Softball vs FSU Game 3 Open Thread

Submitted by VCavman24 on

After that dissappointing loss let's have a separate thread to differentiate this hopefully much better game from that poor showing.  Game starts at 7:00 p.m on ESPN.  GO BLUE!

FSU made just enough plays and UM just botched way too many opportunities. That game will make the offseason tough on the team and coaches. Solid season and a short, good run to reach this point. Hopefully a little better next year to make it a great season.

Sucks, but what can you do? Gotta take the good with the bad. Today was heartbreaking, last weekend was amazing. I wish the Seniors could have had one more WCWS appearance, but they can be proud of their careers.

And congrats to FSU, even if one of their key players had no business being on the field.

When Michigan softball was 36-7 and ranked third in the nation after going 22-1 from the time they beat Arizona 3-0 on March 7 until they beat Minnesota 7-2 on April 20, they looked like a team of destiny on the way to the College Softball World Series.

But then came some disasters.  They lost the chance to host the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.  They courageously eked out a 2-1 series win over Arizona State, but needed a game-and-season-saving catch that became ESPN’s Top Play of the Day.  And then, after beating Florida State 17-3 on Thursday night, they came back today and could score only two runs in two games, suffering a shutout loss and a walk-off loss to the Florida State team that had taken Michigan’s place as the third ranked team in the nation before the NCAA Tournament began.

The Michigan women end what was, on April 20, looking like it would be a great season.  But they finished 11-8 in the past month, losing more games in that stretch than they’d lost between the season opener on February 8 and April 20.  They bookend their season with losses to Florida on February 8 and to Florida State on May 23.

The Michigan women should not be ashamed. They enjoyed a very good season and were co-champions of the Big Ten. Maybe this is just Florida State’s year.  Now, if Florida State wins the NCAA softball championship and pitcher Lacey Waldrop wins the NCAA Player of the Year award, will we get to see a closed-circuit video during the summer of Waldrop “accidentally removing” crab legs from her local Publix without paying for them?
