Soccer on BTN

30 minutes left 0-0 against 4th ranked Akron. Michigan is hanging in there.

[Ed - PGB:  I'm so glad this thread was posted.  Along these lines, is there anyone in the MGoCommunity that has the ability to provide regular updates to the Board on things related to Men's Soccer?  I think it would be a great service.  I would do so myself but I am not on campus and don't really have access.  It would be cool if someone there near the pitch could provide regular updates by way of a Diary.  Any interest? <looking at you, msoccer10>]

I might disagree with beating Maryland at Maryland in the NCAA's last year might top that allowing us to advance. But, don't scoff at Akron, they are one of the top, if not the top college men's soccer team year in and year out.

Didn't we win the big ten tournament last year? That and whatever got us to the semis last year were bigger. This is nice. Hopefully it propels us. Michigan didn't look like a 4-10 now 5-10 team tonight. The defense looked solid for most of the game though each team got sloppy in the back eNd towards the end of the game. I didn't see any stud scoters but the team generated some chances. So I'd think things are looking up

Great to see the boys get something going their way. Its been a rough year after losing arguably their two best scorers in Soony Saad and Justin Meram. On top of that the ball just hasn't been bouncing their way with 3 of their losses coming in overtime as well as the Butler loss being very close with a pk to tie with seconds left that got stopped. Hopefully they can use this game as a springboard into the B1G tourney in a few weeks.

Not to be debbie downer, but I don't think Michigan will make much noise in the B1G tournament. Our offense has been suspect all year (not that this should be a surprise due to losing arguably the best forward in the nation last year) and while we have taken I think 6 games to OT this year, we rarely we able to put the ball in the back of the net. We also had a favorable home schedule this year against our opponents and failed pretty miserably. We have won more games on the road than we have at home. The upcoming NW game in a week or so will be very interesting. It will set the tone (paired with the game against MSU) for the tourney.

That being said, we are hosting the Big Ten Tourney this year, so if we can manage to play better at home we have a shot. Our play at the Soccer Stadium has improved throughout year, as we realized how to play without a star forward. I think we get to the semifinals and lose in OT, but with a lucky bounce or call that goes our way, we can make some noise.
