We will need this in mass quantities this offseason. A top 10 recruiting class would make large strides for us in a vital 3 months here. We definitely need to get some big playmakers in on both D and an outside receiver.

That's a bit harsh, don't you think, MichFan? Tom beaver has said that he thinks all of this losing could ,and probably already has, affected recruiting somewhat. To what extent is what we won't know until signing day.

Do you seriously think that makes some huge difference in recruiting? Notre Dame has had top 5 classes with terrible years just recently. Bama self destructed last year and were .500 yet got the top recruiting class. In the end Michigan is a premium program and offers a chance to both play early and turn a program around and back to glory. Thats an attractive offer, especially when schools like USC have 4 star kids who don't see the field in a career due to being buried on a depth chart.

That's a bad comparison, MfP. Firts off, ND has an "in" to alot of the Catholic high scools around the country. Second, and most important, Charlie Weis has Super Bowl rings which speak very loudly to recruits. As silly as it seems to us, many recruits think that he knows what it takes to get them to the NFL. If ND continues to fluctuate between medicore and bad, then that will probably change, eventually.

Regardless of what individuals think... Rivals has us ranked the #8 recruiting class for 2009. So saying with any certainty that it's "not gonna happen" is pure guesswork and negativity. And remember, most people think Campbell will re-commit to Michigan, so that would be another 5-star to solidify that ranking.

seriously, who the fuck gives a shit about recruiting. any team can bring in all the 5* talent in the country but if they don't develop their players it won't mean anything. stop looking too much into the rankings of players.

Most analysts say that the payoff/penalty from an unusually good or bad year comes more in the next year's recruiting class. This year's seniors mostly narrowed down their lists before the season started, so it shouldn't really matter. Theoretically, it's next year that we should worry more. But given the strong start we are off to for 2010, we should be fine.

After 2 2-win seasons at Illinois, Ron Zook pulled consecutive top 15 classes. After a one win season, Tim Brewster brought in Minnesota's best class ever. If a coach is a good recruiter, it seems they can recruit regardless of results.
