So is Mattison > Hoke now?
Don't get me wrong, I am pretty darn happy abut this hire right now. I dont think I have ever seen this board this excited before. If you were all chicks at a bar I'm pretty sure I could score with each and every one of you tonight.
I'm wondering if people find this to be a better hire then Hoke was. You could make the case that he has a better resume then Hoke for the HC job.(I'm not saying he does, but it can be argued) And if he is more qualified, how the hell did Hulk Hoke pull this off?

No. Hoke clearly out weighs him.

This hire gives me more confidence that this is all going to work out now. It also gives me confidence in BH that he can pull a guy like this. I'll be honest and say the rest of his choices had me underwhelmed which wasn't giving me a great deal of hope for the DC, but BH proved me wrong and I have never been happier to say that.

scoring with me brah. Bible says two me ought not lay together.
Mmm-hmm.

You shouldn't sleep with your clone.

Nice hire, if he only had hired a top flight OC I'd have two thumbs up for Hoke. Now it's one up and one sideways.

Mattison is a coordinator, not ahead coach, that is is history. Hoke has been a successful head coach. Together they look really strong.
Hoke knew where to go to get the guys he needed - he's in charge and showing it.

Mattison has definitely accomplished much more as a DC than Hoke as a HC. Overall, I feel much better about Hoke with our OC and DC in place. Both have substantial experience in major conferences (nfl) and could really be a strength. Mattison is a huge step up from GERG.

...not. There is no Mattison at Michigan without Hoke.
"When Brady got the job (at Michigan last Tuesday), I said to myself, 'If I'm going to do this, I'm going to do this with Brady,'" Mattison said. "I wouldn't have gone to any other college team. I wouldn't have changed what I was doing for anybody but Brady.
"When he called and said, 'I want you to be my defensive coordinator,' I told my wife, 'Oh boy, we made this career change and I may not coach 10 more years. It's not like I'm going to coach forever.' But you know what? He's special. What he's going to do at Michigan, my gut feeling is I want to be there with him when he does it. I want to do whatever I can to help him do that."

I was just going to reference that article. If there is one thing I have learned about Brady Hoke this week is that he is passionate, makes good decisions and is surrounding himself with the right people. Sounds like a great formula to succeed.

I just got chills reading that.
January 18th, 2011 at 11:08 PM ^
Sounds like someone might be willing to go gay for brady. And that makes about a couple hundred thousand of us.
January 18th, 2011 at 11:17 PM ^
Impossibly so. And they don't just say, they do for him (Whitlock, former players attend press conference, GM takes DC job).
Whatever Hoke has that makes people feel this way, it's got to translate to the players soon. These aren't simpletons throwing around gushing mounds of praise.
Happily finding myself seeing the reasons I was opposed to this hire overcome by those in favor of it

I love Brady Hoke.
*sadly casts his RR/Obama poster T-shirt into the wind*

Buy me an Oberon and I'll do whatever you want.

This is a great hire. I had pretty much ignored the rumors that Mattison was a candidate. Why a NFL DC (who coaches a dominant D), would leave to coach one of the worst collegiate defenses is beyond me I guess he loved his time in A squared as DC back in the 90's...Welcome Back! This should pay dividends in recruiting topflight defensive players.

You will need a couple drinks. After about 12, I should look appetizing.

Wrong. That is his pet name that I gave him. He is Huckleberry and I am Blueberry Jam.

You haven't seen the board this excited before? Were you not around for any of the Denard threads?
January 18th, 2011 at 10:48 PM ^
He said excited, not suicidal.
January 18th, 2011 at 10:51 PM ^
Haha. I meant the good Denard threads. When he was tearing opponents to tiny bits. People here do remember that, right?
January 18th, 2011 at 11:02 PM ^
...commitment post had a ton of happy.

I completely forgot about that. Those were happier days...after the past couple months I forgot about early season Denard

Let's hope this will help us shore up the defensive recruiting class over the next few weeks! Now I really can't wait for September!

if they added all their hair together they would have a gerg hairdoo. but then again they have more room to know what scheme they are running

ful mispelling to annoy grammar Nazification) and Hoke makes peanuts, as long as he can administrate in the Bobby Bowden stye and get us some conference championships :) over the next few eons. Pay these guys the big bucks and let him walk on his knees around Amurrica provin his love for the Big U.
