Hat tip to Haegar. Never seen such 1 person dominance. Mental errors and timidness did us in.

If Umps are letting you get away with HBPs, then lean in all day. Gotta take whatever competitive advantage you can get. Props to UF for recognizing that.

Great series between two great teams! Florida just made the most of their opportunities. But in all seriousness, leave the Gatorade dumping to the big girls. All they did was soak their coaches ankles. GO BLUE FOREVER!

That was a frustrating game to lose. Am very tired of the cheap HBPs.

At the same time, it was a good season, and most of the team is coming back next year so we'll have another good shot.

I saw it in game 1 when she was taking huge gulps of air and throwing wild. Not judging!! Jesus I'd be a mess in front of a national crowd. But hopefully Megan knows next year that she is amazing and shouldn't worry about the opponent or any other little stuff on her mind. Thousands of Wolverines have her back.

So people in the other thread kept saying the HBP rule needs revising. Can somebody who knows more than I do about softball please tell me what's wrong with it? Wasn't it just the umps sucking?

If you are in the batters box, you don't have to attempt to move out of the way of a pitch. It's on the pitcher not to hit the batter, not the batter to get out of the way. I can understand the frustration of them crowding the plate. I only caught the last two hbp's and it didn't look Florida leaned into them at all. I imagine it would be hard to prove intent to get hit by the pitch. It's basically the umps judgement, kind of like obstruction....

Softball is an awful sport. Or at least the current NCAA version of it is an awful sport. It's unbelievable the stuff that is promoted in softball that would never be acceptable in baseball or most other sports for that matter. Where the hell do you ever see a pitcher screaming in the face of someone every time they get a strikeout? How about stop showing bunt on 3-2 pitches and maybe don't bunt when you have 1st and 2nd and 2 outs? How about you stop running out of the batters box before you swing? How about a rule about having to make an attempt to get out of the way of a pitch instead of being able to step out of the batters box (almost on the plate) to get hit by a pitch and still get a free base. The sport is a circus act. Negbang away but that's just the fact. I'm sure people find it entertaining but I find it kind of repulsive. Every out doesn't need 10 high fives before you throw the next pitch.

Actually not at all. I'm one of those people who grew up learning sportsmanship and to never disrespect an opponent on or off the wrestling mat or baseball diamond. I learned to keep my mouth shut and act like you've been there before. I learned to be respectful in your chatter on the bench and on the field and not put Gatorade boxes on my head or swing twizzlers around while hanging them from my hat. I learned to be in a good hitting position ready to swing with good balance and not shuffling around or faking a bunt on 5 pitches in a row every time I get up to the plate. I learned to throw the ball into the pitcher and not huddle and give high fives after every routine play that's made in the infield. Call me old school but that's the way I learned to play sports. Don't make a mockery of yourself, respect your opponent and the game. In truth The Michigan women have a much, much, much better grasp on that whole philosophy so I wasn't posting that as a knock on this team. They're a tough group of women and they play hard nosed but the sunflowers in the hair garbage with coordinated singing and dancing is a bunch of distracting garbage that doesn't really have a place on the field and there are a number of teams who do that crap.

the bench.

They go non-stop on every pitch.

We used to do all sorts of chants in baseball, but women's softball is its own level. Just pointing out that complaining about one team's antics versus another team's antics is silly. And complaining about women's softball for being women's softball is silly.

I prefer to focus on the truly exciting on-field stuff.

Yikes. I have no problem with the players having fun and getting fired up. One of the worst things about baseball is all of the macho bs and unwritten rules. It's never cool to just be a dick to someone, but getting fired up when you strike someone out should be fine. If you don't want to get "shown up," don't give up home runs and don't strike out.

So Michigan shoots itself in the foot for a lot of this series allowing UF to get the edge, and the sport itself is to blame for that?

Okay then.

I personally enjoy the differences. In baseball, Wagner would've rushed the mound LOL and all kinds of disaster would ensue.

Lets count the ways: They play dirty. Going high with elbows along with boards. Then when they do get caught by the refs they whine like bitches. Their coach is a cries whenever a call goes against them. Their organization will eject fans for wearing opposing teams colors. Such as cheap organization that is full of bandwagon fans.

The batter gives up a lot of time coming off the fake to get back into the batting stance.  Seems like a lot of power is sacraficed for nothing.

And why have a batter's box in softball?  The slap hitters are half way to the pitcher before making contact with the ball.

The team got as close to a title as you can. Yeah it sucks but they gave an elite Florida team all they could handle. Florida only scored 7 runs in 3 games and 5 were in two separate 1st innings. We played great, but Haeger is too annoyingly elite. She'll be rememebered as an all time great and deservedly so.

Ugh... Gonna be stuck hearing about this for a few days down here... I just started following but it seems like taking more swings could lead to higher offensive production.. I dunno..

Anyone agree that softball is a way better sport to watch than the WNBA?  It would probably draw more fans too.
