So That Just Happened....

Submitted by JR's Flow on

I don't know what to think about what just happened in the Sparty Game. What are your thoughts on the this for the conference, Sparty's "Prestige", and Michigan's outlook on this. Discuss.

EDIT: Note that MSU had ZERO penalties in the game, that is a big swing. Good coaching, player recognizing that they got luck with how Michigan didn't take advantage of the penalties, or just don't hate Wiscy as much as Michigan?

That TO was one of the dumber things I've seen called in a game lately.  Maybe call it on 3rd and 22, but 2nd and 22??  Ultimately gave Sparty just enough time.

hurts the B1G's prestige (no undefeated team).  Pretty much kills any shot Mich has to win the Legends division.  And shows that sparty is for real. So....shit

Let's root for Nebraska.

The following procedure will determine the representative from each division in the event of a tie:

  1. If two teams are tied, the winner of the game between the two tied teams shall be the representative
  2. If three or more teams are tied, steps 1 through 7 will be followed until a determination is made. If only two teams remain tied after any step, the winner of the game between the two tied teams shall be the representative.
    1. The records of the three tied teams will be compared against each other
    2. The records of the three tied teams will be compared within their division
    3. The records of the three teams will be compared against the next highest placed teams in their division in order of finish (4, 5, and 6)
    4. The records of the three teams will be compared against all common conference opponents;
    5. The highest ranked team in the first Bowl Championship Series Poll following the completion of Big Ten regular season conference play shall be the representative in the Big Ten Championship Game, unless the two highest ranked tied teams are ranked within one spot of each other in the BCS poll. In this case, the head-to-head results of the top two ranked tied teams shall determine the representative in the Big Ten Championship
    6. The team with the best overall winning percentage [excluding exempted games] shall be the representative
    7. The representative will be chosen by random draw.

Someone commented on a thread before the game started that they hoped MSU won the West and got killed in the BTCG by Wisconsin, vaulting Michigan into the BCS.

I think this scenario just got a lot more likely, assuming Michigan can go the rest of the way with only one more loss.

I don't know if it's just me buying into the SEC hype after it's shoved down ESPN viewers throats every 10 seconds, but the B1G simply looks very weak this year.  Teams have been beaten by mediocre ooc teams, and the teams everyone considered good, just aren't all that.  Maybe I'm wrong, but my guess is the bowl record will be awful this year.

We're fucked in conference.  That is all.  We'd have to win out, and they'd have to lose 2.

I think us winning out is actually a possibility.  But their schedule is set up nicely for them.  They could win out as well.  Their only real challenge is Nebraska.

Yay Outback bowl! :D

well on the road.  Loss to ND and a three point win over Ohio who was still missing their best players.

How often do you see a supposed Heisman candidate drop the ball on a sure first down, a blocked FG, a blocked punt for a TD right before half when all the punter needs to do is get it off, a WR drop a sure TD pass, tie the score after being down 14 in he fourth, your arrogant coach call time out on a third and eight when the other team is playing for OT, the same coach call time out right before the hail mary, and then have the hail may overturned by replay.

Our loss to them doesn't look so bad now... They looked, at times, like the best team in the Big 10.

Unfortunately, this means the Big 10 is out of the picture for national championship. I still think Wisconsin wins the Big 10, though. With the exception of Nebraska hopefully beating Michigan State (Nebraska is at home), Michigan has a shot of getting an at-large BCS bid by winning out against a field of truly flawed opponents. Every team we play in the next 5 weeks is beatable, and if we win out, we could have a special season. Maybe fiesta bowl against a Big 12 opponent and NOT an SEC opponent (please...)

Well Wisconsin played the derpiest quarter in recent memory, and now we have to go undefeated while an MSU team that just beat Wisconsin loses to two of Nebraska, Minnesota, Iowa, Indiana and Northwestern.

Exactly - Enjoy the games but let's not start obsessing about Sparty.  They will crash and burn in their own time.  Don't concern yourself with it.  Sparty will be Sparty.  Who cares.

Bad end game management by Bret.  MSU played a decent game but nothing impressive (sorry i'm not being a homer I really just wasn't impressed).  Thought it was funny that the helmet to helmet call that took Ball out of the game wasn't called.  Just an observation it didn't look dirty to me or anything.  The last 10 seconds that refused to tick off from the second to last play made me laugh so hard.  It didn't effect (affect?) the game though they still had time for that last play but it still made me giggle.  MSU holds the legends division in their hands completly.  Congrats to them.  I won't be impressed until they beat Wisconsin on a neutral field in the B1G championship game which they really look like they will be there.  That is all.
