Softball takes game 1 of doubleheader

Submitted by South Bend Wolverine on

To avoid the bad weather coming in this weekend, softball is playing IU in a doubleheader today at the Wilpon Complex.  The Wolverines opened their Big Ten & home schedules in style, blowing away the Hoosiers in an 8-0 6-inning run-rule affair.

Wagner starred in the circle, going the distance and earning the shut-out while scattering 6 hits.  She also helped her own cause at the plate, with two hits & 2 RBI, drawing a walk as well.  IU's pitching was clearly terrified of Sierra Romero, as she did not even get an at-bat in game 1, drawing 4 walks, more than once with runners aboard.

The game ended on a bases loaded double by Taylor Hasselbach in the bottom of the sixth.  Game two of the twin-bill will start shortly.

I don't get how it's a doubleheader, and MGoBlueTV is only broadcasting ONE game of the two.

Is it because the crew has to move over to Crisler for the WNIT game tonight?

Anyways, great win. Softball is my favorite spring sport. I like Baseball, but Softball is much faster.

Game two is going quite well, as the Wolverines lead it 8-0 heading into the 4th.  IU pitched to Romero for the first time today in the first inning and got punished by a solo-shot.  I doubt they will repeat that mistake again.

After a scoreless 2nd, Michigan blew the doors down in the 3rd, plating 7 runs on 4 hits and 2 errors.  Driesenga has struggled a little, allowing base runners in each inning & loading them up in the 3rd, but she's managed to keep a lid on things so far.  Hopefully that trend continues and we get out of here with a pair of run-rule Ws!

to the B1G Softball Season!

I really like the idea of moving the game forward when weather conditions threaten.  Especially this year, as winter doesn't seem to want to go away without a fight.

Today was a relatively beautiful spring day, but the southern Michigan forecast thru Wednesday calls for temps in the 20's and 30's with snow showers possible a few times.  Not at all the kind of weather you want for softball or baseball .
