothing in college basketball. The only thing more dated, tired, and used-up is Dick Vitale.

I've lived and worked around a lot of Duke fans, and I find them most of them irritating, but this surprised me.  I expect this kind of thing at MSU, but this isn't really the Duke style of annoying.  Disappointing.

I'm not saying it was all of them, but most of the people who were continuing to chant for the second free throw changed it to something that most certainly was NOT "past your bedtime". I would not put it past a bunch of drunk college kids, who are there to maintain a tradition of being loud and yelling distracting shit during free throws, to start chanting about the death of a players grandma just so that he would miss a free throw. Sounds right up the alley of the Cameron Crazies.

This is really, really lame of the Duke students that were chanting that.  However the "Kevin Garnett is a duke fan" tag combined with the brilliance of the McHobbit nickname have me cracking up here.

Edit:  Allegedly.  Kind of like how CRAIG JAMES KILLED FIVE HOOKERS WHILE AT SMU

Per comments on the matter from Duke students:

"This was "past your bedtime."

This was a coordinated chant made by the head line monitor when he held up a sign saying something along the lines of "Chant Past Your Bedtime for Tyler Lewis."

Nolan Evans either misheard or is sensationalizing because I was standing directly to his right and heard nor said anything along the lines of "How's your Grandma.""

I know we all hate Duke but we can't take a story and run with it without hearing from the other side.  At most, MAYBE a couple of d-bags from duke were saying it but it certainly wasn't the entire student section.  Sounds like the writer is just trying to get some headlines.

This thread was pretty depressing until Eric once again saved the day by turning the discussion to nachos.

Now....I think anybody who puts chicken or literally anything BUT ground meat on theirs is not really serving nachos.  It annoys me when i see these so-called chefs fucking up a perfectly otherwise great plate of nachos with wierd meat-foods that belong on a French resturant's menu and not on a plate of nachos.

Chips, beans, GROUND MEAT, diced tomatoes, cheese (lots and lots of cheese), onions, lettuce, jallapenos and avocado with a bit of sour cream and salsa on the side.  Now that's nachos!

I heard two very distinct chants of "how's your grandma" on the second free throw.  It might have been mixed in with others, but it was definitely there.  I'm not going to make excuses for Duke or give them the benefit of the doubt on this one like a lot of people seem to want to do.

They remind me of:

Johnny from the Karate Kid...and pretty much anyone William Zabka played.

Stan Gable (Ted McGinley) in Revenge of the Nerds

James Spader's character, Steff, in Pretty in Pink

Roy Stalin in Better Off Dead

If you are too young to have seen these movies, you must watch them. They are some of the finest works of art our country has produced.

As much as I hate Duke fans they are clearly saying past your bed time. You can even see them rocking someone in the first row like it's his bedtime.

Is just wrong and needs to listen again.  While on the first free throw, it seems like almost everyone is chanting "bedtime," on the second free throw there are a lot of people chanting "how's your grandma".  It's mixed in with the other chant but it's there.  I understand the instinct to be the reasonable guy in the room, but face facts.
