Softball: NCAA Regional Field Announced
The Women's Softball Selection Show was tonight. Michigan will obviously host a regional as a national seed. They are the #2. As for the teams they'll face in their regional:
Ann Arbor Regional - May 21-23 at Ann Arbor, Michigan
Notre Dame (45-10) vs. Illinois State (32-18)
Wright St. (30-28-1) vs. No. 2 seed Michigan* (46-6)
I'll see if I can't convince Tim to have some sort of preview out for the weekend. If not, I may try to pull double duty.
No word on game times that I've seen yet. If Michigan can advance, they'll see the winner of the Tennessee regional.
...not to get ahead of ourselves, but do you know the rules on super regional hosting? Is it higher seed or some other factor?
The higher national seed has hosting rights in supers. So Michigan would host the Tennessee if they hypothetical situation were to occur. Tennessee is the #15 seed (they seed the top 16 for that reason). If, say Michigan doesn't make it that far -I perish the thought- Tennessee would potentially host whichever school I would be burning down at the moment, therefore not affecting the play of the Super Regionals.
Didn't Michigan play both Wright State and ND in their regional last year as well?
...to mgoblue.com, it was Miami and Notre Dame, then Baylor in the super regional.
Turns out it was two years ago that they played Wright State and ND: http://www.mgoblue.com/sports/w-softbl/archive/mich-w-softbl-sched-2007…
I'm excited to go, first home game I've attended all year.
