Softball Bounce-Back Game Thread

Submitted by South Bend Wolverine on

No two ways about it, the game earlier today was a big disappointment, both offensively and defensively.  The great thing about softball, though, is the fact that the season is very long, and there will be many other opportunities to get high-quality wins.

In the meantime, we've got a 2nd match-up today, going head to head with the USF Bulls.  The game can be watched online (although it looks like there's a price tag) at http://www.gousfbulls.com/liveEvents/liveEvents.dbml?SPSID=36725&SPID=2…; You can also follo via live stats or on the Michigan Softball twitter account.  First pitch should be right about 4:30.  Let's hope we can get a good palate cleanser here & put that Florida game firmly in the past.

Per the gametracker, Faith Canfield is getting her first career start at third base today.  They haven't posted a starting pitcher yet, though.  Blanco is at first, so it looks like Driesenga and/or Betsa will be the pitcher(s) in this one.

my five-year old has been chatting up the nice lady sitting next to us for about 20 mins now... turns out it's Megan Betsa's aunt. She said Megan is fine, and they never know when she's going to play because they're saving her.

Of the returning starters, Monte is the one in most danger of having her bat lifted this year.  She's a plus defensive player, and she upped her OBP a lot last year by working a pile of walks, but she doesn't have the average or the power of the rest of the line-up.  She'll be an interesting player to keep an eye on as she tries to hold off the freshmen.
