This will be the snowflake thread for your collective thoughts on the offense and the offensive playcalling.
don't we all
WTF just happened
This just happened
Awesome. So I wasn't in an alternate universe the past hour, then.
My favorite is Dileo's running knee-slide to get into holding position
The SB Nation person titled the GIF, "Michigan holder is safe."
I wonder now if Northwestern had too many men on the field for that last play and it just got missed. You can see them waving players off the field right before the ball is snapped. Moot point but would've been a lot different if Gibbons had missed
And water too!
. . . And blankets!!!
but changes need to be made on offense. The O looks surprisingly good in OT and Green was a monster. But basically 6 points in regulation against a bad Northwestern team is...UNACCEPTABLE
I agree we need to score more points.... But if we had basicly scored 6 points in regulation we would have lost.
He must not be giving the offense credit for the FG on the drive that started at the NW 11 yard line. I can't blame him - the offense didn't exactly earn that field position.
Yeah... Borges still has to go.
I hope they don't see this as a reason to keep Borges.
Big props to Devin for hanging tough
For all the issues with the offensive playcalling being able to get that FG off at the end of regualtion has a lot to do with the coaches. And what an awesome play by Dileo and Gibbons stone cold again.
If Gibbons was stone cold at Penn State, we'd be 8-2 right now.
and if penises and nuts were pure-breeds and mutts, 1/2 of us would be dog owners.
Getting that FG just shows me that Hoke is getting it done. Poorly coached teams don't execute like that.
Now, imagine for a moment that you've got a team that can execute like that, but flops around like a pack of slovenly idiots on normal offensive plays. I think the blame there falls squarely on the guy responsible for coordinating these well trained athletes into a capable pack.
In conclusion: FIRE BORGES!
Why did NW stop sending pressure?? Thanks, I guess.
And why did they only run their Green (Treyvon?) a handful of times? I can't remember a single run of his less than 5 yds, he seems much more talented than Trumpy. If I was a NW fan (do these exist?) I'd be pissed at the coaches, they gave the game away.
probably because of all the delayed hand offs we had on the fake screen passes.. We continually gashed them for 7 or 8 yards every time we did it..
Good point. And so a point to Borges for dialing those up, they were working well. Still seemed odd they more or less completely abandoned the blitzes/pressure.
to be balanced, if you're giving Borges points for those screens, you'll have to subtract points for... whatever it was that only worked for 9 points in regulation.
Oh trust me, it's all noted. The delayed handoffs were a small blip on the radar, so to speak.
The offense scored nine points in four quarters against 0-5 in the Big Ten Northwestern. Due to the win though, Borges apologists will be out in force this week proclaiming the greatness of their dear leader.
proclaiming the greatness of their dear leader.
If your referring to Space Coyote and others that's not at all what they're doing.
yeah, I think we know by now. Though he's still wrong, he's doing it very respectfully, if not somewhat stubbornly.
Dear leader, I don't know anyone who has been that crazy.
Nice win, but O coaching staff still has to go. Pitifull for 4 qtrs...
going back to the house. The football gods were with us today.
Is it sad that a fg against nw is in my top five moments of the season? How many quarters has it been since the offense has score a td in regulation, 12?
That FG play would be a top play for any team. And Georgia just made one of the biggest gaffs off all time.
Gardner through a TD pass last week against Nebraska too, and I'm pretty sure it was during regulation.
If Fitz was benched (being a senior and all), then I have hope that some coaching changes might happen after this season.
Fitz should have been benched years ago.
Years (plural) ago, he was our first 1,000 rusher in forever.
Denard ran for 1799 the year before(2010) Fitz ran for 1000 (2011), a year in which Denard also ran for over 1000 yards. Michigan failed to have a 1000 yard rusher in 2008 and 2009. Hart had over 1400 in 07, and the team had over 2600 in 2009. So, we went 2 years without one then, and its been 2 years since we've had one now. In short, Fitz has been the same for years.....the difference is the line he played behind in 2010 was better and the focus was on Denard. He has always been slow to the hole, slow through the hole, dances in the hole, and goes down easily. He doesn't get his knees up and so a swipe of the shoestring trips him up. I suppose you could say there was no one else, but then we would have to throw that back at RRs recruiting/retention failures.
Regarding Fritz you have to go a little deeper to understand why his performance and numbers are what they are this year. And the primary reason is that he is simply not the type of back that can succeed in this offense, behind this line, and with this blocking scheme.
If Fritz can be productive at all, he can only be in a spread offense with another running threat (Denard) on the field with him. He needs open spaces to be effective considering the type of running back he is. He is not and never was a running back that can be effective running in a crease, we have seen it repeatedly this season and throughout his career. He goes down almost on the spot on first contact at the point of attack. The big difference in the running game yesterday was simply our RBs hitting the line hard and grinding out 3-4 and sometimes 7 yards when there was not much there. Getting positive yards on first down goes a long way in sustaining drives, too often this year Fritz was setting us up at first and 10 and first in 12.
It is another failure in coaching that they didn’t recognize that Fritz running style was detrimental, and he is better suited as a third down back in this offense.
Wrong. It was the right move to bench him.
no more PT for you. We beat a winless big ten team in OT. The offense still sucks balls.
I still bet he has NFL career that makes us all realize it was coaching and scheme that held him down.
no chance. I love the kid and hope he makes it in the league, but NFL teams can't risk their QBs, and he's not good enough to overcome the run tip he'd be presenting
Not quick enough and not big enough. he won't sniff the NFL
Apparently 12 percent of the people in that poll are Ohio fans.
In hindsight Fitz should've been benched for Green a long time ago.
This 100%. Love Fitz but he just doesn't have it anymore. I have been saying bench Fitz for weeks
I have to believe DG ran the wrong way after the fake handoff. If he peels back and runs to the long side of the field, he has a better chance to score.
OT shows that we can be a good enough offense once the opposing defense is tired. Allowed Green to pound away more consistently.
Anything to keep that man down wow some of you are amazing
And should have been ballgame. When it's a clutch time like that, your coaches need to give you a play you can succeed with.
Borges called a decent game today. He went away from the run too much though, IMO, and the bootlegs need to stop. Devin is still clearly not fully in the game mentally and we had a few key drops that stalled drives.
