So This Puts Us in the Citrus Bowl vs. Florida?

Submitted by BursleyHall82 on

MSU has a lot of experience losing in the Final Four, so it'll be nice to see the football team take their turn. So as I see it, this means:

- MSU in the National Semifinal vs. Clemson or Alabama (once again - you've got one job, Saban)

- OSU in the Rose Bowl vs. Stanford

- Iowa in some other New Year's Six bowl

- Michigan vs. Florida (or maybe LSU) in the Citrus Bowl

Am I right?

I fucking hate Hio- but they have the "best loss" and most impressive recent win beating us in AA like they did and they're defending champs. The Sec sucks this year and have one decent offense in Ole Miss. Ok lost to sorry ass Tex. I'm cheering for Clemson from here on out even though I'm not sold on them, but I would put shitty Ohio in over Ok and maybe even Bama.

There's no dominant team this year. There's 30 teams that could possibly win it if there was a big playoff

The thing that pisses me off is we were good enough to be in the playoff this year!!!  We beat MSU fair and square.  OSU...well it was another story.  They are the most talented team in college.

Will beat MSU. I'm not saying it's a guarantee, but people keep writing them off just because they're Clemson. They've beaten some really good teams and have been #1 for what, two months now?

Nothing would make me happier than MSU getting crushed 59-0 or similar by Bama.

I got a text from a buddy from high school that went to state that said "That was a good game, when does Michigan play?"

It's just ... laughable I guess.  They've been one of the most successful football programs in the country the last 6 years and Michigan has been in a historically bad period and yet they still bring up Michigan.  This is why, despite massive success over Michigan the past several years, the "little brother" moniker persists.

Well I guess we just hope if plays out like the final four in basketball and Staee gets run off the field. The 2012 ND team is the only one that comes close to matching how lucky this Staee team is.

I don't think we have ever seen a team this lucky. That interception off the back of another player turned this game. If Iowa scores there they win. The miracle of all miracles against us, and OSU lays down for them with the worst game plan ever. It's mind-boggling.

Did anyone else watching feel that if Cook had played the way he did tonight against us that we would have crushed MSU?  He seemed to underthrow or overthrow a lot of open receivers.

Iowa doesn't avoid UM, MSU, and OSU again after this year.

This was Kirk's last hurrah.  They play Michigan and Penn State next year and Michigan State, Penn State and Ohio State in 2017.

I fully expect Michigan to manhandle them next year.

Iowa in the Rose Bowl. They lost to MSU in the last seconds while OSU lost to Sparty and their back-up QB (at home). You can say Iowa didn't play anybody, but neither did OSU outside of us.

I understand the desire to match two head coaches in their first seasons coaching at their respective schools, but Florida, playing in their home state, represents a much bigger challenge for Michigan than you might think.

Before the SEC Championship game, the FEI ratings had them as the 8th best defense in the nation. Michigan’s defense was ranked 19th, and fifth among Big Ten teams. Plus, Michigan will be playing in the bowl game without its defensive coordinator and three of its best defensive linemen – Mario Ojemudia, Bryan Mone and Ryan Glasgow. LINK

Although Florida’s offense before the SEC Championship game was ranked 61st on the FEI ratings, they went up against Alabama’s 3rd rated defense, so their poor performance yesterday might not be indicative of how well they’d do against the depleted Michigan defense. LINK

Moreover, despite Alabama’s struggles at times on offense this season, they were 31st in the FEI rankings (Michigan was 35th); and having Derrick Henry, a Heisman Trophy candidate at running back, made for a far greater challenge for Florida’s defense than Michigan’s running game will present (with both De’Veon Smith and Drake Johnson working through injuries, Ty Isaac on what seems to be “double secret probation,” Derrick Green possibly home in Virginia and Jabrill Peppers also needing to devote time to playing on defense and special teams.)  Also, with Jake Rudock having suffered an injury in the Ohio State game, Michigan’s passing game might have to be close to perfect against some very good Florida defensive backs.
