Submitted by LSAClassOf2000 on

This will be this evening's thread to discuss issues with the coaching and any issues you may have with the staff in general.

Wow is all I have to say. Funk and Borges need to be fired, and it needs to be done by Dave Brandon, because there is no way Hoke is going to do the deed. Just dissapointing at the way Borges planned with two weeks, and Funk is continiously showing why he doesn't' belong in Division 1 football.

I would like Hoke and this staff gone. However, that's not going to happen. DB will not fire his Michigan man, and Hoke isn't going to dump anybody. Right now the excuse is Youth.. next year there will be another one. Michigan... another name for mediocrity.

I have to admit though.. I have a certain morbid fascination, in how long DB is going to stretch this thing out. How long will it take him to admit, that hiring Hoke was a mistake.

but again, this was supposed to be the game wherein I ate my hat or whatever and I stopped my stupid heart from wanting Hoke and Company gone, but no.

Today happened. Today in all its gross, predictable shittiness happened.

And it's sad. I haven't had confidence in like 10 years! in m football.

I've said this before, in other threads, but it needs repeating.

At least with RR I hoped and believed in some real or unreal future ( a blitzkrieg o, a fast mutable d) something we could possibly become.

And right now. I'm trying very hard to project what we're supposedly shooting for? Big Ten Championships? National Championships? What are we trying to become with Hoke? A man brawl team? The north's alabama?

That shit is so boring. And we don't recruit at that level anyway.Right now, our future is an obscure, dark thing, a shadow of a film clip from a bygone time, recognizable only to those types who write "bo would be rolling in his grave if....."

I want to be inventive. Smart. Creative. Exciting.

I want a Brad Stevens esque hire up in this mother. Truly I don't give a flying fuck about M traditions and all that. The 80s and 70s were fucking forever ago. Three yards and a cloud of dust isn't how the game is played anymore.

You either need freaks (Cam Newton and Fairley, Jameis Winston), greasy palms, or schemes.

We have none.

Personally, I want schemes. I want coaches. New, adaptable, quick thinking people.

No - the point is that we reportedly sent feelers to Petersen and he wasn't interested.  Every year, he's on the top of everyone's list and he always says no.

You have illustrated what most people on here are feeling. At least Coach Rodriguez gave us something to believe in. And, boy, did we want to believe. But in reality, it was an unmitigated disaster in every way. This shit sucks right now, but this program not fueled by belief. Its fueled by wins. I'll take it, bumps and all.

What other reaction do you want? 2 weeks to prepare, and that's the best you can do? Please tell me what players have gotten better under this staff? Also, please don't use the excuse of youth... that has run it's course.

Every single player has gotten better. All of these freshmen could go back to their respective high schools and just crush the competition. Unfortunately, their job isn't to be good in high school. They have to be good here. You could argue that the players haven't gotten as good as you'd like them to be, but your comment was stupid. Every single guy on the team has gotten better.

The offensive line play has shown no improvement. That wouldn't be happening if every single player had gotten better. The defensive performance has also not been better on a week by week basis, and I am having a hard time thinking of defensive players whose individual performance has gotten better on a week by week basis.

Well, I didn't say Bosch, Glasgow, and Kalis have gotten better than Barnum, Mealer, and Omameh. They have gotten better than the versions of themselves that existed last year. The problem is that 3 seniors graduated and were replaced by a sophomore, a freshman, and a true freshman. Lewan maybe hasn't gotten better, because he is good and might have plateaued. Schofield has gotten better, though. Again, the line has regressed, no doubt, but the players themselves have improved. It would be really good to have a couple of juniors on the roster. They would probably have improved from their sophomore selves and have been better than these guys.

Miller and Bryant have been in the program for three years, Mateus is a Junior and Grunderson is a senior. And they were are passed over by freshman or second year players. the only one that I give a pass to is Bryant cause he hasn't been healthy since he's been at Michigan.

I think you know this, but Mateus and Gunderson are walk-ons. They probably don't have the raw talent to hack it at this level. They are expected to be passed over by younger guys. Those guys should not be included in the discussion. Bryant has been hurt, and that is a shame, but he doesn't get a pass. No one does. I'd like them to be better. But because I've been in their shoes, I know not to EXPECT them to be better.

but Hoke and his staff should be put on notice there jobs are on the line. Any competent coach can bring in a staff and make better players with what we have. AND UNDERSTAND THIS; MSU IS ONLY ABOVE AVERAGE AMONG SECOND TIER TEAMS! If they played any of the top ten teams in the country they would get crushed.

This only points out how low the MIchigan program has become. Today, they got their asses whipped big time. After so many hits DG was afraid to run for a first down. After his interception, he wasn't hurrt. He needed to get out of their.

Bottom line is MSU BROKE OUR WILL. FWIW, this is what Nick Saban preaches to his players. Break their will. You witnessed it first hand today.

Mattison does a good job with the players he has.  You just can't expect the defense to be on the field this much.

We had a pretty good game plan and turned in pretty good results against that boring offense MSU runs for most of the game.  But when your Defense never leaves the field breakdowns are bound to happen.  Mattison stays, it is crazy to suggest he needs to go.

Mattison has a bevy of 4 star talent to work with.  I am sick of hearing about the cupboard on defense.  On offense I can at least say its an OL issue.  Mattison has two 4 star starting corners from 2011..... MSU stars a 2 star from 2011 and leaves him on an island.  Calhoun is a 3 star and is a star already.  Stop leaving Mattison blameless.  Is he an improvement over past 5 years? yes.  He is not perfect and is underachieving in some ways as well with all this 4 star talent lavished upon him.

True, Mattison isn't perfect but he is turning in good games on defense with a lot of youth and playing a lot of downs.

I think you judge Mattison and Hoke next year though Hoke gets the hot seat this year if he doesn't get rid of Funk when the season ends.

Some of you really need to chill out.  It's a football game.  Yes, this staff sucks.  That's what happens when you hire a MAC level coach.  But it's still just a game.

but the program asks me to pay for football tickets ($95 for ND and Ohio State), plus a seat license, plus $50 to park at pioneer, pay $4 for a bottle of absopure water in the stadium.  Ungodly prices for other concessions, purchase legacy jerseys, and so on and so forth.  John Bacon estimated that $500 is the average spent on a gameday with all the activities.  With that sort of request for a monetary outlay, I expect a better product.  And we're not getting it when we lose 5 out of 6 years to a program who spends 1/3 the amount of money on athletics as we do . . .
