So, where do helmet stickers go now?

Submitted by LJ on

The Monday after a game is the time to touch on the most pressing of subjects.  Such as, where on earth are the equipment folk going to put helmet stickers after the next two-ish games?  For reference, check out Rudock's helmet here, with stickers from only 1/3 of the total games from the season:

Do they start stacking them on top of each other?  Cashing in wolverine stickers for an 'M' sticker that's worth 20 wolverines?  Discuss.

selective when giving them out. Our helmets are unique in that they have three stripes extending to the back instead of 1 or none, so there isn't much real estate back there.

I'd like to see small block M's that are either maize or blue, and they can put the blue ones on the maize stripes. I wonder how that would look. And make them as small or smaller than the block 'S' that State used to use (or still uses?)

On that note, is Sparty using Seminole-style "spears" now?

I'm sorry but if Jake has that many stickers then they are not difficult enough to earn. I'm not trying to knock the kid but let's be real.

Another way of putting this is: compare Rudock's (or any offensive starter's) helmet with that famous photo of Bo yelling at Harbaugh in the Rose Bowl and you'll find that they have roughly the same number of stickers. It's hard to believe that someone in the 5 games this season could already have earned as many stickers as Harbaugh did in a Big Ten championship season, assuming the criteria are the same.

Once the helmet is full, it's full.  But they also have a wall chart in the locker room where they'll keep adding stickers as the year goes on.

(EDIT: I see this was mentioned already.)

Where stickers go? That's a first world problem. Nice problem to have. Personally, I don't know as I'd make them much smaller. Maybe slightly harder to get next year? Put on a chart in Schembechler Hall once your helmet fills up? Either way is fine with me.

Be less generous with the stickers.

Currently the splits between stripes are too wide. Before the right and left stripes converged to the center front of the helmet (toward the player's nose):

Today, in 2015, the left and right stripes converge to the player's cheeks. Result: not enough space and less aggressive look.

Secondly, stripes since 1979 have converged all the way to collar of helmet.

They could replicate the 1940s design and leave room under the stripes for more stickers.

Note 1977 vs. aTm.  Stripes converge 2 inches above rear collar of helmet.

Ron Simpkins (40) has helmet stickers applied underneath.

really matters.

When all three stripes converge to the front nose of the helmet, it makes wings look more aggressive.

But Harbaugh is very generous.

Here's Rob Lytle's helmet in his last game as a Wolverine, January 1977. He finished 3rd in Heisman voting that year (1976). Roughly 35+ stickers

This is another reason why helmet stickers on our helmets are silly. They also look horrific. At least make them smaller.

They're spacing them out differently than they did before--all they have to do is cluster them a little tighter, start lower on the helmet, and slant them a little, and the helmets would fill up a bit more slowly.

I didn't want to make a whole new thread for this but does anyone have any suggestions of a good bar to watch the game this Saturday down in Louisville on 4th st??

I think it's probably 80% agreed amongst the entire Michigan fan base that those SAME stickers would look so much better if they were a little smaller. I hope our voices can some how reach the coaching staff next year and bring this to the suggestion table. I guess I doubt it. Though I know there is someone who reads this blog that has the ability to reach the coaching staff. If the stickers were smaller, you could also hand out a bunch of them at once like we appear to be doing, without immediately filling up the helmet.

The force of the impact of our players tackling / blocking / trucking other teams will knock the  stickers off Michigan's helmets  to their helmets, thus creating space for replacements.
