Softball: Michigan vs Fresno St Elimination Game

Submitted by HelloHeisman91 on

I'm surprised that this thread hasn't been made already.  Michigan is the visiting team and is  currently winning 4-0 in the bottom of the fourth.

Have there really been any instances of cyber bullying?

Honestly, Aside from the parody account I havent seen anything even remotely CLOSE to cyber bullying. And I'd hardly call the parody account cyber bullying. Nobody has said or done anything to WD that he hasn't said and done to others.

Anything that has been thrown WD's way that would be constituted as "cyber bullying," must have just been missed by me.

that made it their goal in life to try and show everyone on the board what a terrible scourge WD was for the board and succeeded in making themselves appear 1000 times worse.

Typical scenario would involve WD posting something or postulating about something... immediately followed by a group of Internet jackals that would downvote any little thing he posted, a score of a women's tennis match, some obscure bit of news about a non-revenue sport would set them off and then it would digress into the group of them whining like bitches about WD thinking he is so great and promoting himself on the board as something special, all the while putting themselves out there as some sort of arbiters of what the board should think and essentially promoting themselves in a way that was way worse than what they accused WD of.... and to the vast majority of the board they were simply boring little pricks with a vendetta that made everything worse.

Whether they like to admit it or not WD and the emails DID help take down the evil Sith lord that was David Brandon and it was never clear to me why they had such a huge problem with that. It almost seemed like they were loyal to Brandon they they went after him.

Go look at his post on the MSU baseball game... they need him there. How DARE he post about M beating MSU!

This blog is full of a bunch of arrogant assholes. WD put up good content and was atracked for it. Lately this blog has turned to shit. Nothing worth even looking at or reading including from the mods.

The irony of watching Seth whine about lack of interest in his football X's and O's breakdowns warms my little heart a little. Especially after he told me my Michigan Men's Tennis diaries were shit and we only cared about football content.

all the time... to the extent that they created a mock account and were posting mock stuff.... that is not "picking at" it is disrupting to the board and annoying in the extreme and only really serves to display what petty assholes they are. No one else shares their opinion, cares what they think of WD or has any interest in their little feud.

Also.... the only picking I have ever seen from WD was in trying to respond to the bag of dicks that have it out for him. Show me somewhere....anywhere... where he has instigated a conflict without being provoked.

Follow him on twitter? It's all over. I can't pick and choose threads he's done it. Honestly I don't pay that close attention to what he specifically says on here to people. But on twitter there are multiple instances of him picking at people and talking shit. He gets what he gives. I hardly call any of that cyber bullying. Smack talk and the sort doesn't really fall into that category. That's my only point.

I dont give a flying fuck about twitter. Twitter is not MGoBlog. And yes WD has been bullyed here as long as I can remember and the bullys should be ashamed of themselves for they have certainly shamed themselves repeatedly.

I have about 15 years of Street and Smith and the Really Big Ten college football preseason magazines from the 80s and 90s. I thought that you would like to add it to your collection of Michigan history. If you want the magazines let me know. I live in Macomb County.

there is an extremely simple solution that I would hope I don't have to spell out for you.

Look at the comments and vote totals on this topic here and understand that the tiny group of tiny people sniping at him or about him are NOT appreciated..they are not considered humorous or beneficial to the board and people want them to stop.

I am not going to call it cyber-bullying or whatever, I'm just calling it SUPER annoying on the part of those perpetuating it.

If I were to take the criteria you cited to justify all the BS activity toward WD and then make that a justification for everyone on here to follow/harass/parody every other poster on here that they might find mildly annoying or possibly a little self-congratulatory at times, this place would quickly digress into an MLIVE forum or whatever that MSU board is called.

Think of it this way...I find the small group of his detractors to be highly annoying, unfunny and self-important....should I regress to being 12 years old and follow them around to downvote everything they post, make a point of getting pissy almost any time they discuss anything and perhaps make a few parody accounts in order to post to the board and comment in a snide manner to make fun of them?

The answer is no, because that would peurile, annoying to the rest of the board and just plain dumb.

@UMichWD on twitter is a solid source. The simple way he talks to/about people. It's the same way people talk about him here.

Particular recent tweet: "I knew I shouldn't have looked at the usual mgoblog crapshow game thread but I did. The usual clueless poster whining about recruiting."

Nothing major. But also is just as bad as anything I've seen thrown his way. He dishes it out to other people. And nothing horrible is sent his way. It's a far cry from "cyber bullying."

It is a well-written, amazingly informative and deeply researched post about an historic beating old a rival that also happens to be immediately pertinent to the baseball post season scenario possibilities.

Would absolutely loooooooooove to hear one of them try to justify downvoting that post as anything other than a petty, trite, vindictive little-prick move from a measly  little wanker with an inflated sense of self-importance.

I considered starting a thread on it but pulled back as I thought it would turn into a complete shit-storm given how polarizing WD can be here.

Can an avatar be bullied?

WD is not real.  WD is a persona made up by somebody and displayed here to the board.  For all we know the things WD claims to do (like taking Friday off from work to prepare for the game on Saturday) may be oomplete and utter bullshit.  We dont know.  And while WD certainly shares more personal information than most (as do I) we certainly could take the criticism more personally.   But at the end of the day ALL of us are simply an avatar and the persona we chose to portray.  So can a pretend person be bullied?

I also believe that more frequently one posts the more likely one is to create friction with others and parody accounts/posts can spring out of that friction.  If you look at the users by points, for example, and sort by negative you'll see a parody account that was created to mock me so I know what that feels like.  I also know that like WD there are people here that downvote and are critical of just about anything I say and, also like WD, there are people here who upvote most posts and say nice things.  The sword cuts both ways.

I understand that on Facebook, Twitter and other forms of social media we are presenting ourselves to the world and cyber-bul;lying is real but I dont think that's the case here.  We simply either chose to believe or reject what people say about themselves but WD, like mGrowOld, is not real.

I understand WD is hurt by the parody account post but IMO he needs to remember that he is NOT WD, he's a real person with a real name and to not  confuse the two persona's as being one and the same.

The board is better place with WD contributing IMO.  Even if some people here give him shit he really doesnt deserve.

"But at the end of the day ALL of us are simply an avatar and the persona we chose to portray."

Wait ... we can have a persona? We don't have to be ourselves - we can be somebody else?

Okay, I pick Batman. Or Bruce Springsteen - I'm good with either.

Seriously, though - I've been on this blog for a couple of years now, and I've never understood what the hell WD did to make this pack of jackals follow him around for the specific purpose of shitting on everything he posts. Maybe on his worst day he's a little annoying, but hell - at my age, pretty much every 20-year-old is annoying. I don't know the kid, but he's got an interest in all things Michigan. This would seem to be the place for it.

You don't like him? He's not your cup of tea? Fine - that's your business; that's your right. But to follow him around just to throw crap at him? It makes you look like a bunch of middle-school dickheads in the back of the bus waiting for the nerd kid to climb aboard.

Give me a reason to neg that post other than a petty vendetta.

If all it involved was downvoting, we wouldn't be having this conversation.

There is ridicule, mock accounts, personal comments and attacks.

Consider this... WD post tons of good informative content here.... those that attack him offer zero contribution, other than this petty vendetta. Nothing of value beyond snark focused on WD that is hardly limited to downvoting. They pop-up every time he posts and puke and mewl and in general take a thread or discussion in a negative direction.

I don't care what WD does on twitter..... that is not the blog. Here, from what I have seen, he keeps it civil.

I think he does the board good.  Sometimes a bit much but all in all a better place with him than not.  I personally have never negged him although he does take a beating sometimes (but to paraphrase Henry Hill) "everyone takes a beating sometime."

Stay in your lane? This coming from a guy that is bitching about the commentary on a non-revenue sport. Don't like the commentary, mute it. There's nothing she says that has anything to do with the game being played.

You can see the balls, strikes, outs, the score, and you can physically watch everything happen. Sound isn't part of it. So mute it. Or buy tickets to the damn games so you don't have to bitch and moan all damn night.

bet you feel the same about college hockey announcers... right. I'll bet you also really enjoy watching hockey without the sound. Totally the same. Except not fucking at all.

Fwiw, there are websites dedicated to firing Beth Mowins - I'm not out on some kind of crazy limb here in finding that she pays more attention to her vocal modulations than the action too frequently. She's like the female Musburger - that asshole is also far too comfortable with not knowing what the fuck is going on down on the field, so long as he reads his next shitty promo and gets paid. Musburger prioritizes his announcer voice over the action and it bugs the hell out of me when he does it, too.

JonnyHintz

Yes. As a matter of fact I do feel the same about hockey announcers. If I don't care for the commentary, I mute the TV. It doesn't take away a damn thing from me watching the game. Not hearing skates digging into the ice or the puck hitting the boards doesn't take a single thing out of the game.

And he "girls deserve professionalism in the booth," is a crock of shit. For starters, the girls don't hear the commentary of their games. They're also more worried about actually PLAYING the game and don't really give a damn who is commentating and what it is they're saying.

So again. Don't like it, mute it or buy tickets to the game. Find an online streaming of the game. Bitching and moaning about commentators of non-revenue sports isn't going to get you very far.

the women's sports fight like hell to grow their audience and to grow their sports.

The higher quality of the production, the better ambassador the broadcast is for the sport.

Especially in terms of drawing in a male audience, say, baseball obsessives like myself, it makes one feel they're watching a rinky-dink non-serious production and that the NCAA doesn't care about the quality of the production. For someone to not know how many outs there are and then act like that's not even no big deal, but no deal at all, it's off-putting.

As someone who played, there's also just a certain level of respect for the sport involved in paying attention to what's going on in the game.

For the record, I hate watching hockey with no sound - makes me feel like even more of a psycopath. I want to hear the crowd, the sounds of the game, and I certainly want to hear the reaction of the crowd when something big is happening. So, different strokes. The overall assertion that because you are good sitting in front of a mute tv like a mental patient, everyone else should be, again, glad it works for you. I prefer a well-delivered broadcast. There are many of them out there. Some are particularly bad and really stand out, Mowins is one of them. As I said above, I'm not alone in finding her particularly grating.

I don't know, I guess I should have just told them that the "floor view experiment" for that OSU game was awesome and all good, lol.

you both show.

Watching without sound is not an option for that reason alone.

Any trained outfielder (I happen to be one) needs to hear the sound of the contact to know where the ball is going to go. Maybe this area of sports isn't quite so important to you? Otherwise, you would know how essential it is to hear the sound of bat meeting ball.

Small minded...  Says the guy that used "stay in your own lane" on an internet comment board.  The shitiest of all standard business cliches.  If sound is so important to you then buy a damn ticket.  You get the sound of the hit ball without the commentary of a play by play announcer.  Besides, there are websites dedicated to firing ever announcer/coach/player/blog everywhere.  Who cares?  Stop being a pompous douche...

writes long, ponderous, kinda dull post after post and I produce more irascible content. I don't comment on his posts, I just let him do what he does here. And thanks for the perfectly reasonable suggestion to fly to Seattle. FOH, I'm not a wealthy retiree.

JonnyHintz

May 21st, 2017 at 1:23 PM ^

Cool. And the trained outfielders CAN hear the ball hit the bat and they go make that catch. You sitting your ass on the couch can wait a half a second longer and see where it goes.

Or you can suck it up and deal with the below par commentary that is going to come from ESPN broadcasting games that they're losing money on.

freejs

May 21st, 2017 at 5:34 PM ^

but Beth Mowins gets that reaction from a lot of people.

Meanwhile, some of these suggestions are just ridiculous. What, because I'm not a wealthy retiree, tough on me because I can't spend the time/money to fly to the game in Seattle? What the fuck is that? Then this last yabbo, stretches it out to because I'm not on the field whether or not I can hear the ping off the bat is my problem? These things are patently ridiculous.
