So This Puts Us in the Citrus Bowl vs. Florida?

Submitted by BursleyHall82 on

MSU has a lot of experience losing in the Final Four, so it'll be nice to see the football team take their turn. So as I see it, this means:

- MSU in the National Semifinal vs. Clemson or Alabama (once again - you've got one job, Saban)

- OSU in the Rose Bowl vs. Stanford

- Iowa in some other New Year's Six bowl

- Michigan vs. Florida (or maybe LSU) in the Citrus Bowl

Am I right?

What fucking talent limitation?

They have 3 1st rounders playing.  They have 3 more guys going in the 2nd thru 4th.

Burbridge is #2 wr after Carroo in conf

Malik McDowell is probably the 2nd best DT in the conf ..... as a SO.

They have 3 LBs better than anyone we have. 4 incl Ed Davis.  Incl reshke who was supposed to be on the bench this year so Ed Davis could play.  He goes in as a SO and was lights out the back half of the year.

When they get highly rated rbs they actually do shit unlike ours.  They have 3 rbs better than any on our roster - LJ Scott wasnt even the feature back the last month.

Its called fcking coaching - they hhave it in spades at the position coach level.  HS talent is HS talent  - they have another level to reach when you get to college.  99% of kids are not Jabrill Peppers walking off the bus with NFL ability..

They have talent all over the field.  We are the one with the talent limitation outside of our DL, DBs, and 1-2 wrs.  Child please.

Look at state's recruiting class...winning at the last second is all about coaching. Last second wins are a testament to the culture and belief that has been established since Jan 1 of this year. It's coaching, culture, leadership etc. great organizations have it,

You mean the culture that allowed them to have a punter flub a kick at the last second?  Or the leadership that allowed Nebraska to run down the field basically untouched for a score and waste a bunch of time with long-developing throws that wasted precious time in their comeback?

Dantonio deserves a hell of a lot of credit for MSU goig from a terrible program to one of the best in the country, and some of that is culture.  But this season in particular has been marked by an insane number of breaks, not just those that "happen" to good teams.

IMO. Recruiting and coaching are very different. Schools like UM, OSU, Bama all recruit themselves. Who in their right mind, (prior to recent success) wanted to go to MSU? Most of their players were top tier MAC players with MSU being their only P5 offer. Coaching is taking those players and getting more out of them than expected. (ie. the exact opposite of Brady Hoke )

That play was a combination of all kinds of blunders, from coaching to execution, none of course related to an ounce of skill or coaching from MSU. To pinpoint the blame on exlusively the coaches or the punter assumes literally everything else on that play was perfect, and it very clearly wasn't. We handed them the game.

If the snap was on the mark and we didn't send gunners down the field to corral the kick returner who wasn't there and instead had max protect, maybe Blake doesn't biff the low snap.

Whatever—I have never seen a luckier team in all my years of watching football than MSU this season. It hurt Iowa badly to lose Canzeri, but that's Sparty luck this season.

For one day I'm going to be a huge Clemson or Alabama fan.

ND 2012 is the only one in recent memory but this MSU is even luckier.

They have led for 27 seconds in games over OSU, UM, and Iowa.

  • Oregon game - Adams breaks his finger the week before.  Plays average and then overthrows wide open wr on last drive.
  • Purdue - had ball at midfield and driving on MSU to win game on last drive- derps
  • rutgers - see Purdue
  • UM - the thing that shall not be mentioned
  • OSU - a monsoon happens eliminating OSU abiity to throwy ball on same day MSU had backup QBs in. Urban decides running against a stacked box all day is cool.
  • Iowa

They are 6-1 in games decided on last drive.  With 2 wins at 0:00.

Culture and coaching is keeping them close but damn if just 2 of these go against them its a diff story.  But they now just fucking find ways - they were the Detroit Lions for 4 decades and are now not.  Which is a problem.

Basically, against their 3 toughest opponents, which they "beat" despite losing to a less than average Nebraska team (go figure), they led for 95 seconds, but "earned" the same stats, as if they were winning for 10,800 seconds. Normally, you'd credit this sort of team with "perserverance" and "dedication," but I find that difficult based on their performance against Nebraska. Ultimately, this just sucks... a lot

Thankfully games aren't decided on TOP.  Much like your game MSU also lead in yards gained by a pretty wide margin.  I think the old saying "Opportunity is when luck meets preparation".

You all can put down MSU all you like but I believe they are headed to the NC game.

Even if the punter drops it, no problem. But all of this, because of that fluke of a play and the punter basically passing it to the defender! Big ten champions and going to the playoff, he'll potentially winnining the National championship because of that fluke of all flukes!!!!! I hate this shit

is one of the best, if not the best coaches in football at any level.  Dantonio is a good coach, but he has not proven himself as Harbaugh has.  Harbaugh has taken several programs from mediocrity to greatness.  As a bonus, he consistently takes washed up QBs and makes them into NFL MVPs or all-conference looking players.  Dantonio is a great coach, but he is the 3rd best in the B1G, even though he might be top 5 nationally.  It's kind of crazy to think of, but I think the B1G has 3 of college football's top 5 coaches.

Dantonio's won three Power 5 conference titles. How many has our coach won.

Now, I think Jim is one of the biggest competitors out there and is going to figure out how to turn this situation around. He knows better than any of us that we absolutely have to start beating our rivals.

Let's be real.  If you want to compare the two, you have to break things down a little more than that.

FWIW,  this is only Harbaugh's 5th season in D1 CFB.

He laid the foundation for a couple Pac 12 titles.

He went to the NFL right when his program was humming.

He won a couple division titles in the NFL and won the conference.

He also made a BCS bowl and won at a school that was probably in the bottom 10 of worst teams in D1 well before the msu coach did.
