Have to remember the level of competition, but wow the defense looked great. Aggressive, flying all over the field, just awesome. They shut App State down completely. The second and third unit looked a tad shaky at the end, but that's to be expected. Especially at this point. Props to Mattison. This unit looks good.

The 1st team defense looked awesome and to be honest i don't think they were being all that aggressive. They were just shutting everything down that App State brought. If their is any possible weakness its stoping the run, but i thought the Starters did well even in that area.

Didn't seem like a great day from the LBs.  Ryan was quiet and seemed a step slow at times, though that may be due to the learning curve of the MLB position.  I'm confident he'll get it together.

I was very impressed with the DBs.  They looked great.  It's super-early but looks like Manning's doing nice work.

...and I won't so, whatever.

But, it seemed like we had some MAs on some of their downhill inside zone out of the pistol.  I think it's going to take a few games for JMFR to be completely comfortable at MIKE.

I may be wrong, but I thought I saw us playing some 2-technique (head up over the guard) and trying to 2-gap and it didn't go well.  If this is true (it probably isn't), it makes it hard on  inexperienced inside backers (JMFR) to be in the proper gap when the 2-gap DL switches gaps.  For example, the DL-man starts to play B gap but tries to escape into A gap to make a play; meanwhile MIKE has also committed to A gap , so B gap is unaccounted for.
