It has been noted several times through the year about the improvement of the defensive backs and their technique. One thing that I specifically have noticed is that they are breaking up passes with the arm that is closer to the quarterback. Last year there were many near break ups or interceptions that ended up as completions because they were reaching with the wrong arm.

It makes intercepting a pass more difficult, but they gain a signifigant amount of reach, especially in a game where someone can be gypsy cursed by perfect passes. They are quite consistant with it too. It is always something I notice as it was an "aha" moment for me when I played.

College Football Reference has a Play Index that includes all regular season games since 2000 and all bowl games since 2002.

Unsurprisingly, the 2007 Notre Dame game is the best defensive performance in modern Michigan history.  These last two games may be the next-best... regardless of the quality of opponent.  Directional Michigan, Delaware State... nobody's been shut down like BYU and Maryland.

<= 2.5 yards per play

I haven't been able to find box scores for the 1997 season, but I wonder the last time Michigan held consecutive opponents to < 120 yards and/or < 2.5 yards per play.  It's clearly been a while...

105 yards is an awesome performance, but I thought the D played a little better last week. Maryland's drops made it feel like they should have got more yards than they did. I thought Stribling's presence was missed since it seemed like Maryland's receivers were able to get separation every once in awhile whereas BYU's never could. Still, an awesome performance and I am excited to see where it can go from here.
