We mauled an inferior opponent - no head scratching how are we tied with TEAM A in the 4th quarter.

Funchess... Funchess... Funchess... enjoy because he looks like next year he'll be playing on Sundays.

Holy shit balls - Devin didn't twirly whirl when pressure came - he stepped up in the pocket several times.

O-Line - eh... ok maybe... well maybe not... er well ok "TBD" or "WIP"

took a minute to get rolling but they gelled quickly and got better as the game went on. Very encouraging to see! A product of the new scheme or the maturation of the OL? Probably both. The true test will be next week but this sets them up for a great week of practice.

When you suggest it was a product of the "new scheme" you imply that there was an old scheme.  To me, the problem last year was that there was no scheme, just a different plan virtually every week, as Borges continued to try to ram square pegs into round holes and vice versa.  Today, the beauty of the scheme was that it did put square pegs in square holes.  What a concept!  Last year, it seemed like when the team came to the line, usually with 5 seconds on the play clock, I knew what it would run and so did everybody else.  This time, it seemed far less apparent.

Consistency can do wonders, can't it? Not to mention our WR blocking downfield, whooooo! Miller and Kalis 10 yds downfield engaged, other than the sack Cole was NOT noticeable, Mags looked good too!

Damn, edit: copy and paste doesn't work from ESPN (breaks the thread).

Re: comparing the opening game running stats:

the stats this year were much better in my opinion.  170 for Green and 110 for Smith with 3 tds between them is preferable to two 60 yard backs, Norfleet with 38 yards and Gardner with another 60.

Two completely different teams, of course.  So who knows how good we'll look in B1G play.

We were commenting after the game that it has been a long time since we have won that handily. At no point did I feel like our lead would totally disappear. Only 1 int and 1 sack, not bad. I feel like we really upgraded on O. DG looked more confident.

Seemed good to me overall. Miller played well, Mags played well. Cole, Braden and Kaliis played well although each got beat once. Burzynski not as effective as Kaliis.

Be interesting to see where Glasgow plugs in, I am betting RG.

Devin needs to avoid contact when he runs.  Players hold him up and tee off on him.  Nothing to prove here, stay healthy.

against a shit opponent, but I really liked what I saw from the offense today.  The RBs showed pretty good vision, there were holes and the passing game is going to be dangerous.   Would have liked to see more from the other WRs, but I don't think that Nuss wanted to show a whole lot of the playbook against ASU.

Loved the O. I think what we'll see this year is consistency. Plus, the return of the bubble screen. Sweet. With a simplified playbook, and all that talent, DCs are gonna be losing a lot of sleep this year, starting in South Bend tomorrow.

Nice Win. Go Blue.

We have to keep in mind who we played today. The competition was not that good, but it was extremely relieving to see us run the ball effectively. You can tell we've improved from last year. At least as far as us not being able to run the ball against Akron and UConn last year. We'll have a real test next week against what should be a good Irish defense, but I liked what I saw today from the offense. Funchess will be a nightmare for any secondary to match up against.

Im just loving the 2 headed beast that we appear to have at RB! Looked alot like Bama out there. I also gotta give some love to that O-line with all the negative talk those guys went out their and performed well.

There were a lot of things to like:

1. RBs falling and running forward.

2. The OL collapsing the DL on ocassion.

3. A wide a varied set of receiving options (K. Hill was a bonus here)

4. Ferocious WR blocking downfield.

5. Getting Norfleet the ball in space.

6. Funchess is a beast.

7. Having Butt makes this team even scarier in the future.

8. Devin looked composed at QB

9. Heitzman making a catch and blocking.

was better than I thought he would be.  I had the feel he would always be a good #3 or #2 receiver that was a good blocker and he looked great today on quite a few plays.
