Snowflakes, coaching edition - oh, this ought to be good.

Do I really need to start?

They struggled, but..

Backs are slow and can't find the right lane

Receivers just stood in place-No separation

Defense is an embarrassment - Other than a few run stops, Golson stopped himself, we never did

Special teams do nothing

Coaches making no adjustments

D backs are a JOKE

Yes, O line was bad, but they are far from the specific reason we were embarrassed.

I agree with this point. I know the O-line has issues but I think the offensive problems are larger than that.                                                                                                                                 -Can't believe how slow the running backs look. I know Brian talks about it being OK to not have breakaway speed but it's not OK if yu also have no quickness or burst, and that's what it lookslike with Green and Smith. Never seen UM running backs this slow.                              -They don't have any game breakers at the WR position. I know Funchess is a big, physical receiver that can win a jump ball down the field but I don't think teams respect him, or any other receiver, as a true deep threat. This allows the other team to cheat the safeties up, leaving more potential defenders in the throwing lanes. Maybe he doesn't know the offense yet, but Canteen needs to see the field as a true deep threat, something I don't think Darboh or Chesson can provide. Teams won't back up unless you consistently beat them deep.           -The game might have passed Mattison by. He was a great 90's coordinator but has struggled to adjust when teams spread him out. What's the signature defensive performance of the last 4 years? That's not a rhetorical question, I'm actually trying to think of one.                            -Brian was right on Twitter, putting Manning as the coach of the DBs might not have been the best idea Hoke's ever had.

Hoke will never do it, but it might help the team to let Funk go right now, like Wisconsin did with their o-line coach at this point a couple of seasons ago. My biggest concern is that the demoralizing nature of this loss may ruin the psyche of a lot of our players for the rest of the season, like Akron last year. Being proactive right now and letting the team know that their head coach isn't going to sit by and let the season fall apart again could help morale.

John Beilein . . . For helping to bring one Michigan sport back from the depths of despair.  Here's hoping that your success will rub off on whoever will be Michigan's next head football coach.

always a point or two each season where Michigan is the BIG national news, but in a negative sense. Just an unremarkable season would be a vast improvement.

There was nothing good about this performance.  Another egg on the road.  I don't know what Hoke is doing to prepare for road games, but he needs to change drastically.  After the missed field goal and the 2 PI calls, this team just seemed to fold as soon as we faced the slightest bit of adversity.  I think it highly questionable to have no captains on a team.  Zero leadership.

I hate to admit it, because I was such a detractor of RichRod and I am such a Hoke supporter, but you are 100% correct. The only difference between where we are now vs where we were then is that reporters still love hoke (although that may have ended around 8:15 tonight) and the talent on the roster is better due to hoke's great recruiting. As for the direction of the team, the public perception of our program's place in the cfb hehirarchy, the improvement in our players and our on field product, we are no better off.

Unfortunately there were so many negative factors surrounding RR that he had to go - he lost the team, lost the fans and lost his ability to recruit at michigan - but we certainly haven't improved our program since his firing.

Is over his head, but RR's offense was a train wreck against any defense with a pulse. The fact that people around here continue to state RR's offense was good has to be the most exaggerated statement made around here around that subject.

Yes, we actually beat a Kelly-coached ND team on the road not too long ago (with that offense that Hoke defenders claim was completely ineffective against real teams).  We haven't beat any of our rivals on the road under Hoke.  (Wasn't that supposed to be one of Brandon's evaluation guideposts?)

Not sure if anyone brought this up. Down 28 points with 10minutes left in the third quarter and the offense uses the full play clock on every down. I'm not asking for RR tempo but just a little bit of urgency would have been nice. Is it just me or did this bother anyone else?

Bottom has been found. The coaches need to move the team steadily up from here and quick. We have 10 more games to do that. We knew this team was going to struggle early, probably not this badly (especially defensively,) but regardless this season is about improving, not necessarily the record or score. If they can't show meaningful  improvement then changes need to happen. That's all that needs to be said at this point.

People will say, " well, we didn't give up so many yards," ND could have had 500 yards if they wanted. We got dominated. And what's worse is our secondary was atrocious, I thought it was going to be a strength.

We finally have depth again. I don't want to wreck it by firing a whole staff and sending Michigan make deeper into the wilderness for several more years.

Maybe fire Hoke and promote Nuss if you can manage it

It's not going to get any better.  This is the same thing we've seen for the past few years.

Name him interm and it upsets the recruiting very little.  His resume from Washington and Alabama merits the opportunity.  If he shits the bed DB can still make a change.

Let's summarize performance to date:

Year 1:  11-2 (Bowl victory w/mostly RR team).

Year 2:  8-5 (Bowl Loss)

Year 3:  7-6 (Blowout Bowl Loss)

Year 4:  1-1 so far (Blowout Loss to ND, first ever shutout in the series history)

Dave Brandon's Standard (Red Letter Games):

2-2 vs. ND (RR was 2-1)

1-2 vs. MSU

1-2 vs. OSU

1-2 vs. Nebraska

1-2 vs. Iowa

0-5 on the road against top 25.

3-7 in last 10 games (borrowed from another post-3 wins were a miracle against Northwestern, against Indiana giving up 47 pts, and App St).

No one is getting fired mid-season, but I don't see how we wind up beating MSU or OSU on the road.

The icing on the cake for me was when Kelly commented at the end of the game how they had to play 19 freshmen or RS freshman in this game yet somehow clobbered UM was stunning.  I thought you couldn't win with youth.

I told everyone I knew that I felt like UM would win this game, but to lose like this is akin to RR losing to Mississippi State in the blowout bowl game.

we have all become losers around here.

Gardner is a loser, because hoke is a loser.

When went 7-5 and were content, not happy, but angry enough, because the five teams were good... we were losers.

Last year when we almost beat OSU, but we didn't and we accepted it.  We were losers.  Not brian thought, I give him that....

This team, these coaches and these players, don't hate losing... they, and we accept it and try to put the best, most positive face on it... I get it, becasue it is human nature...

but we have become losers...

I want a coach who hates losing, so we can have players who hate losing, so we can have fans who don't have to tolerate losing...

that is what I think of our coaches.  For the first time ever.  fire hoke.  I am done with him.

and I am done making excuses.  we are at the nadir of our program...

We're "losers" because winning doesn't come first in the system. If you listen to Hoke, he talks about producing character young men first, followed by producing good students. I don't disagree with those things, but he really never talks about winning. If asked what the goal is, it's winning the Big Ten Championship. But the over arching theme isn't winning. It's not "We want to be a winning program," it's "we are the winningest program already," as if winning is a thing of the past. There doesn't seem to be much concern in keeping that going, at least as far as the the brand talking points go.

it's pretty clear the Hoke regime has run its course; at least it's clear to everyone save Brandon. i would think that with the talent we have - gotta give Brady his due as his staff can recruit - someone would jump at the chance to come here. our problem is one of coaching, not a lack/depth of talent. we've been able to convince 4 & 5 star kids to buy in on a regular basis, given our shitty record. we just can't develop the talent we have. thinking outside of the box is paramount for this program. all the names mentioned in other threads to come here will probably never happen. but someone had the smarts to find and hire the Kevin Sumlins and Chris Petersons when they were not "made" men. why in hell can't we? also, the phrase "Michigan Man" must never be spoken again. we got one and look where we're at.....

In the presser Hoke mentioned Ryan and Miller has having good games. I am remembering Ryan was about average and Miller was not very good. Am I missing something?
