The Snowflake Thread: Coaching

Submitted by LSAClassOf2000 on

This will be a snowflake thread for coaching, although we have several and I realize I am therefore contributing to the problem here. Oh well.

Speilman was right. We recruit great talent and then fail to develop it accordingly. We get consistently crushed by teams with lackluster recruiting because they actually develop their players.

...Michigan was his own first choice but his dad said that wasn't happening, he was going to OSU.

Spielman's actually one of the better announcers you could draw for a BigTen game...spent his entire adult playing career in the region and calls an honest game.  He was always smart as a player and that still comes across in the booth.  Definitely not a homer, either for his alma mater or his old conference.

Probably would make a good coach, if he were so inclined...

If I didn't know anyone's identity on the team, and had to guess which person on the sideline was the head coach, I would not pick Hoke. He looks like an enthusiastic fan who happened to have good enough connections to be allowed to stand on the sidelines.

after the final gun,  the conversation lasted longer than usual, as Hoke looked emotional, like someone knowing their fate was sealed.  Final goodbyes, in other words.

(at least I can hope)

MGrow, I responded to your post with an LOL. Good work. It would be very "Brandon" for Michigan to wind up with a mediocre "Michigan Man." I'm sure the clowns that supported Hoke and pi$$ed all over RichRod from day one would approve. Here's another candidate:

He had ... something to do with Tom Brady!!! It would work, wouldn't it? :)

There is no defending any part of this staff from top to bottom. Even the WRs were horrid today.  And that was the one position coach I believed in.

just with head coaching decisions:

No timeouts when state had the ball before the half and lost a possession.

Then uses 2 timeouts for disorganization early in the second half.

Then punts on 4th and 3 down 25 with 9 minutes left to seal the game.

Then goes for 2 and an onside kick when the game is over.
