So This Puts Us in the Citrus Bowl vs. Florida?
MSU has a lot of experience losing in the Final Four, so it'll be nice to see the football team take their turn. So as I see it, this means:
- MSU in the National Semifinal vs. Clemson or Alabama (once again - you've got one job, Saban)
- OSU in the Rose Bowl vs. Stanford
- Iowa in some other New Year's Six bowl
- Michigan vs. Florida (or maybe LSU) in the Citrus Bowl
Am I right?

Urbans got a lil more jewelry.
But yes I agree that mork is the best coach right now.
December 6th, 2015 at 12:07 AM ^
Hard to argue against Urban. But he's second.

If Urban had to deal with the same talent limitation Dantonio has, he would still be doing TV. Right now, Dantonio is the best coach in the country, and it's the worst feeling in the world.
December 6th, 2015 at 12:17 AM ^
What fucking talent limitation?
They have 3 1st rounders playing. They have 3 more guys going in the 2nd thru 4th.
Burbridge is #2 wr after Carroo in conf
Malik McDowell is probably the 2nd best DT in the conf ..... as a SO.
They have 3 LBs better than anyone we have. 4 incl Ed Davis. Incl reshke who was supposed to be on the bench this year so Ed Davis could play. He goes in as a SO and was lights out the back half of the year.
When they get highly rated rbs they actually do shit unlike ours. They have 3 rbs better than any on our roster - LJ Scott wasnt even the feature back the last month.
Its called fcking coaching - they hhave it in spades at the position coach level. HS talent is HS talent - they have another level to reach when you get to college. 99% of kids are not Jabrill Peppers walking off the bus with NFL ability..
They have talent all over the field. We are the one with the talent limitation outside of our DL, DBs, and 1-2 wrs. Child please.
December 6th, 2015 at 12:18 AM ^
He means incoming talent compared to the slew of 4 and 5 stars Ohio State has. Which means Dantonio and his staff are as good or better at identifying raw talent and developing them into those future NFL types.

Do I really need yo explain recruiting and how OSU attracts more raw talent than MSU does? Your comments further prove what great coaching can do for otherwise marginal players.
December 6th, 2015 at 12:22 AM ^
Look at state's recruiting class...winning at the last second is all about coaching. Last second wins are a testament to the culture and belief that has been established since Jan 1 of this year. It's coaching, culture, leadership etc. great organizations have it,
December 6th, 2015 at 12:40 AM ^
You mean the culture that allowed them to have a punter flub a kick at the last second? Or the leadership that allowed Nebraska to run down the field basically untouched for a score and waste a bunch of time with long-developing throws that wasted precious time in their comeback?
Dantonio deserves a hell of a lot of credit for MSU goig from a terrible program to one of the best in the country, and some of that is culture. But this season in particular has been marked by an insane number of breaks, not just those that "happen" to good teams.
December 6th, 2015 at 12:46 AM ^
Sigh... watching Derrick Henry out there was nuts because he was in Derrick Green's recruiting class.
In fact... Green was rated higher than Henry was... smh.
December 6th, 2015 at 12:23 AM ^
Then recruit better players. Part of being a HC in CFB is recruiting.
Dantonio is an elite coach but solidly behind Meyer and Saban.
December 6th, 2015 at 12:36 AM ^
IMO. Recruiting and coaching are very different. Schools like UM, OSU, Bama all recruit themselves. Who in their right mind, (prior to recent success) wanted to go to MSU? Most of their players were top tier MAC players with MSU being their only P5 offer. Coaching is taking those players and getting more out of them than expected. (ie. the exact opposite of Brady Hoke )
December 6th, 2015 at 1:12 AM ^
Agree completely. Dantonio vs. Saban is a matchup I'm pretty interested in watching.
December 6th, 2015 at 12:15 AM ^
like OSU last year. Can we just get to this point, please!!!!
December 6th, 2015 at 12:08 AM ^
in a tie
December 6th, 2015 at 12:09 AM ^
So smart of Dantonio to call the punter fumbles the snap play against UM. Never saw it coming.
December 6th, 2015 at 12:16 AM ^
We keep everyone tight, and that game ends differently.
December 6th, 2015 at 12:19 AM ^
If the punter catches the ball none of that shit matters. It was a fluke.
December 6th, 2015 at 12:25 AM ^
If the dog didn't stop to take a piss, he would of caught the rabbit
December 6th, 2015 at 12:29 AM ^
Well, I don't know much about pissing dogs, but some counterfactuals are relevant and some aren't.
December 6th, 2015 at 1:05 AM ^
and that fluke would have just been a bobbled snap if not for a better coaching call
December 6th, 2015 at 1:39 AM ^
That play was a combination of all kinds of blunders, from coaching to execution, none of course related to an ounce of skill or coaching from MSU. To pinpoint the blame on exlusively the coaches or the punter assumes literally everything else on that play was perfect, and it very clearly wasn't. We handed them the game.
December 6th, 2015 at 12:31 AM ^
If the snap was on the mark and we didn't send gunners down the field to corral the kick returner who wasn't there and instead had max protect, maybe Blake doesn't biff the low snap.
Whatever—I have never seen a luckier team in all my years of watching football than MSU this season. It hurt Iowa badly to lose Canzeri, but that's Sparty luck this season.
For one day I'm going to be a huge Clemson or Alabama fan.
December 6th, 2015 at 12:46 AM ^
ND 2012 is the only one in recent memory but this MSU is even luckier.
They have led for 27 seconds in games over OSU, UM, and Iowa.
- Oregon game - Adams breaks his finger the week before. Plays average and then overthrows wide open wr on last drive.
- Purdue - had ball at midfield and driving on MSU to win game on last drive- derps
- rutgers - see Purdue
- UM - the thing that shall not be mentioned
- OSU - a monsoon happens eliminating OSU abiity to throwy ball on same day MSU had backup QBs in. Urban decides running against a stacked box all day is cool.
- Iowa
They are 6-1 in games decided on last drive. With 2 wins at 0:00.
Culture and coaching is keeping them close but damn if just 2 of these go against them its a diff story. But they now just fucking find ways - they were the Detroit Lions for 4 decades and are now not. Which is a problem.
December 6th, 2015 at 1:04 AM ^
than 27 seconds in the Iowa game. They were up 9-6. That lead didn't last long though.
December 6th, 2015 at 1:31 AM ^
fair point.
MSU took the lead with 57 seconds left in the 3rd
Iowa scored 11 seconds into the 4th.
So MSU had the lead for 27 seconds + 68 seconds = 95 seconds.
December 6th, 2015 at 1:52 AM ^
Basically, against their 3 toughest opponents, which they "beat" despite losing to a less than average Nebraska team (go figure), they led for 95 seconds, but "earned" the same stats, as if they were winning for 10,800 seconds. Normally, you'd credit this sort of team with "perserverance" and "dedication," but I find that difficult based on their performance against Nebraska. Ultimately, this just sucks... a lot
December 6th, 2015 at 9:44 AM ^
Thankfully games aren't decided on TOP. Much like your game MSU also lead in yards gained by a pretty wide margin. I think the old saying "Opportunity is when luck meets preparation".
You all can put down MSU all you like but I believe they are headed to the NC game.
December 6th, 2015 at 12:25 AM ^
True, and then this thread would be about now crappy it is that OSU is going to the playoffs again. As bad as that play was, I get a glimmer of solace in that at least or screwed OSU.

Even if the punter drops it, no problem. But all of this, because of that fluke of a play and the punter basically passing it to the defender! Big ten champions and going to the playoff, he'll potentially winnining the National championship because of that fluke of all flukes!!!!! I hate this shit
December 6th, 2015 at 12:11 AM ^
I'll admit that Dantonio is the best coach in the B1G if you admit that Harbaugh out coached him in this year's game
December 6th, 2015 at 12:13 AM ^
No way--Harbaugh never thought of the grab an interception off the back of a player laying on the end zone play. Pure genius coaching.
December 6th, 2015 at 12:17 AM ^
But, it I didn't result in a win. That's what's hurts. Watching this shit and all our sparty buddy's texting, calling and laughing their way to a playoff bid.
December 6th, 2015 at 12:30 AM ^
Sparty buddies? You hang out with those assholes?
December 6th, 2015 at 12:43 AM ^

He did. Except on the last play of the game when it mattered most. Harbaugh and crew got badly out coached there. Sent dudes to go block non existent people downfield when MSU's only option was all-out block.

If the kick had been blocked, you'd have a point. As it is...
December 6th, 2015 at 1:02 AM ^
if we were in max protect the way we should have been, Blake might have had the time needed to get a real kick off after picking up the ball. As it was, he had unblocked Spartans bearing down on him and he panicked.
December 6th, 2015 at 12:27 AM ^
Mark called a timeout after Iowas incompletion on their last play. Attention to details
December 6th, 2015 at 1:12 AM ^
is one of the best, if not the best coaches in football at any level. Dantonio is a good coach, but he has not proven himself as Harbaugh has. Harbaugh has taken several programs from mediocrity to greatness. As a bonus, he consistently takes washed up QBs and makes them into NFL MVPs or all-conference looking players. Dantonio is a great coach, but he is the 3rd best in the B1G, even though he might be top 5 nationally. It's kind of crazy to think of, but I think the B1G has 3 of college football's top 5 coaches.
December 6th, 2015 at 2:26 AM ^
Dantonio's won three Power 5 conference titles. How many has our coach won.
Now, I think Jim is one of the biggest competitors out there and is going to figure out how to turn this situation around. He knows better than any of us that we absolutely have to start beating our rivals.
December 6th, 2015 at 6:33 AM ^
a professional football conference title and damn near won a Super Bowl...and pretty much put an end to the SC dynasty
December 6th, 2015 at 6:37 AM ^
Let's be real. If you want to compare the two, you have to break things down a little more than that.
FWIW, this is only Harbaugh's 5th season in D1 CFB.
He laid the foundation for a couple Pac 12 titles.
He went to the NFL right when his program was humming.
He won a couple division titles in the NFL and won the conference.
He also made a BCS bowl and won at a school that was probably in the bottom 10 of worst teams in D1 well before the msu coach did.
December 6th, 2015 at 10:03 AM ^
has also been the head coach at msu longer than jim has been a FBS head coach so that comparison is really unfair to make.
December 6th, 2015 at 12:12 AM ^
You can't compare Dantonio to Harbaugh since Dantonio has so much more to work with already. Harbaugh took what Hoke gave him and doubled the win total and we outplayed them in the game. Give it time and Harbaugh will make Dantonio his Pete Caroll.
December 6th, 2015 at 12:18 AM ^
and look at what he's done with it. Can't expect everything to change overnight, or in one season.
