Soccer at the Big House not happening this summer
what's interesting is that Hackett wanted to have it back.

Hackett confirmed he had been in conversations with tournament organizers as recently as last week about using the Big House as a venue, but scheduling issues proved too difficult to overcome. “We wanted to make it happen,” Hackett said Wednesday night. Hackett cited a desire to have Michigan Stadium ready for the football team’s Sept. 12 home opener against Oregon State.

I was in the Man U fan section in the North Endzone for last year's game and had a blast. Would def. go again given the chance. Maybe next year.

I had on my black Rooney jersey so as to not contribute to the sea of red in the BH.

On that note, it is going to feel really weird to not have a home game until almost halfway through September.

The second week of September is the home opener.
Fun fact: Harbaugh's last home opener as a Michigan player was against Oregon State.
His first home opener as the Michigan head coach is against Oregon State.

How did you know that? You must have binders of information laying around your house.
Seriously, though, cool fact.

He went five weeks without posting but made a couple comments three days ago. He's one of my favorite posters because of the avatar, user name, insightful comments and the fact that he replied to one of my comments several years ago.

The Big House is known all over the US, but that game got Michigan international attention. I would absolutely be ok with doing it every single summer forever

That and the winter classic were good things Brandon did. Gets exposure and money for the department while keeping the stadium in use.
My friends in London were asking me how close Ann Arbor was to my house. You are correct that the friendly certainly shined a light on Ann Arbor. Pretty cool stuff. Also, the game was great and Man U won. Which was awesome.
Well yeah, but the hockey game was sold out too...it's not like Michigan gets a cut of the TV revenue.
I didn't watch much of last year's game as I'm not a fan of either team, but too bad to hear about the field. Hope they can host more games there in the years to come.
But trucking in the turf doesn't always produce great results (see last night's friendly in San Antonio).
Detriot (Ford Field) is a finalist for Copa America next summer, though. I was hoping for Michigan Stadium to be in the mix there. How great would something like Argentina/Uruguay or seeing Brazil play at the Big House?

I'm a little disappointed, but at the same time it may lose a little luster if they have it here every year. Most of the other venues for this tournament don't sell out. I guess Barcelona is playing this year so if it was Man U v. Barcelona then it might be worth it. None of the other matchups would most likely fill up the stadium. Chelsea is extremely popular, but they played in the tournament two years ago and there were a lot of empty seats.
I think most games did sell most tickets. There were a few taht didn't do all that well but just about every game had a least a very, very solid crowd if not a sellout.
Think it should be an every other or every 3-4 year thing. And only when we get a couple of the giants in. I don't know if PSG-Club America would sell out the Big House unless it was promised that Ibra would play 90 minutes and kick an opponent.
