The Snowflake Thread: Dave Brandon

Submitted by htownwolverine on
Many of us, myself included, think Dave has a lot of blame in this debacle of a coaching staff. Is he going to do what needs to be done if his coach won't at year end?
Am I off base?
Thoughts, suggestions?

I saw A LOT of people flowing out of the stadium at halftime.  Those butts won't be in seats much longer if this doesn't get rectified.  2014 schedule is crap and AD is asking for PSD for the majority of the seats.

Speaking of PSD - I appreciated getting the email from the AD on Tuesday asking for my 2014 PSD payment.  The sting had not yet worn off from the MSU game and the AD is already asking for next years money.  All hail the all-mighty dollar!

After taking over a 1 win (IIRC) Stanford team void of talent......and beating USC when they were f'n USC and he coached a Stanford team that, again, won a single game the year before.

Jim ASKED for the QB coach job when Carr turned him down for a bust QB recruit named Scott. He was an ok recruiter and QB coach but where is he now?

Then, he merely asked for an interview in 2007 and was told no over the phone (yes, over the phone was told "not interested").

There is a reason Jim talks so highly of Bo but not so much the University anymore. He wasn't coming here as he was NFL bound but he wouldn't have come here out of spite had he stayed in college, IMO.

Jim Harbaugh shot himself in the foot by coming out publicly during the summer of 2007 on academic standards applied to Michigan football players. He accused Michigan staff of steering players towards "soft" curriculum.

Mike Hart gave one response at the time, saying "I don't know if maybe he wants to coach here and he's mad because he didn't get a job? He's not a Michigan man. I wish he'd never played here."

Carr went after him, as did former players including Jamie Morris.

People who lament the failure to interview or hire Harbaugh following the 2007 season forget that all that transpired.

I hope the stadium is half full against that team.  Brandon has shit all over the traditional atmosphere while hiring a coach who fields a team with an offense that might be average 15 years ago.

Optimal line for Brandon to take:

Unless Hoke comes to him first this week, tell Hoke that Borges and Funk are gone come January and begin a search for stud replacements he will pay top dollar to.

This week, have Hoke announce to the media that "Borges is retiring end of season" to lessen the blow and give recruits hope for improvement come next year.

Hire the best OC he can find.  Anything, even a start from scratch with a spread with Threet/Sheridan at QB is better than this disaster.  But if he can, find a good manball OC to keep pieces in place.

Secretly begin deliberating Brady Hoke's replacement come January, 2015 after next year's disastrous season, potentially elevating the new OC to HC or hiring an Urbz level coach like Narduzzi.

RR's players quit on him.  A coach who loses his players can't stay around.  He also wasn't recruiting well by that point.

He found a soft landing at Arizona and it's worked out for him so far, but it wasn't going to here.  (BTW, I wouldn't exactly call them the "Indiana of the Pac-12" - they've had some good teams over the years.)

So yes, they're Indiana. Rich Rod's players quit because it was apparent that he wasn't going to get a 4th year. Hoke has been given every single advantage that Rich Rod was denied, especially when it comes to contracts and money for assistants. Arizona probably isn't going to go to the Rose Bowl. But, it's December and they still control their destiny.

It's amazing to me to see people who lambasted Rich Rod for his defense come to defend Brady Hoke's offense. As of right now it looks like Hoke's success has come from Denard making plays in 2011 and Mattison making the defense decent against a weak schedule. So...basically what Rich Rod with Casteel most likely would have been.

Hoke will give him the failing coach death chant "We are young and inexperienced and we will be better in the future." DB will sign on because to let go of Hoke would be to acknowledge he made a mistake and misspoke recently saying Hoke is the right man for the job.

We are stuck with at least two more years of mediocrity. I cannot believe Michigan is paying Hoke the 8th highest salary among college football coaches. What a rip off.

Come on man... DB hired a Michigan Man. A cheerleader that gets it. Not even that Michigan is a lauging stock, will be enough for changes to be made. DB is not going to fire his boy. There is no debate. DB will die on that hill. So... accept this, and endure it. Michigan is now the Exxon Valdez of college football.

Well played.  Hoke is in way over his head and is nothing but a cheerleader on the sidelines during games.  He is Michigan's Gerry Faust, and we're stuck with him for at least one more season, with the destruction in Columbus next November hopefully being the final pain to cause the gain that will be his firing.

Can't wait for the youth and "we're still 6-3" apologists to pull out the pom-poms this week.
