So hoping for a big year next year

Submitted by umhero on

I just got home from watching the Thursday night game with three friends who went to State.  Before the season two of them bet me and another Michigan guy dinner at the Capital Grill that the Wolverines wouldn't make a bowl this season.  I was really looking forward to tonight, since the dinner bet has already been sewn up.

This visit was miserable.  They spent three hours telling me how the spread won't work in the Big Ten (BTW- Auburn and Oregon are overrated and wouldn't be undefeated in the Big Ten).  The 3-3-5 defense won't work against the physical lines in the Big Ten.  We are a one trick pony with Denard.  And we haven't beaten State in the two major sports in over 1200 days.

I almost want to put State in their place more than I want to beat OSU.  I hope we can entice Casteel to join us next season.  I truly believe he could take the talent we have, employ the 3-3-5 scheme the right way, and make us a formidible defense next season.

I have to see these guys again tonight although tonight's group will also include five Michigan guys (too bad none are MgoBloggers so they aren't very well informed) so at least I will have some support.

Sorry to vent (this site is really like a sanctuary for Michigan fans right now), I am so sick of not being on top.  I am "All In", I just hope it doesn't take too much longer.

I tend to agree only because I deal with about 10-20 Sparatans on a daily basis. I only know like 1 or 2 Buckeye fans both of whom I never have to deal with in my day to day life. I really REALLY wanted to start the "Back to Normal clap clap clapclapclap" chant in the student section this year, but alas...

One of the things that makes us Michigan is that everyone wants to beat us because we are Michigan and we just flat-out want to win every game.  RR gets this and then is accused of not "getting it".  He gets it. I get it.   Sparty doesn't get it, but that's ok.

Sparty is like little brother with a learning disability. Just walk him to his special-needs class and pat him on the head for encouragement. No need to get upset.

I would rather send the coaches down to TCU to study the 4-2-5. IF they make changes on the staff(GERG) and RR keeps everyone else I say(like this means anything) stick with one D ala IOWA/OSU and perfect it. As stated throughout this Blog, M is young on D and changing from 3-3-5,3-4,4-3 is getting silly. TCU is constantly a Top D and as far as a big time program goes I think Va. Tech runs the same.

So in summary: Were getting depth/experience back next year and I'm not a big fan of the 3-3-5 and would like to run the 4-2-5 by hiring a coach from TCU D or going down there and studying it...Ready Break.

I think your biggest mistake was expecting any intelligent or remotely objective conversation out of them.  They will always find reasons to overrate their own team and attack Michigan; it's what they do.  So, all that leaves is being able to gloat next year, as Michigan continues to improve and MSU tries to replace a boatload of seniors.  The players behind the seniors might be "just as good as the people who are leaving" but the leadership won't be there.  This usually means losses in close games, and less "good breaks."

Meanwhile, Michigan's offense may be as good as that of Oregon this year, and the defense may make the "leap" to mediocre.  When you put all of this into the blender, it translates to Michigan trashing MSU next year, and Spartybragging turning into Spartywhining.  And you can be the one providing the misery next year instead of enduring it.
