We made it too close for comfort but Michigan is headed to the winner's bracket with Haylie wagner's sacrifice fly.

Was too stressed to post in the game thread - thank goodness we got out of there with a W.  As Wagner went up to bat, I turned to my mother & said, "Nothing wrong with a sac fly", which turned out to be right on target.  Scary game, and a microcosm of the season.  We saw the best & worst of this team in that one.  We'll need to play a lot better to beat ASU tomorrow, but at least we're still in the winner's bracket.  We'll see where it all goes from here.

One big positive shout-out, incidentally, has to go to the bottom of the order.  Unproductive at times this year, the 7-8-9 hitters came through again and again today, ultimately providing the winning run.  That's one big step forward in terms of playing like a championship-caliber team.

For those who like a good statistical review in addition to a very nice win for Michigan softball, the box score is here - LINK

Congratulations to the softball team and good luck against Arizona State tomorrow!

of a win!  After that awful 7th inning, I'm happy the girls escaped to stay in the winner's bracket.

So is Godzilla:

...which means another relatively peaceful night on Monster Island.

Question. I know if fsu gets upset in the 8 seed region, asu would host supers. What if michigan and south florida both won as unseeded teams? Who would host next weekend?

Between the two regional winners, the higher seed hosts.  So if Michigan and FSU win, FSU hosts.  If Michigan (a 2-seed in their regional) and South Florida (a 3-seed in their regional) win, Michigan hosts.

The only question would be if Michigan (#2 in their region) and South Carolina (#2 in their region) both win.  In that case, the softball committee would have a quick conference call to determine which team is the better seed.  Michigan would almost certainly win that vote, looking at the current RPI.

So...if Michigan manages to win their regional, Michigan would play at Florida State or they would host South Carolina (probably), South Florida or Fordham (certainly).
