So It Begins: NDSU / Montana Open Thread

10-7 Montana as time expires in the first quarter.

The few glimpses of Montana's offense a la Stitt have been very interesting thus far, but NDSU has managed to get to midfield (make that Grizzlies' 30) and is driving.

It's on ESPN, and you get Musberger if like Musberger.

Wow.  Four pages for North Dakota State vs. Montana.  You people are ready for football!

I was ready for football a few weeks ago when I turned on ESPN and they were showing the college national championship for fishing.

That was exciting! I only tuned in to watch Stitt and I am glad I did. Never have I cared more about a season opening FCS game. He and Montana will be fun to keep an eye on as the year goes on.

I love football.

the environments in these games is great and these schools have built strong, prestigious programs. I've seen too many good FCS programs dream of FBS glory so they move up a level and disappear forever into mid-major nothingness. App State will never been a harbinger of doom again, they're just another Middle Tennessee State now

Same goes for Georgia Southern, Western Kentucky, Marshall, etc. Once proud programs relegated to permanent mediocrity for a few bucks.

Agreed.

Know what you are and know what you're not. Why destroy your prestige and status as a powerhouse program in the FCS just for a few extra bucks?

You will never be a Michigan, OSU, Alabama, Texas, USC, Notre Dame, etc. Might as well be the big fish in the small pond vs. being just another Akron or Eastern Michigan that gets paid a couple hundred grand to be a power five school's whipping boy and going 6-6 in the MAC every year.

Montana had a chance to move up and passed on it. They used to play with Boise and Idaho before they moved up and they are such polar opposites now it has spooked the UM admin into not moving. Plus, with all the realignment they don't know where they would end up in terms of a conference. Better to be a big fish in a small pond.
