JDK and Rey for prez.
I don't know whether to listen to "I Love You Denard" on repeat or sit and write little haikus about Greg Mattison and/or Jake Ryan. Help!!!
The Mgobloggers were nestled all snug on their couches.
With visions of Mattison defenses killing MSU slouches.
Denard has shoelaces and touchdowns dancing through his head
Maxwell dreamed of Ryan and instantly wet the bed.
Leveon screamed " I will hurdle and rumble"
But having no o-line will cause him to stumble.
Tom tried to dream of sacks tackles and cheers,
But Lewan owns his ass year after year.
Need teeth to pillage your backfield. Viking Ryan shows no mercy.
Can we get rid of the "mini clay matthews" and just start calling him "clay Matthews but younger" now?
I am gonna call Clay Matthews "older Jake Ryan".
Just like Captain Insaneo
for Denards rushing QB world domination?!
Pat White: 4,480
Denard Robinson: 4,043
Denard has either seven or eight games left. That's 64ypg for seven, 56ypg if we go to the BTCG. If he doesn't get hurt, it's his.
Doesn't that just make you smile? Good for Denard.
Beat Sparty, Win at the shoe, go to and win Rosebowl... LEGEND..
gonna be sweet for him to break it, but if braxton stays all 4 years he will probably break denards record in a few years
Doubt it. Remember, BM didn't play a ton his frosh year, and he won't have the rushing stats Denard has for the last three.
8 touches by my count. Love you Denard. Glad your magicbabyjesus hand is OK.
My thoughts: fuck state
moar ball sacks!
I love Denard. I love his nickname and the story behind it. Having said that, is it time for Denard to start tying his shoes?
He's lost a shoe on a big play in like 4 of 6 games this season (IIRC). They've ended in big gains and we've been winning, but against the meat of our schedule the ability to make that last guy miss and take the ball to the house could be the difference in the game.
Point: Notre Dame. All we needed was one touchdown. If Denard has a shoe on big play, he might have the confidence to make a cut against a DB who is trying to chase him in space. I like that he's being smart and avoiding uneccesary contact, but I can't help but think that he's operating at like 90% of his potential elusiveness with his shoes untied. When that shoe falls off, his elusiveness meter falls to around 30% of his potential.
I'd love to see Denard tie his shoes. Does anyone agree? I sort of believe the NFL would enforce it somehow, why not start now?
Short answer: No.
Long answer: Absolutely not.
Its not broke, don't fix it.
on the field.
I'll take the negs with yuh...
It was cute as a freshman/Soph, but it's grown man time now.
Tie the shoes??? HELL NO. But I'll admit you do make a point. Fortunately, there is a simple solution called velcro if it actually were to be a problem.
of all statistics are made up. Also if I could figure out how to embed, i'd put up the 16 candels Family Guy episode where Jake Ryan takes what he wants. I always think of that when I see Jake going crazy in the back feild. NO Jake! Not like this!
That's where he keeps his dilithium
Otherwise there would be jock straps littering the field in lieu of Denard's shoes
Rawls and Hayes looked pretty good (minus the fumble by Justice), and the Mario with the death stare registered a sack!
If Jake Ryan is the best player on defense right now, Demens is number 2. Guy has been dominant past few weeks. Nobody other than those two really make me go 'wow, he just did that?' but everyone else is super-responsible and forces teams to put full drives together, and fortunately it seems like B1G teams aren't capable of doing that.
On offense... holy Funchess. That play in the back of the end zone was jaw-dropping.
I'd be surprised if we opened up as <10 pt favorites against MSU.
QWash also gets some of the credit for Demen's play. Eating up those blocks really helps the LBs look good.
True, he's had a huge impact on LB play no question. It's tougher to eyeball that stuff as much when the linebackers are the ones running around making tackles though
Huh. We seem to be collectively having trouble deciding how to distribute credit for such a good couple of defensive performances this season. How the times have changed. I am ok with this new set of difficulties.
The defense has really gotten on a roll the last few weeks; I think the Q.Washington and BWC have done a really good job in occupying the interior of the offensive line, allowing for Demens and Morgan to make a lot of plays.
Ryan has been an utter monster.
I had a nice side view of that catch and wow it looked good. I was also impressed with Roundtree's jump ball catch in the first half. I don't know if it was just my angle but that catch looked spectacular.
Even though MSU has prepared for Michigan and only Michigan for the last two weeks, I would say we have a chance against em.
Looking forward to the IlliniQuest posts for the remainder of the year.
I'm so pissed off that Denard was not given the opportunity to get 300 yards today
Growing worry for me:
Jake Ryan is a redshirt sophomore. His draft prospects have to be growing, and if Michigan's trends from last year hold, the defense will only be getting better.
Is he a flight risk? He has to be improving his draft status. Could we lose him after this season?
Just a hunch, but I think he stays. Jake Ryan seems to have fun in Ann Arbor (no elaboration provided). I think he stays one more year. He is getting great recognition in the Big Ten and by us U of M fans, but one more year and he could get the kind of national attention Teo, Mingo, Jones, and Star get now.
Jake Ryan is not leaving next season. He's doing great. But he's nowhere near pro-ready. Try to remember it's Illinois.
Get a hold of yourself.
Again?! That got me arrested last time.
LBs don't leave after their sophomore year to go to the NFL. I don't even think sophomores can go to the NFL if they want to. I don't think you can leave until after your junior season. Wait to worry until next year. Hopefully by then Jenkins-Stone will look good enough that you can sleep at night.
So, yes, you can enter the draft following your RS Sophomore season.
Did anyone guess the right score
Hats off to the D for the shutout! I can't wait until we ravage the Spartans offense.
What a great game to have so many recruits/commits at! Our commits can work their magic on the few still on the fence, the team does their thing on the field, and the coaches are more than likely working on them right now.
As for the game itself, Jake Ryan devours souls and Denard had twice as many yards by himself than Illinois did as a team. That's really all that needs to be said.
Ole Bennie Ryan is our best player on defense since Graham, IMO. A dynamic presence.
3rd down efficiency
4th down efficiency
Yards per pass
Yards per rush
only 29 yds passing, that is awesome.
own3d in every way. And no Denard interception(s)!
Once I got to dry land, I got the iPad out and looked at the box score, and I will say, it was great to see Rawls, Hayes and Toussaint do some good work in the rushing game today. Between the three of them, they were 61% of the rushing yardage and 2 of the TDs. I was rather pleased with the diversification of the run game, and especially by Fitz taking a step in the right direction after Purdue, or at least I think he did (18 carries for 62 yards, compared to 17 carries for 19 yards in the Purdue game).
It was also fun to watch Bellomy scramble for a first down, as well as to see Kennedy get a few snaps at the end as well as the other half of the JDK And Rey.
I can't fathom that UI threw 16 times in a game they lost by 45. Will Beckman make it to the end of the season? I'd be pretty pissed as an Illini fan right now.
Edit: this was not the post I meant to respond to.
picks Purdue. Fine judge of men.
Lots of superlatives.
All of the things stated above plus we continue to see freshmen getting lots of snaps and having an impact each and every game. A sure sign of high caliber recruiting and possibly thin depth too. I figure it helps the incoming classes too, as they figure they'll have a chance to see the field early if they're good enough.
Oh and Illinois really sucks. Really.
A certain 4-game losing streak *should* end next Saturday.
2011 Minnesota, or 2012 Illinois.....OR 2011 Nebraska
(Not including non conference mmmm snackie cakes)
Nebraska, that was a pretty great win against a New Year's Day bowl game team. The other two teams didn't even have a pulse.
Last years Nebraska game. That was a quality opponent, whereas this years Illinois team and last year's Minnesota team were not.
This was the 2nd best QB rating of Denard's career (UMass 2010), and he did it a downpour. I love how Borges has started being more judicious picking spots to have Denard throw. Despite visions in my head of the 2011 gameplan, optimism prevails for next week.
Might as well just run last year's gameplan. This Michigan State team can't move the ball on anyone. If you can't block Iowa or Indiana, you're not going to have a good time against Michigan.
The D has been spectacular since the Bama/Air Force games. They've given up two TDs in the past 4 games, both of which began in Michigan territory. The other TD was a UMass pick 6. I mean that's just... after 08-10... just a miracle.
I must say that heading into that by week at 2-2 and not a whole lot going for us I was losing faith in a really enjoyable season. After seeing the way we have dominated these past two games I don't see any reason why we can't run the table and go to the Rose Bowl. It will be tough but it's definitely a real possibility! Now let's go give Sparty the beating that they've had coming for four years!
My Midseason Awards
MVP: Denard Robinson
---Not even going to waste time with an explanation
Offensive POY: Denard Robinson
---Not even going to waste time with an explanation
Defensive POY: Jake Ryan
---Kovacs is probably the MVP, his play this year has been underrated but he doesn't make mistakes and gets everything in front of him lined up correctly. He's a leader. With that said, Ryan is playing at a 3rd Team/Honorable Menion ALL-AMERICAN type level.
Most Improved: Devin Gardner/Kenny Demens (tie)
---Gardner has to be on here by default. Demens has improved TREMENDOUSLY, especially in coverage. He used to be a run stopping MLB only. He blanketed ND TEs and backs and has held his own in coverage all year.
Most Underrated: Will Hagerup
---Who knew he led the nation in punting average? Not I.
Kerridge has been an underrated force at FB...Gardner has All-B1G potential...Funchess is going to be a pleasure to watch for 3.5 more years...Lewan hasn't been 1st round worthy in my eyes, I think he was playing better last year --- I also think that changes next week vs. Gholston...Will Campbell and Quinton Washington (especially Q) could easily be most improved --- they get better each game...Morgan/Ross, Demens/Bolden, Ryan/Gordon give us the best LB corps in the conference and one of the best 2-deeps in the nation at LB...Avery is "meh" outside but a BEAST in the nickel, Taylor has held down the strongside very well...still thinking of Brunettes I see...Hagerup approaching Mesko status.
Disagree that Demens used to be a run stopping MLB only. I've been impressed by his coverage abilities since he first took the field in 2010. The only thing holding him back previously was diagnosing run plays to slowly, but he has been playing much faster for the past month.
Does anybody think there is a possibility of Denard finding himself in NYC for the Heisman ceremony? Obviously it's an outside chance due to the Notre Dame fiasco and having played an NFL team, but if he performs as well as he has these last two games throughout the rest of the season could anybody see this happening?
I said at the beginning of the year he'd get invited (but not win) and I still think he will...
No front runners right now and I think he's going to put up CRAZY numbers between now and the Ohio game. Also think he may have a signature comeback or something like that on the road vs. Nebraska.
I could see them taking 4 with Shoelace being the 4th on the way to leading up to a B1G Championship Game victory and a Rose Bowl victory.
Am I correct in that Michigan's defense has given up 2 tds in 16 quarters. Pretty remarkable, considering Alabama and how Nd is getting high marks for theory defense...they've held opponents to 0 tds in 16 quarters
a dumpster fire right now. They suck at everything
Didn't Brian predict 29-11?
Kovacs doesn't do anything anymore...
Because Jake Ryan just takes care of everything before it has a chance to get to the secondary.
I heard this at least twice during the game today and I could only shake my head. Ace said the only moment of concern was Denard's "boo boo", but he was wrong. The playing of "In the Big House" also caused consternation among the Michigan elite.
Can we hire a closed-caption transcriptionist who knows SOMETHING about Michigan or Football or possibly even Michigan Football?
The two times I actually looked at the transcription, I saw: "East Land Sing" instead of East Lansing and "Thomas Rowels" instead of Thomas Rawls.
Was it me, or did it seem like Fitz was more effective on rushing plays out of the I? I don't have the numbers in front of me, but it seemed like a lot of his rushes for no gain were out of the gun where he had to initially take a couple of steps laterally, whereas out of the I he was running toward the line immediately and (it seemed) found it easier to gain positive yardage.
If true, this would seem to be the reverse of last year, when he seemed more effective running out of the gun. Maybe it's related to the loss of Molk?
Your completely right, I think it has alot to do with the blocking scheme and the fact that Fitz is a zone scheme runner. Hes a true one cut type of back ive noticed.
how I love thee
