But they didn't unravel, thankfully. I think that Butt catch that should have been intercepted was the real turning point. Hey, sometimes you can make a bad pass or bad play into something good. What a novel concept! Before that the team felt like if something bad could happen, it did, and thus played in a shell afraid to do pretty much anything. After that, they regained confidence and just played.

"It's not like Miami was doing much to scare Michigan...it was Michigan doing it to itself."

I don't get when people think Michigan making some serious mistakes isn't a problem. Just a problem with turning the ball over too much. No big deal. Turnover margin isn't relevant to a team's chances to win.

he seems tentative or maybe too much in his head. I don't know, maybe it's PTSD from getting the hell beat out of him last season. Then again, he gave me that feeling early last year. I see a lot of old Michigan in this offense...if they can run the ball they will succeed.

Morris looked ready. Heitzman did not. Green has vision. Our receivers, excepting Butt, did not display vision or hands or something. The lines struggled at times. Wile appeared to be more confident. Hagerup got the fuzzies. Funchess will not return for next week.

The game with Utah should be close but winnable. We're not a good Michigan team at this juncture but we should improve.

Brady used headphones, I swear.

Michigan won. Thank God. Beat utah.

If Michigan plays like that on offense like they did the first half in any game the rest of the year....... /doom

Thank God they eventually put it together.

Nice to see Darboh finally get out there and catch some balls. Neat to see Da'Mario get a catch.

I love me some Norfleet.

We stormed out of the gates and everyone was fine. Face a little adversity and the fan base loses their head. I'm glad we got pressured because the defense kept us in the game. Wasn't that what we said would happen while the offense founds its way? Good win.

The O line is improving game to game.  In the second half, they were really opening some holes, and Green was hitting them for nice gains.

Pass blocking is improving, but Braden is a sieve.

Gardner's performance, like any quarterback, depends to a great extent on the pass blocking.

When Michigan drives ended in punts today, it was because they did not pound the rock.

Too much passing, with poor pass blocking, meant doom.

I was at the game so I got to see a lot of routes that TV crops out. Canteen was far and away or best looking receiver. You could tell him from the others by his quickness and speed without having to look at his number. Unfortunately, Gardner didn't seem to look his way but he'll be a key piece later in the season.

Gardner not seeing the whole field has seemed to be a recurring problem.  He just doesn't see open receivers on a regular basis.  I know--easy for me to say from my couch when he is under pressure so often.  I very much doubt things would be better with Shane.  But I do think the offense would look much better if Gardner's field vision was better.  (And if the line blocked better and if the receivers ran better routes and...)

Well, assuming we don't fire everyone this year, Nuss's record as a QB coach is pretty bulletproof, and he was one before being an OC so he's not just a QB coach by default. Two years under Nuss should see Shane reach his potential, which is pretty high. I mean, he's probably not going to be NFL Tom Brady, no college QB is, but I don't see any reason to doubt that he'll at least be able to read a progression.

Greens vision was better but I think he needs to focus on being a one cut, no non-sense, north-south runner. A couple times he tried some razzle dazzle type jukes and just looked silly. It's almost like he is top heavy or something.

May need to resign to a Devin giveth and taketh away type of year. I think he may cost us a close game this season. I think he should run more (by design) to offset his throwing mistakes and open more space for the receivers. Liked that we saw a read option calls even though it was with Shane. I expect their is plenty of plays and formations saved up BIG 10 play, maybe even Utah.

Speaking of Shane. Future looks bright. Looked accurate, throws a pretty ball and plays with confidence. Wish we had a true deep threat to complement his big arm.

Gardner's passing performance has everything to do with how well his line blocks for him.

He needs more time.

The line is improving, but they are not "there" yet.

They are doing better with run blocking (zone blocking) than pass blocking.

Ben Braden had a bad day.

One might have expected a far more lopsided game against a team with 18 straight losses.

Any of the truly elite teams would have been up by 35+ points by halftime, with or without turnovers.

There is a huge difference between Miami and Utah. I fear the fear factor next week.

I haven't ever called for Morris to get more time in games, unless they are blowouts...but after seeing those two throws he made and that play with his legs...I wouldn't mind seeing him on the field a little more when Devin goes into his mental midget mode. Just give him some time to sit down and reset. We have already burned his RS again this year...I do not see why this is not an option the coaches look to? Maybe they do not want to start a QB controversy if Shane comes in and sets the world on fire, if so that is extremely lame sauce.

Morris gives Nussmeier the flexibility to put Gardner on a shorter leash from now on when his throws are consistently bad, he gets turnover prone , etc . Take him out, settle him down and coach him up.

I like Devin, but despite all our issues I think we go as far as his play takes us. When he plays well we play well as a team and vice versa. It's been that way since he became starter and don't see it stopping now.

green looked better today, however, i still have last week stuck in my head. anyway, he is better than smith at this point, i like smith in the short yardage for sure. green needs to learn to run more physical though, just use a stiff arm, he could have stiff armed a few guys today  but instead just went down.

I thought shane looked good in some limited snaps, i'm still not sold on gardner being the qb, i don't know if shane could do it, but gardner just looks like damaged goods at times. he just looks hesitant and his mechanics like others have said look sooooo shaky, honestly, i think he is going to struggle big time against B1G teams. He definitely needs a healthy funchess.

ben braden looks pretty raw, that is all...not sure if glasgow can play there and kalis at guard, but braden didn't look too solid today.

If peppers gets healthy, id still love to see him get in a few offensive series.

finally, i think nuss and the staff are saving a ton of stuff for state, i think they realize they will need a lot of different looks in a few weeks.

one final thought, and its common sense, if we don't stop turning the ball over, we won't win more than 6.

I don't know why people keep saying this. Nuss is not saving things at this point when he was waxed by ND. I'm sure he will add things to the playbook like he does for most opponents but it's not like Michigan is hiding some secret effective playbook.

We have seen zero screens, of the halfback variety, no reverses, very few cutbacks, he also has not thrown the ball deep much at all. Just watch...couldn't run shit at ND because there were so many TO's. To hell with notre dame, state is the biggest game in hoke's tenure.

something right away, make a statement that last week as an abberation.  Nope.  This offensive team is going to struggle all season.  Against the worst MAC there is, the only scored 17 points in the first half.

Gradner is not really improving.

I thought Morris looked very sharp when he was out there.  Green ran hard once he seemd to get pissed that the team wasn't destroying Miami.  From that point on, he ran very hard and actually brpoke a few tackles.

We're going to need a healthy Funchess to beat Utah and all the teams in the B1G.

I'm glad we've seen some level of improvement from the OL. Last year's line was the worst in school history, so there simply was no way that it was going to be good at the start of the year this year. As long as we improve every week, this team might end up being stout by the end of the season.
