I feel like because The Game is such a huge game that Borges held stuff back and didn't want to tip his hand so to say for most of the season. Obviously there's a major problem with that and I don't understand why he would do that but I have that feeling

This is a ridiculous comment. Too many wasted downs? That was an outstanding game offensively. Every team in every game has a few bad/nothing plays. And Borges gets dinged because we lost despite the outstanding offensive performance?

I'm fine with still wanting a new OC, but this is stupid. Just give him credit for today. Plus, for all of the "Where was this before?" stuff, while I'm obviously disappointed with this year's offense, it's nice to see something saved for OSU. Borges has called two brilliant games against OSU and one terrible one (when he showed his whole hand in a blowout win against Iowa). At least it looked like the offense realized we were playing a rival and need to get up for this.

I am going to forgive you for being ignorant of Michigan football. Now I will school you. Yes, wasted downs! When you run plays that are clearly read by the defense and have no chance of succeeding then you put your offense in a bind.

You can do the math if you want but I cannot EVER recall an offense that had numerous third and longs. The offense has been at a disadvantage all season.

In the red zone, we still ran the I-Form into a stacked box.

We spiked the ball when a play could have been ready. This didn't cost Michigan on the scoring drive but it gave away a down.

Look at Ohio State's offense, they continously ran plays that worked. We continously run plays that get stuffed. Thankfully their defense gave us an open field all day!

Shouldn't use the word Turd. It's a kids word.

Maybe you have several children. However, you made great arguments and won the comment battle btwn yourself and Ferguson. Next time call him Ferguson and leave the word out of it.

exactly.

I still want him gone.  I think he doesn't deserve to stay.  I have no faith in him.  I have no faith in his play calling or player development.

However, after this game, if he is not fired (I don't think he will be, probably), this game gives me a little hope that I might be wrong about him and that he might end up being great.

My biggest problem with Borges, with this game as an example, is that he is often TERRIBLE or GREAT.  No consistency.  I just don't get it.  I think it has a lot to do with his inability to alter game plans on the fly.

"Catch-22 for Borges. He has to explain why he didn’t do this all year."

He'll come up with some double-speak to justify.  But it's all BS.

He called this game as if he had nothing to lose.  It showed the potential this team's offense has had most of the season.  They play this kind of game and they beat Nebraska and Iowa.

Penn State in overtime was the worst play calling I have seen in my life!

All three of those games amount to a 10 win season and a better Big 10 record. All of those losses are on him.

This game changes nothing. All it did was keep Michigan from embarrassment. We still lost.

He waits until what is hopefully his last regular season game, to actually call a good game. Where the fuck was this offense all year! Other than one too many Gallon reverse calls, I liked every call and it was actually not obvious, like every call, in all the other games. Much like Lloyd waited until the last game of his career (Florida), to actually coach the team to their potential, instead of underperforming, Borges waits until now to actually call a good game. Fuck him, fire his ass now and don't even let him coach in our bowl game! We should have been 11-1 or 10-2 at worst this year (MSU would have beaten us regardless, they are IMO, the best team in the B1G this year.... Go Blue!

like it will not ruin my life.   The team played their hearts out;  none of us were on the field.  There will continue to be losses, maybe many more in the future.  You might want to get some perspective.

Yes. Where was this offense for all the other games this year? The most obvious calls, not to mention the most successful today, the screens were non-existent all season. I'm quite certain we threw as many today as we did all year combined.

First bad game by the Michigan defense all season. Well you can count the Indiana game as well. While the defensive performance obviously hurt, I don't think you see Mattison on the hot seat for a while. The defense has to turn in numerous poor performance that can be tied to Mattison.

The Big 10 is very weak- the offenses Mattison stopped were not that great and the defenses OSU rolled over were not that great also (IOW, OSU is not such an offensive powerhouse as many believe) UM's defense is a lot closer to the offense than most think. Borges isn't the greatest OC, maybe not even good- but Mattison is not doing that much better and today it showed. I could care less if Borges is fired or not (he will get a nice package) but the blind eye to Mattison's faults this season has been extreme. Mattison has not done that well this year and this teams defense is not that impressive. Time to be a little more fair.

Anyone who says Mattison should be fired is not using logic.

You have not seen the horrible field position and the points surrendered by the OFFENSE this season.

I am going to break down a couple of the losses for you.

Versus Penn State - Turnovers produced 4 turnovers, 390 yard of offense, 85 yard rushing. This is despite four overtimes. One turnover in overtime and one field goal missed practically GIFT WRAPPED this game to the offense. They proceeded to lose it for us.

Versus Michigan State - Our defense kept us in this game for three quarters despite getting NO help from the offense. We produced a turnover. Their offense has 394 yards of offense. Pretty stellar considering our best offensive drive after the defense produced its only turnover was -21 yards! This is NOT a typo.

Versus Nebraska - Our defense held Nebraska to 17 points. We forced them into two turnovers. Their offense managed only 273 yards. They punted the ball more than us.

Versus Iowa - The defense forced four turnovers. We converted one of those into a touchdown. Iowa had 400 yards of total offense despite having the ball the entire second half. Our offense punted five times and fumbled.

Versus Ohio -  The defense produced two turnovers. We had no answer for the Hyde/Miller connection.

Recap: In every one of our losses our defense WON the turnover battle for us. With the exception of the Ohio State game, they held on for nearly the entire game despite playing for the second half. Indiana is the only win where the offense outplayed the defense. Ohio State is the only loss where the offense outplayed our defense.

The offense has hung our defense out to drive for far too many games this year only to have the defense hold up to the bitter end. There is NO WAY you can blame the defense for a five loss season.

Obviously our defensive game plan was garbage for that game.

The Penn State game was called well enough to win.

The only beef you and the poster above seems to have is the final drives of game where our defenses had take the field for practically the entire SECOND HALF. Even the best trained athletes will struggle to keep up after rigorous activity for 30 minutes.

I would have liked to see their defense hold up in all those situations and maybe the prevent needs to be improved upon but in all those games if the offense sustains drives then the defense will be able to actually catch their breath.

Plus Wile's extra points were barely going through and he missed the TOed field goal by a mile.  Can't go into overtime without a kicker.  I like the call  to go for two, but didn't like the actual playcall.  Three receivers one side of the field?  Would've liked to see them get Gardner moving (if he wasn't too banged up).

To everyone who had given up on these kids and spewed vitiriol about how they were embarrassed to be a U of M fan...

...we'll welcome you back. There is always room for fairweather fans.

Great game. Congratulations to the team.

Great job by the coaches. Great exectution by the players. 3 yards shy against an undefeated team in the greatest rivalry in college football.

I'm looking forward to the bowl game and to next season.

Go Blue!
